Pretty much all in the title here. I've got an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor in Power Armour and want to kit him out for combat, and I only have the points to take one of either a Power Weapon (probably sword for AP3 at Initiative) or a Venom Talon (2+ Poison). I know the best answer is 'it's situational and depends on your opponent' but for a TAC list which do you think would be most effective?

Thanks for reading.

this will probably also depend on the rest of the unit and what you would like to kill in combat.

Thanks for the response! I'm planning to put him in a big unit of Tempestus Scions with Flamers, this squad is designed to be my close-combat 'optimised' squad focuses for anti-infantry. I want to use the inquisitor to kill characters and sergeants at I4.

Power Swords are the weakest power weapons. Have you considered a Power Maul instead? +2 S and AP:4 at initiative. Most Hoards are things with a 4+ armor anyways.

Xenos can't take power mauls, axes or fists if I remember right.

OP, are you taking RAD grenades?

As written no Inquisitors are allowed power axes, mauls, or fists (or force staves/axes, for that matter).

I'd say go for rad grenades and a power sword, it'll be more useful as a force multiplier for the squad and it lets you threaten things you would otherwise have a harder time with.

Now that I look, i dont even see anywhere the Inquisitors are allowed in the Inquisitorial Armory (but acolytes are). Null rod has a power sword profile, and Witchbane for the price of a (SM) powerfist.

Thats what i usually go with. Or a Daemon Blade with lucky rolls

I don't really think Xenos Inqs are all that good as direct combat fighters but are better used as a support unit. Throw the Inq as a lvl 1 Psyker (comes with force sword) and take Rad + Psychotroke grenades to debuff/confuse the gak out of the enemy. Inqs are mere humans and don't really have a ton of attacks so its not like they can become killing machines. If they had Biomancy then you might be cooking with gas but they can't so they tend to be better equipped for non heavy lifting roles.

A Malleus Inq can take Daemon Blades or Nemesis Daemon Hammer. Daemon Blades are a real gamble but can give some nice bonuses that work both in our out of combat. The Hammer is at S6, AP2 which is nice. Can always take Terminator armor which is fun which comes with a hammer as well.

My book says Malleus and Hereticus can both take Fists, but Hereticus has Thunder Hammers too and Malleus has Daemon Hammers.

What you should do is make him a ML1 Psyker. It costs 30 points, but includes a Force Sword for absolutely free, so if you already plan on getting a Power Sword then it's basically a 15 point Psyker upgrade.

Well your inquisitor is 48 points. I'd suggest finding a way to get another 15 points and run solomon lok. Xeno Inquisitor with 2+/5++ and him and his unit when 3" from any objective gain FnP. Plus a master crafted power sword at I5 with 5 attacks and WS 5. Plus a servo skull and a S5 bolt pistol for giggles. Plus an attached warband if you ever would like to do so. For a melee xeno inquisitor, he's a steal point wise.

Only the heaviest of metals.
