Just curious on seeing who likes watching what. Personally, I love watching Khorne Daemonkin or Harlequins. Something about the flavor and the paint schemes really catch my eye. Seeing a well done checkered pants and cloak scheme gets my George Takei "OH MY" voice coming out Fluff is pretty cool but having a slaughter cult batrep from Khorne is pretty neat. Blood for the blood god!

Anyone else got some favorites? Mention as many as you like.

40K when I played it.
AoS now.

I typically prefer to watch whatever I'm playing (also whatever my wife plays).

Generally anything where movement and tactics can determine a victor. Ironjawz actually has very tactical decisions with their destruction move. Eldar/Dark Eldar had plenty of tactical options for grabbing obj's.

Either game though, I found shooting heavy armies friggin boring to watch and play against. (Hence why I'm not into 40K at the moment).

Personally, I love reading Batreps, can't really stand watching them.

Thirding reading. A well written battle report with high quality pictures is great.

The problem with a video battle report is it takes as long as the game (obviously). I've got better ways to spend 2+ hours than watch a video of people playing a tabletop game.

Love watching miniwargaming. 40k, HH and sometimes AoS. But I can watch them for hours and hours. Sorta like watching a football game.

I also prefer reading reports, as I can't stand people waffling and smacking their gobs in videos.

As for the game, if it's full of pictures and a good write up it doesn't really matter to me.

I'm a huge fan of StrikingScorpion82's 40K video battle reports... I love his focus on narrative play, the armies/terrain on the channel are beautiful, and he really has a good sense of humor.

Definitely worth the watch if you have the time (I usually do it while modeling/painting)

all sorts, X-Wing, WMH, 40k Guildball

Although being somewhat of a nerd snob, I tend to stick to ones with a) everything painted b) at least some effort regarding production value, pointing your phone at the table just doesn't cut it, I'll admit this hamstrings my WMH as 'play like you got a pair' doesnt appear to stretch to brushes

I like SS82 and Tabletop Tactics, those vids are always nice (even if they are cheeky GW collaborators)(joke!)

I enjoy watching all sorts of Batreps! I usually stick with games I play or am interested in playing, but I occasionally through in something else for variety as well.

They are wonderful for background stuff while I'm doing hobby stuff.

I find written batreps boring. Sure they may be shorter, but so are SkaredCast and Frontline batreps.

I just make a playlist of recent reports and let it play through while I paint, build, wishlist, etc. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Prefer reading however when they have a caster style battle report or when people are actively responding then it is fun to have it in the background.

I think it will be interesting to see what 8th does because if they streamline the game and make things happen faster then it will lend itself to watching the games.

I prefer to read a batrep.

However, I tend to enjoy watching them from the GMG for skirmish games.

A vote for GMG from me, Ash has some kickass scenery and they almost always use fully painted armies of good quality. Granted, it is sometimes painful to watch how many rules mistakes they make with smaller games like BFG or Space Hulk, but the general atmosphere they have is always nice to watch. It's almost like they're playing to have fun

I'll second all of this. When I watch a Malifaux or Infinity video from Ash it does stick out to me when they get rules wrong, but the quality and enthusiasm present is still excellent. Even when he plays games I don't know anything about, I find it to be excellent background material while I'm painting.

Tabletop Tactics (www.tabletoptactics.tv) is now the gold standard of batreps. I know many here don't like to watch "live" ones, but these guys are great. Excellent production quality, good chemistry, and overall just good to watch.

You can watch from the site, or on Youtube.

I watch batreps by a guy on YouTube called The Glacial Geek. He posts his stuff here on Dakka as well under the username PhotoPhil. I like to put those reports on while I paint or assemble models.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

For AOS/40k there aren't many, because most either outright butcher the rules so you learn nothing (MiniWarGaming) or just aren't "tactical" enough. I am spoiled by Warmachine battle reports I guess where you can glean a ton of insight and tactical application from watching battles, but on the Warhammer side it seems to be just people derping around.

I usually watch/listen too the Great British Hobbit League & Hot Gates Gaming. (Run by the same guys). They're enthusiastic and usually know the rules very well so it's relaxing too watch.

I enjoy Winters SEO and Tabletop Tactics.

the30kchannel is fantastically made and presented although I don't know a lot about 30k.

In all honestly I find that I listen to them while painting and occasionally look up for interesting bits.. but rarely sit and watch them start to finish.

Another vote for GMG. I only watch them for games I play or am interested in learning. Ash always seems to be playing for the fun of whatever game they're covering.

The best (video) batreps IMO are from winters SEO. Amazing tables, armies and narrative talk through. Winters SEO only does 40k though, which... let's just say I'm a little over 40k.

After that GMG is great. Which game depends on my mood/how much attention I have to give and what I'm enjoying on the table. Warhammer batreps don't require nearly as much attention to follow as Infinity, for example.
AoS makes for better viewing because of the fun and exciting nature of the rules/game.
