How vital are legion specific units to your list and what units do you prefer? As I see it, WB will often make use of Gal Vorbak and rarely Ashen Circles or Mhara Gals. IW will often use both Havocs and Siege terminators. For SW and TS Grey Slayers and Sekhmet respectively seem to overshadow the rest, but with UM you can take all 3 with great effect. But IF might be better of using regular units. What do you think of your special units - how important are they to your list?

I use inductii squads regularly but I am yet to own any red butchers (I plan on getting some at some point) and will probably never use rampagers.

My Imperial Fists near as damnit always run with a squad of Templar Brethren in a Land Raider, normally with Pollux as well. Phalanx Warders I've used once or twice and they're fun, but not effective so they normally stay on the shelf.

Blood Angels have no Legion-Specific units, so no comment on that count

Raven Guard Dark Furies seem pretty good. Unfortunately Mor Deythan with snipers are ineffective and equipping them with anything else just doesn't sit right with me. Shame since their models are really cool. I may have to get some to use as scouts in a 40k army.

I don't use any of the DG ones. My list doesn't have space in HS for Grave Wardens and I would only field Deathshroud with a Spartan, which I don't have the points for.

I do use the Reaping ROW though.

In Death Guard I'm still experimenting with Deathshrouds/Grave Wardens, I got the models because they're awesome but haven't entirely worked out what to do with them. In Salamanders Firedrakes are a bit too expensive most of the time, but Pyroclasts are a staple (especially when Covenant of Fire makes them Troops).

I don't think Grey Slayers are fair to include in the argument as the Legion rules litterally make you take them.

True enough, but they still overshadow Deathsworn and Varagir.

TS: almost always have at least 2 or 3 Legion specific units (not counting HQs)

IF: I don't always use legion specific units, but I often include legion specific HQs, Upgrades, etc.

DG: I almost always include at least 10 Grave Warden and a few Death shroud. with my favourite list ( ~50 terminators + Morty) I include more of 'em both

For my Iron Warriors I commonly use Iron Havocs, Siege Tyrants, and Iron Circle Domitars in most of my lists. Often times a combination of each at the same time but in 3k games I usually have at least 1 unit of each.

AL: The termies I do quite often, the headhunters I tried and tried but couldnt ever use them in an efficient way, theyre just gak.

I use both havocs and siege tyrants for my IW's, and when my Iron Circle are built and painted, I'll use them too

Two- because Rule of Cool. Justarian Terminators because they are actually pretty good, and Reavers, because fluff says they are awesome, but Veteran's are actually better. However, Veterans are an Elites choice, and Reavers are a Fast Attack (!!) choice. The RoW's and sometimes special characters I take make both of them Troops choices, so...

I use two Legion Specific units for my Sons of Horus: Justarian Terminators and Reaver Attack Squads.

I can't see myself not taking a unit of Sekhmet

I'll be trying to use Sekhmet, Castellax-Achae and the BoP option on vet squads in my TS list.

Not super keen on the blade boyz models and can get a very similar result with weaponmaster vets so they're out, I'm not super keen on the scouts either for their rules or the lack of models and as Nifty as the Osiron model is, I have neither the points nor the slots to to mention the penalties to deal with for taking a non IC HQ model thats already overcosted.

I use three, but rarely all three on the same game, for my Word Bearers army: High Chaplain Erebus (converted from HH boxset Chaplain model), Gal Vorbak (converted from DV Chosen), and Ashen Circle (converted from Chaos Raptors)

One of these days I'm going to convert the DV Dread into a Mhara Ghal Dreadnought, as well.

I only use Red Butchers. Rampagers are just bad. But even if I put that aside, I'm usually already heavily invested in PA infantry in troops slots and don't need more. *shrug* It'll be interesting to see if WE get a new special unit or major revisions to existing ones in the books to come, since the legion is clearly "evolving" and will continue to evolve right up to Terra.

Rampagers only need a price cut to become viable, IMO. Falax blades are potentially very good, but the platform costs too much.

I use everything but Fulmentarus with my Ultramarines. Rarely ever use unique units with Emperors Children-,just not worth their points.

Kakophoni are the antithesis of how i like to play (they sit still) while the Palentines tend to die before accomplishing anything

I have some hopes for the Phoenix Spears, but haven't tested them yet

I'll be using a unit of Fulmentarii, if not just magnetised, and definitely getting my hands on Invictarii. I'll probably make some Locutarus eventually, but not just yet.

In my very limited experience, (2 games) I used the named UM dreadnought. He was kinda fun.

A lot of the UM special units look nice, but crazy expensive.

I use both Immortals and Gorgons for my IH. Throw them in transports (LRs and a Spartan respectively) and push forward into the enemy deployment! Of course, I'm using the ROW that lets me take Immortals as troops, so that helps.

TS: - My first ten Sekhmets have been made from the 40k Scarab Occult termies. I am pleased with how they turned out and that is the first and foremost reason I will be using them.

I want 10 Caraphractii armoured ones once the upgrade kit lands. This will give me a big powerbase to run Guard of the Crimson King.

I want one full unit of Ammitara, Khenetai with an Ofder of the Jackal Land Raider Phobos, and a wall of Castellax-Achea once their respective kits land. They may not be the most effective but to me they are what define my force and make them look special.
