While I wait for the Ork codex to drop, I've been thinking about how I might want to go about modelling my existing/future Ork army - I'd like to aim for something that's ultimately a bit unique, or at least less common.

I'm looking for ideally an armywide theme that can applied; and I was hoping you guys here might be able to help me figure out some potential ideas - nothing is off limits, nothing is too ambitions! Orks are a creative army, which is hilarious because I'm not a creative person. Worst case scenario, I can just loot someone elses idea that I've seen before (Aquatic Orks, Ork-Tyranid (looted Carnifex+bio army)); it is the orky way after all - if its not nailed down, it's not my fault.

But in all seriousness, there are so many talented modellers, painters, and enthusiastic modelists in general; it's all really inspiring - every time I see a new model, I see a new thing I either want to try, or have an idea of something I'd like to figure out.

Literally anything.
What's your favourite book, movie, sport, historical period, country, art movement, 80's cartoon, food and drink....?
Take any of those and really dig into every quirk you can and figure out how you could apply it to your toys.
Start 'writing' the story for your Waaagh, by the time you've decided on a few factors the main theme will become more informed.
I'm keeping my best cards close to my chest though.

Oli: Can I be an orc?
Everyone: No.
Oli: But it fits through the doors, Look!

Can Ork Genestealers be a thing?

Codex: Soyuzki - A fluffy guidebook to my Astra Militarum subfaction. Now version 0.6!
Another way would be to simply slide the landraider sideways like a big slowed hovercraft full of eels. -pismakron

genestealorks have been done a few times, not sure about the lore-fluff-legality of it though

What about medieval looted orks, all longbows with grenade tipped arrows and engines crammed into wagons?

They have existed but other orks notice something off about them and beat the gak out of them. Granted, this spreads spores. But apparently the Orks get kind of genocidal about it. Ork cults don't seem to get very far.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Mariachi band?
pro-wrestlers?
cereal mascots?
the customisation options for Orks can be very simple or very extensive, and all could work. Just make sure whatever you go with is going to be enjoyable.

Take a look at what I've been painting and modelling: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/725222.page
