i see skalk´s point... but i have to say the three bridges approach looks good to me... going back to skalks comment... make that modular river and bridges sections and you are set!!!

(3 2ftx 4 ft segments) I second skalk's comment about the static river/canal. if it's merely a segment then you can swap it out for a non river one if needed.

@ Skalk - I'm going to make sure that the main bridge can let any vehicals pass through it as well I am thinking of making the board in 2'x2' squares so that it can be reorganised and designed for a veriety of layouts.

@ Vik - The temples going to be the pride and joy of this board in my opinion. The two buildings that I've wanted to build terainscape wise have always been a large and overgrand temple and a apartment building... Also have idea's in my head for many of the smaller buildings that go on the other side of the board.

Okay still working on the ideas for the appoc city board but thanks to insperation from Galorn I'm working out some idea's for a trench board that I've been thinking of for a while.

I'd have a main highway of some sort coming out of the gate, and the trenches/earthworks built around that, since they wouldn't destroy the road to build the trenches...you may choose to destroy the road or make it unusable by shell craters or barricades, but I'd definitely have a road of some sort going into the gate.

Would 6" be wide enough for a road?

Well, how wide is your biggest tank?

Maybe 4"...

I should have memorised the dimensions...

A Baneblade is about 7" wide, Chimeras and Russ about 4"

Okies... So a baneblade would be running on the edges of a 6" road..

It's looking alittle bland in my opinion...

Well, If I were you, I'd assume all the trenches were dug by the defenders, but then the attackers have occupied some of those trenches and are dug in. Approach the board as all pat of the gate defenses. Roundish Heavy Weapons pits would be dug in at strategic locations covering the approach to the gate.

Test 8 looks good,

Are trenches on Test 7 built by defenders or attackers?

and I'd honestly say you are probably best to plan for 9 pieces.

Test7 was build by the attackers as they approched the fortifications.

The plans look awesome so far dude, While I think the idea of the road is a cool one, I also think if things were to be transported from city to city, it would be shuttled not risked on a road convoy imo. But having said that If you go with a road I'd have it exiting the walls but split into forks to run either side of the trenches instead of over it. as I think in the logical side of things having it run over the trenches would possibly obscure possible enemy targets.

The theory behind the road is that it would run out of the town and into wherever for 'local' trafic. The attackers used it as they approched and then dug in through it and bombarded the last sections.

A thought that I had is that I could put a set of train tracks right throught the noman's land. Representing whatever planetary good were being shiped..?

There are examples of WW1 trenches where attackers and defenders built their redoubts so close to each other they had conversations with each other, plus in 40K books like Storm of Iron they dug so close they managed to undermine the walls of Tor Cristo (I think that was the citadels name) and place demo charges.

so does that mean you'll have the road undermined with the trenches?

The railroad is a cool idea too, I always loved the one in the Apocalypse book too!

I can't remeber the one in the Apoc book.

That battle is the feeling that I'm trying to get from this board!

The one I'm talking about is the Macragge board on the nids V ultrasmurphs

I am really excited to see this get built dude!
