Traditionally at the start of the year, I think about what I want to try to accomplish this year in the realm of gaming and hobbying. I like to make a list and go from there. I do not look at it much, and do not force myself to adhere to it, but it is my goals.

Since we are about halfway throught he year, I thought now would be a good time to take a look at it and see how I was doing.

I have done good in the playing front, okay in rules writing, purchases, and random gaming stuff, and terrible with painting and modelling.

How about you?

Oh man, should you even do something like this? It's best not to think of all the stuff in my wargming closets.

My rough plans for the year were:
- get my AoS ogres finished and continue painting them - uhhhh...
- start an AoS Deathrattle army after the Ogres are finished - right
- build terrain for AoS/Relicblade - the year's not over yet, right?
- get the Relicblade models build and painted - build, primed and started paining! Yay!
- start 40k with 8th edition again - I played one game and have started a Primaris army, so that counts
- play the Dark Souls board game with wife/friends - done that
- play Kingdom Death with friends - still waiting for the KS to deliver
- play Darklight with friends - still waiting for the KS to deliver
- finish the Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower minis and play it - whoops

Wow, this looks better than expected. But I didn't even list stuff like the unbuild 30k Solar Auxilia army, Blood Angels, Tyranids, Deathwatch, Infinity Red Veil box, ... I'll stop here.

What have I done? Sod all... Barely played, barely painted. Life gets in the way sometimes...

I've accomplished a lot of mine:

Finished painting my DE army, now I'm just buying stuff to supplement
Finished painting my Eldar army, buying tings to supplement
Finished painting my harelquins, now I'm painting up the troupes

Now I just have to finish my necrons and put some paint on the 2000+ points of Genestealer Cult.

Also looking forward to starting an Inquisimunda narrative and maybe a 40k campaign (still holding out for a re-release of BFG)

Here are my New Year’s resolutions:
1 Finish painting the odds and ends from my friend's SOB army that I worked on. Just a handfull of arcoflagelents, spare immolater weapons, some IG HQs . Nope.
2 Paint more then I buy. 37/65 painted/purchased. 8th ed starter box does bad things to the numbers
3 Paint my spare bits. I've magetized a number of things, painted the primary set up, but never get around to doing the other options. Did some plasma pistols
4 Try to get more games in. More then last year
5 Update my blog at least once a week, and maintain a consistent pace of work (1 mini a week). doing good
6 Get my Eldar army to a larger level, 2 more full squads minimum, aiming to be more comfortable at 1,850, possibly 2k. One squad done
7 Enter and finish an entry every month for the painting challenge. If the monthly challenge stops, enter at least one comp in the year. In addition, paint something odd from the back of the bench a/o try out a new technique every month. Entered all the comps, painted some backstock, slowly working on new techniques.

Here is the last painted YTD shot I have. The crashed lander I just finished is not there, and the dwarf is sitting on my desk at work, so not in the pic.


Overall doing pretty good

Well so far this year I have:

Built and painted a new Juggerlord, Yay! But my other Juggerlord is beyond repair, Booo.
Built and painted the new Kharn model, Yay! Apostles seem like a better option though, Booo.
Painted a 5 man unit of Berzerkers, Yay! But my army needs 20, Booo.
Bought a new box of Berzerkers, Yay! But only built 4 and painted only 2, Booo.
Built and painted a custom Night Lords Sorceror, Yay! But I caniballised a Raptor to do it, Booo.
Bought, built and painted a Hellblade, Yay! Hellblades are still crap this edition, Booo.
Bought a new Fire Raptor, Yay! But it's likely to get blown up first turn by my friends Vendettas, Booo.

Besides that, generally just been complaining about new chaos releases. So far so good.

I finally finished at minimum one squad of marines.

also sold off a large portion of my old marines AND IG which makes me sadhappy because while its gone i no longer have to try and strip and re paint the lot again.

I don't think I made a plan, if I did I forgot it. I've been ill a lot this year so I missed out on a few months of hobby time.

- I painted several houses and other terrain for a 15mm By Fire and Sword village.
- I was going to finish my Swedish By Fire and Sword division but I got annoyed painting horses and moved on after finishing my dragoons.
- Started work on a 15mm Flames of War Desert rats army. I finished 11 Grants, 8 Crusaders, 4 25 pounders and a platoon of infantry. I need a few more pieces to make a complete army but have not bought them yet.
- Got back into painting 40k. I've painted 8 Genestealers, 1 Broodlord, 1 Flying Hive Tyrant, 1 Tervigon, 3 Warriors, 3 Tyrant Guard and 1 Trygon.
- I'm working on making some hills when I don't feel like painting miniatures.
- Currently I'm busy painting the Swarmlord then I have 10 Hormagaunts and 3 Venemthropes/Zoanthropes to do.

After that I'm free. I can paint more 40k but I'm burning out on Tyranids, try and finish my By Fire and Sword division or start a second one (Skirmish size only) so playing the game is possible, buy the rest of my FoW army and paint it or the last option and my current favourite choice try and get some of the 6mm Samurai I bought 8 years ago and recently rediscovered painted.

I never had a plan, but I ended up getting into FoW and now have a sizable mid war British force that's almost completely painted.

Every year I start it with a list of to-paint. Some models have been on for years, but it reminds me not to buy more until I reduce the size of my unpainted.

Well 2015 and 2016 were basically a write-off for me due to medical issues...my last list was at the beginning of 2015 when I had plans to finish off three armies and loads of optimism. Well sometimes life gives you lemons...so I started in 2017

So the part of my Imperial Guard was the last of my Elysians meaning three armies are done and I am starting on a forth.

As I like to say "The long painting war continues"...but this year I got my Mojo back.

I actually only have 4 heavy destroyers that are not at the edge highlighting stage yet. I think that I can reach my goal of having all my current stuff done this year. Still have a lot of work left, since most of my army is painted up until that stage, so there is a lot of edge highlighting to do.

I've since started an army of Admech, Deathwatch and standard Space Marines, I've also gotten my hands on a Castigator and Styrix Knight.

Painting is another thing, it's very slow going.

Each of the three armies is just over 1000 points worth, in the cases of the SMs, a lot more.

I've still yet to actually play a game of 8th ed this year though....

Painted maybe 30 malifaux models and a few random other things (a Blood Bowl player and some other stuff i forget like a single clan rat or empire swordsman :p )

But ive hardly bought anything so im sure its fine

8th and meeting up some new people to game against has really helped me get into gear. I've slowed down a bit recently due to other things but i've done

I've also committed to not buying anything new until my backlog is cleared and I will be selling some stuff. My backlog is still kinda big.

Finally finished a field-able Flames of War army; technically three of them now (US Airborne, US Light Tank and German Panzergrenadier). Still tons to do though with both Soviets and British now waiting in the wings for WW2.

Painted a few squads of Vic's models for a Guard army, but haven't made much progress than that. Did acquire all the alternate vehicles I plan on using, so that's nice to have in the bag.

Making....visible progress on my Team Yankee Soviets; in comparison to the size of the horde it's not much but in isolation it's a good chunk of some units moving along.

Overall though buying is outstripping anything else. Currently working on getting stuff assembled and into things that can store them. At one point I had assembled every model purchased for Team Yankee; April put me a bit behind there and Red Thunder made it worse. Probably shoot for catching that back up by the end of the month.

I just started painting minis late last year and dove into 40K in February. My aim then was to get an army up as fast as possible (probably shouldn't have picked Orks but who doesn't love a WAAAGH)

My goal was 1850 points, but now basically 2k. Here is what I've done over the past 6 months-
- 30 slugga boyz
- 30 shoota boyz
- 2 Trukks
- 8 nobs all with various weapons
- Warboss Grukk
- 5 Warbikers
- 20 or so Reaper D&D minis

I have some more on the table but right now I'm sitting at around 800 points. Not too shabby but looking for at least 60 more boyz before the year is done!

I bought a bunch of new stuff to add to the pile of shame.

I also made some shirts.

Refining skills in sculpting and painting.

- Converted 5 CSM biker sorcerers to use in Cyclopea Cabal. The rules for them were removed with 8th edition.
- Converted 2 Daemon Princes and 3 Greater Daemons.
- Painted up 20 metal raptors to a high standard.
- Airbrushed 10 CSM bikers.
- Airbrushed 20 Khorne Berzerkers.
- Airbrushed and painted a Black Legion Land Raider to a high standard.
- Magnetized 4 Chaos Rhinos to double as Predators, airbrushed and painted them up to a high standard.
- Painted a bunch of magnetized bits - sponsons, hatches, objective markers, etc.
- Created 3D printed stencils for applying Black Legion marks to flat surfaces for freehand
- Painted 40 cultists to tabletop standard.
- Airbrushed Heldrake to high standard.
- Reassembled large quantity of old models from previous editions, at least 100 of them, which had broken with storage. Pinned arms and joints with Dremel for added strength.
- Currently working on Sicaran, Spartan, Relic Predator, 3 Helbrutes and 2 Contemptors for Black Legion army. Using this as a chance to increase airbrushing skills.
- Preparing to start sons of Horus army.

Received 2 box sets as gifts - Burning of Prospero and Dark Imperium.

Played a fair number of games of 8th edition. Taking a lot of satisfaction with CSM results versus Eldar.

These were my New Year's Resolutions:

1. Don't start any new armies - no matter what's in the 8th ed. box
2. Finish painting my Eldar
3. Focus on getting more terrain done
4. Try to get at least 2 games a month in
5. Either paint or sell my Empire and Wood Elf armies
6. Rebase my old Terminators and Guard heavy weapons teams


1. Failed - started Primaris Marines.
2. Succeeded.
3. Succeeded. Some ruins, forests and the Shadow War boxed set.
4. Up to 2 games a week as often as not.
5. No luck selling them, they're in my storage locker now so at least out of sight and mind.
6. Completed for Guard, decided against rebasing the old Terminators.

Also did a fair number of Dark Angels this year in addition to the Eldar, the Shadow War Orks, some Guard vehicles, some Custodes and some Primaris. For the rest of the year, I'd like to get the Primaris done and do the Custodes in 2018 or the other way around depending on how my inspiration goes.

My only real resolution was "ebay off my stuff". Didn't get it done before I caught wind of 8th. That's not going to happen now.

Instead, I've painted 40 mordians, 10 space marines, and rebased all of my GK and SM models onto new magnetized bases.

If my goal was to get through the year without injuring myself while painting thing then i have not succeeded in this goal.

Overall, I have had a solid year so far.

I've built 20 scouts, a captain, 5 tactical termies, and 5 assault termies. As soon as I can wrest some of my free time away from the people constantly demanding it, I'll work on the other five assault termies...

Oh, and I helped my nephew build 20 cadian shock troops and a sentinel.

For me?

1. Fully Paint a 40k Army: Getting thereish?
2. Start a new army for a new year. Got some Tau!
3. Expand my Empire collection before they are taken out back and shot. Ongoing
4. Chew through my painting backlog. Nooooooooooo
5. Paint my bolt action soviets. Noooooooooooooooooooooo.

I painted one miniature - a week or so ago. It doesn't sound like much - but it's the first one I've managed to paint since fall of 2015.

Finally managed to fully paint my Butchers Guildball team - despite having bought them in January and there only being six of them plus a ball and a goal.

There's nothing like an upcoming tournament (British Champs) to get you painting!

Started a new job in a warehouse at a great company, been there 6 months and hoping to get a contract, a job in the factory or at the very least get put onto equal pay and terms which will mean a raise from £8.50 ph to more than £12 ph.

Kept up with Karate training, I'm now a 6th Kyu Green belt.

Started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to complement my Karate. Did my first session on Thursday, and I'm probably going to keep attending.

Started dating for the first time since I was a teenager (now 26). Had a date last week, got another date (different person) tonight.

I have had a productive year of painting so far, think I have actually made a dent in my backlog. This month is a wash, but I have been recording my progress per month and its looking pretty good so far.
