A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

I feel your pain Theo... all that work !

For the scoreboard, maybe you could search ebay for an old Subbuteo one - seem to remember an electronic version, no doubt it worked in tandem with the floodlights they used to sell (also found on ebay)...

Thanks styrofoam the blog has been fun, but has slowed a little as the kids are out of school and I must spend time with them. Every time I have the motivation to try the airbrush something comes up. I think I just need to bite the bullet and crank it up, but I want to make sure I have enough time to clean it up afterwards.

hey theo... your start looks good... are the squares you cut up too big really such a nuisance? could the game still work or is it essential to have them a special size?...if push comes to shove... then you could use them for bleachers?...(looked the word up hope it is the right one...)...

also... i made the screen for my arena from an old plastic look-through-klicky thingy...(you know these thingies where you by each klick can see a new pic?) and then the hoovering scoreboard ...made from basically one clear green cocktail stick and tow non slotta bases....:

I love the pong display vik, I grew up on that game and we still have an original pong set at my parents house that still works . Indeed to find where all my stickers went so I can make the turn counters, basement is still a mess right now from moving everything around. But I think I can actually use bloodbowl stickers for the scoreboard .

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I think I may have come up with a much simpler and quicker idea for the board itself. It'll take a couple days to collect the materials for the base though. I think I'll use a 2'x4' board as the base, hopefully mdf (medium density fiberboard), and if I start with a 4'x8' board the other part of it will make a better tabletop than what I have already. On top of that board I am going to lay cork tile or rolled cork and spray it grey to look like old fractured concrete. I can add some pipes and other debris as well. Last night was more of a family movie night so didn't spend too much time on modeling. Did some doodles of how to layout the table, but those i'll keep under wraps until later.

new plan sounds quite worthwhile... the ruined concrete for instance as you said you wanted to include the arena into your other terrain pieces of the underhive, so that description makes more sense then green sleeves ...

Well I might have time to go get some of the supplies later today. Had this chunk left over from a basing idea I had a long time ago. Just a quick coat of mechanicum standard grey. I'll have to get more of the really thin PVC rod to use for the wide zones and center line.

Hmmm...Cork tile might be good for the roads I've been considering for a terrain project.

That's where I got the idea from bbb a lot of people use it for blacktop or concrete on their model bases, paint some faded lines and presto! Instant roadway. If you put a second row on top of the first you can have a sidewalk, and if you tear the pieces you can almost put them back together but leave a little space for fractured ground.

Some quick proof of concept ideas.

Wall showing rebar sticking out the top made from cut paperclips.

And if I can find more of these studs I think I found an easier way o mark the square edges. The pins I have are no longer available. They have been in my bits box for over 16 years. Found a different producer in Europe, but shipping is almost twice the price of ordering 5 packs of them.

The brass color is a little hard to see against the background, but that helps not detract from the pitch itself. Also saw some in black, a nice rust color would be great though.

Date night cancelled early due to tornados here in saint Louis. Packed up our food at the restaurant and dashed home because the kids were freaking out and the sitter was concerned because one touched down by her house. Husbands not responding to her calls.

Everyone survived here. Sitter finally got ahold of husband. Tornado within a mile of their house, but he didn't answer phone because he was online playing video games , we all would probably be guilty of the same, but I had to pretend to agree with her while she moaned. My son was freaked out about the storm. I think because right before school ended there was the tornado in Oklahoma that hit a school and they talked about it at his school. I think he got a lot of misinformation from other kids, and that has him worried. Lots of snuggles last night and then he slept in his old room with his twin sister, glad I never took down the bunk bed.

well...there are many things I envy you americans...icecream, burger diners everywhere... walmart... having my own shotgun...but when it comes to catastrophic weather... I like sitting snuggly in my middle European home...really... I would go ballistic if that gruesome weather ever would hit here...

thank the lords the bark of the storm was worse than it´s bite...

the concrete from cork looks really good...but I have some suspicious question marks right over my head...why the totally cool looking fan grill in the middle??? and will the whole ground stay as smallish as is? or do I have a misperception regarding scale?...anyways... I am full of faith here that this will turn out great... at least you painted it already a bit

When it finally passed over us late last night, it had weakened and spread out, but it was still a nasty thunderstorm that dumped tons of rain!. Glad you and all yours are ok!

@dave, glad you were spared the brunt of it. Kansas and Oklahoma seem to have been hit hard again. I guess I can always be Dave's early warning device , how does juju handle the storms?
@vik, I'll trade you Walmart for the weather . The size of the piece is small, because this is just a proof of concept for me. Basically a trial run, with materials on hand. I need to go to the store and buy more cork tiles and stuff. The grate is in the center of the field to be a drain, not a fan. When routine maintenance used to happen they would drain the sump pit, do any needed repairs, cleaning, and body removals then refill the pit. Now since this area of the underhive is unused it just drains the condensed moisture (rain) that occurs infrequeltly.

Worked a little on a bulkhead or inside the pit. I'm thinking one of these per side o act as the doorways to the "team locker rooms"/maintenance areas.

The doors are still water tight after the millennium have passed showing technology used to be good. These parts of the walls are plasteel as opposed to the ferrocrete of the rest of the pit. I'll need to look for some spotlight to go over the door, mine are lost in the chaos of the basement shuffling.

Tonight might see my first game of fantasy in over a decade with us using the mantic games kings of war rules. I read them yesterday and they remind me of the old FUN GW system before they became (bleeps didn't really mean anything coherent, just there for emphasis) .

Thinking of doing four of these per side . The ancient plumbers had the pipes flow into the sump pit from the restroom facilities of the imperium. Remember flush only once or the inquisition may come knocking.

Lamp above the workstation. These might be all around the pit to illuminate the field. They would have been part of the antibacterial functions of the original pit as the lights would have been submerged under the algae layer and helped to reduce mold growth this would have given the algae a strange glow from below when the sump was working. Nowadays the algae glows of its own accord.

Nice work so far on the sump-pitch-area-thing. I would be tempted to put another ring of the pipe over the square mesh and then you could add many of those small, round (although not always), low-tech, fastening devices so favoured by the League to show how it is held in place.
