Has anyone done any modding on the viewports that we get on the Russ hulls? Always seemed a little weird it was just an open hole, and that the recent kits didn't change it any. Didn't pay it any thought again until just recently though!

When the movitvaion hits me and I'm still in the stage of building the hull, I'll put a blank piece of styrene across the viewport so it's not just a hole.

And later paint the added styrene gloss black, to represent the armoured glass the crew look through.

I think it looks fine, but if I were to do a conversion, I would glue a piece of clear plastic from the inside, making it look like bullet proof glass.

If you recognize that the Leman Russ is a pre-WW2 design, the lack of ballistic glass makes total sense. It really is an open air view slit.

Yeah, but you figure there'd be a hatch to go down over it like the Chimera has.

I built a rough cover with plasticard after my FW one was crapply cast. Small piece of spruce to act as a sliding cover with an edge filed into it to represent the glass, the rest of the spruce will be painted the same as the rest of the tank.

That looks pretty good, actually; the grey bit in the middle is just regular plastic sprue?

All but one of my tanks already has the thing glued on so if it's something I can do in situ, awesome.

Yeah just piece of regular spruce with one corner sanded down a touch.
