I just finished my first squad of Raven Guard Intercessors. I'm even more excited to use them now that I've seen the rules!

[update] Here's my Primaris Captain. I'm generally happy with how he came out, but I had to rush some of the details. I'm especially unhappy with the sword, so I'll likely go back and repaint it when I'm not rushing to get ready for a tournament. I tried to split the difference between gaudy space marine captain and Raven Guard practicality.

[update] I just finished this unit of Inceptors. I hope you like them!

Good job defining the armor separations, and the green guns are an effective choice - noticeable but not overwhelming.

Very nice paint job, just a shame they are primaris

Great paintwork and I say that as someone who generally doesn't like blacked out models. Why did I think Raven Guard had white shoulder pads? I must be thinking of someone else. I like the single yellow shoulder pad trim. Nicely executed.

Excellent job on them mate!

The more I see more people's primaris, the more I applaud GW for making them. They look gorgeous!

Thanks everybody! I'll be posting more soon, since I'm painting up a 1000 point list for a tournament in August.

Agreed. The new marines are fantastic. Although I wish they had just released these without the new rules. I like mixed-weapon squads.

Those would be the Black Templars.

Those are lovely. How'd you do the eagles? Is that a washed metallic?

Yep! I used a few tricks to add color to these guys, though not all of them show well in the photos. The metal is done with blue, brown and purple washes over GW Leadbelcher with an Ironbreaker highlight.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
This photo shows another trick I used a little better. You can see that the marine got an airbrush highlight with Incubi Darkness before I started adding grey edge highlights.

Love that scheme. One of my main gripes with GW's recent artistic directions is that they keep making everything cleaner, less grimdark and more kid friendly. Your scheme brings the gritty back

Yeah, I totally agree. The green rifles were an ace choice, and work really well. I really hope to see what you did with the Captain!

Beautiful black armour! Very convincingly so - doesn't seem to be "greyed out", so to speak. Regarding Selym's grim dark comment: if GW brought back the 90's Style of painting things, I'd be a happy camper. Alas, I'd still say that the current art direction is cool beans.

This is an awesome trick to do black armour, I'd never have thought of it.
Would it work with other colours to tint the black differently?

Beyond that, these are some top tier pieces. Keep up the good work

Yeah, it should. Just keep the color dark and you'd be good to go.

It has been a while since I've posted updates, but here are shots of a Stormhawk Interceptor I just finished:

It's a piss-ugly flyer, but you've done a great job painting it. That's about as good as it's going to look. I think the hazard stripes are perfect and set it off nicely. I can't wait to see big shots of this army assembled at some point.

Just updated the first post with pictures of the Inceptors I just finished! I usually paint my base rims black, but I decided to switch to brown rims because the black rims took away from the black power armor.

I'm only very new to this whole painting thing, but im wondering, where did you get the decal sheets from? I cant seem to find them anywhere :(

Forge World sells Raven Guard transfer sheets, and regrettably, only Forge World sells them.

They're nice sheets but expensive if you're buying just them.

The whole bunch of Raven Guard look good. The Stormhawk especially looks great. Nice clean delineations on everything.

I've amassed a collection of transfer sheets at this point, but the raven guard transfers come from the Forge World raven guard sheet, as Kanluwen said. The tactical markings come from Ultramarines transfers, which should be included with whatever kits you buy, and the squad numbers are Dark Angels transfers.
