Man I really miss old GW paints. The new ones dry out so fast. How do I know? I still have a ton of the old hexagon shaped ones from back in the day. When the pots were almost twice the size. I went through a bunch of them and the paint is still good. I have some more recent purchases that no matter what I do, they gum up and dry out before I can finish half the pot. One of my all-time favorites - Boltgun Metal, is almost gone. :(

I actually even have a few that are unopened. Saving those for a special projeckt if I can find one. One of them is Ultramarine Blue.

Anyone else got any of the old ones from decades past? And are still in use?

I even have some Ral Partha paint bottles still going. Have to store them upside down (screw top, do not do that with your GW ones).

Cheers,

I bought a mega paint set when the new paints came out (this was around 2012.) Left it in a closet, only pulled it out about a year ago.

The paints have mostly separated, I was able to get some of them going with medium, but not others. Forget about the technical paints, the texture paints, etc - they are all dead.

I have several mega paint sets from 2010, the ones that came in the grey troop carrying case. Anytime I need a new pot, I just grab one.

At this rate, my coffin will have extreme highlights of bleached bone and skull white.

You can still buy the old paints (heck, the old line) via Coat d'Arms (the company who originally produced the paints for GW). They're listed under different names of course.

They even come in the same old bottles (at least the last time I saw an order from them)

HOLY CRAP! I am going to do this.

Is there any mapping of what their paints might have been under GW? Like Boltgun metal?

Still using a mix of paints, some from the RT era.

If you look under the article section here, under painting, there is a conversion chart. I’d link it, but am on my phone. I’ll try to remember once I get home.

I buy the old red ink whenever I find it. It's so good. I also have the old foundation paints. I'd love to find a new pack, or a solid substitute.

KTG, let us know how you find them. I've put off ordering some a number of times, but I really want some. My friends have plenty of them and enjoy them.

US retailer for Coat d'arms is Scale Creep Miniatures.

Yeah those were the best. Still in perfect condition. You can get some acrylic thinner to revive them though (i use humbrol, cheap and effective). I have some old paints sealed with parafilm to keep them from drying. Clingfilm probably works too.

I still have few bottles from 1989. They need a good shake but they are still very much a liquid. The hexagonal bottles were the first ones I came across that couldn't keep a decent seal and the GW bottle design seems to have only gotten worse over time. Pity really because I've always found the paint to be excellent.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I have some very old paints. Oldest are circular bottles that have no labels on. Then I have a set of inks that came slightly later, with labels that depict a golden demon squinting holding a paintbrush (I still have Chestnut! This stuff, maaan!) and quite a few hex bottles. maybe about 30 from late 80's - 90's sometime. Damn I remember when white dwarf was more like a fanzine in black and white. Ahem, /best treebeard voice .. but then, I am very old :*(
