Howdy howdy howdy, everyone! This is a painting blog, and my intent with it is simple: get better at painting! i've recently got back into the hobby with the kill team box set, but that's not the first thing i'm going to try to paint. my first goal is to repaint the space marines i got back in 2007ish from some other box set! do you want to see how i painted them back then? here:
they... they have a bit of charm, right?!
ok, so the first step is going to be getting the old paint off, and then getting my new paint scheme on. The new one is based around blue, light blue, and silver, and is a bit more... unified. i'll probably also put the chapter i'm making up and it's history here, just for the fun of it.
watch this space if you want to, but you don't have to!

Everyone's first paint jobs looks like that, so you're in good company.
What will you be using to strip them? Are you planning on attempting the same paint scheme or something new.
Looking forward to see your some new stuff.

I'm planning on using that simple green stuff to strip them, it seems to be the one a lot of people reccomend, and is available in my area i hope.
The new scheme is going to be a darker blue on the majority, light blue outlined by silver on the pauldrons and helmets.
I'm still learning a lot but i hope the new paint job will look a lot cleaner
Thanks for the comment!

Hm, well I usually use black. What would you think would be best? i'm open to learning to try anything
but, progress! i'm getting the old ones stripped down of paint pretty well, which makes me happy because i haven't done that too much. And I got one of the new guys painted in a very basic test of my color scheme. very, very basic, mind you. and the picture isn't the best. But here they are!
the darker blue isn't as thick as it looks in this picture, i swear.

Liking the new scheme. Reminds me of Alpha Legion.

Thanks! The cleaning went surprisingly well, but i had to realize just how badly i messed these guys up when I first got them. The mold lines are huge, and there are gouges in the pauldrons where I think I must have just twisted them out of the sprues or some such. Ah well. Fixing is underway.
In the meantime, I got a few more of the new guys started:
Progress is progressing, still a lot to do though.
would it be acceptable for space marines to be based on an ocean world?

I am taking a break from painting, and so i did some quick and choppy... converting? i guess? instead.
Here is a space marine scout with a dog style companion:
Just a rough attempt, but i think it's ok! The big problem? the hand that's supposed to be petting the dog's ear... i don't think that's a human hand. it was in a bag of bits i got, so i'm not sure where it's from.
Still, i am mostly happy with how it looks like he's looking down and reaching down to scratch the dog thing. That was my goal.

Scout with dog is looking good.
As per your question, I see no reason why a SM chapter couldn't be based on an ocean world.

Thanks, Theophony! And yes, it just might be.
but for now i got to move away from the space marines. i need a break from those guys. enter... this guy!
Just a plaguebearer, but I gave him a little shield thing. i'm pretty happy, though as always there's still work to be done on him. got to get the drybrushing better on that shield hand, which i only just saw in the picture here.

Well your Marines are coming along.
The camera never lies and often exposes little things that need tweaking. I discover issues in my PLOGs all the time.

still some tweaking to do on the hands, but i hope you can see that he is instructing his war otter on the finer points of bug hunting.

Nice to see you back at it. Btw I'm not sure about the otters, but the dogs are definitely from Mantic and come with thier fantasy dwarf command sprues if you need more. Their elf range also had a war-cat if I remember. You could probably ebay them cheap from a bitz seller online.

Thanks, it's good to know the source! And it's good to know about war cats. Because i did not know about them until now but i know that i must have them, just from the name.
I haven't got anything new done just yet, because my sister is visiting and we've been spending most of our time snowshoeing and baking, but i did just get a new bag of random bits that included some giant rats. I can use those for sure.

Sadly, they just aren't that big! More like unusually large rats than giant ones really. rodents of unusual sizes, if you will.
also i can't find where i put them.
No real progress because i've been sick with some sort of nasty cold style thing, but here is the animals i have, minus the rats:
Three dogs! Five frogs! Two otters! And a monkey.
Many ideas i have, just gotta wait until i stop hacking up my lungs every five minutes.

Frogs. Nah. Those must be battle-toads. And the monkey is too cool of a pet for the rank and file. Give him to Captain or Chaptermaster...

Only mild disappointment that there's no cat...
Totally agree with Brush Commando that the monkey has to be allocated to a Captain / Chapter Master.

Yes, i think you're both right. He's far too grand a monkey for anyone else. Also, yes, battletoads! i miss the most obvious of things.
So... the dogs are from mantic and are dwarven throwing dogs, so... I thought i would try that. Making that. Except being held by a scout of course.
it's... well...
I tried! That's the important thing. i still got a nasty cold.
I need to repaint that guy though, why didn't i strip the paint on him dang. Also the arm i found in my bits bag is pretty different, anyone know where it's from?

This is awesome man! I like pets for marines.
With your throwing dog scout, there's a scout arm that exxtends way out from the body (i think it's a pistol, scoped aiming or something...) anywho you could use that to make him hammer throw the pooch?? Just a thought.
Also if you need more throwing dogs I have quite a few

Perhaps get hold of a Blood Bowl throwing army and replace the ball with the Dog?
That would be some serious throwing arm action!

Then suddenly I saw it. With only a slight churning to mark its rise to the surface, the thing slid into view above the dark waters. Vast, Polyphemus-like, and loathsome, it darted like a stupendous monster of nightmares to the monolith, about which it flung its gigantic scaly arms, the while it bowed its hideous head and gave vent to certain measured sounds. I think I went mad then.
