Oh yes.
It’s what everyone is really looking forward to. That bowl. Glass or plate that forms your afters.
We may all enjoy our equivalent of a Steak (medium rare for me, only seasoned with salt and pepper, thanks) and that. But you cannot whack a good pudding or dessert.
Me? I mostly crave trifle. Jelly, Custard, Cream, Sponger, Fruit. It’s a veritable smorgasbord of yum. And that shlurrrp as the first serving is dished out? That to me is Christmas and happy times. And there’s a lot of varieties one can make that count as a trifle. Mumsie Grotsnik does a seriously excellent chocolate and cherry version.
What’s your take on Pudding, Dakka? And do you have any recipes to share?

Baked Alaska, ice cream, the mighty steamed pudding (syrup and with or without sultanas), jam rolly polly, Cheesecake in its many many many variations!
Also chocolate cake - not too heavy on the chocolate, not too "sickly sweet". It wants to be rich (ideally dark) with a nice powerful contrasting taste like cream or icecream.
Also lets not forget the might cornish icecream (often better than many of the rank and file vanilla standards)

Oh chocolate cake should always be made with the highest cocoa content you can find!
I do Brownies on occasion, and prefer 95% cocoa solids. There’s so much sugar going in there, you need the bitter chocolate to get the balance.
And yes. Cornish ice cream is great.

All desserts are good desserts. I made flan (the mexican kind?) the other day, which was a fun new expirement! It didn't quite look right but it tasted good.
Custard is always worthwhile.

Oreo pudding pie.
It involves crushing up Oreos and laying them in a 9x13 pan. Then covering them with chocolate and vanilla pudding. Let it stiffen in the fridge overnight. Boom, delicious dessert that is shockingly easy. Substitute in your favorite crispy cookie or pudding as desired.
Another tradition with my family is to make Jello, but not just any jello. Make layers with different flavors of jello, and to each layer add chunks of fruit as well as a soda that pairs well with that flavor. Ginger Ale goes well with Lime. Cola with cherry. Sprite with orange. etc... The fruit is usually a mixture of maraschino cherries, pineapple chunks, raspberries, and blackberries. Top with whipped cream, or sometimes add a layer of pudding as well.

Ice cake
Especially ones with strawberry (or other fruit) and vanilla icecream and coated in chocolate. Bonus points if it has little chunks of fruit in it.
Or for something simple, vanilla ice cream with hot cherries.
But I agree than any dessert is a good dessert. It is hard to come up with a dessert that isn't really tasty.

For pudding, I'll suggest a pistachio creme brulee.
But if we're getting fancy, Cherries Jubilee for dessert!

Way too much people screw up bread pudding with raisins. Same people who make fruit cake. Speaking of, I need to try the croissant bread pudding at Masa

I've literally never even heard of a bread pudding without fruit in it, that's how you know it's a pudding.
I only tend to develop a sweet tooth in winter, so my preference is for puddings in the traditional sense over on this side of the pond. Crumbles(my gran & grandad used to grow their own rhubarb), warm tarts & sponges, clootie dumplings etc, with custard usually. A sweet version of french toast is also nice for a winter breakfast.

I'll eat just about any kind of cake that's in front of me. Chocolate, vanilla, carrot, you name it. I also really like ice cream. Strange thing is, I've never cared for ice cream cakes. They are good separately, but not together to me.
But perhaps my all-time favorite dessert treat is the classic root beer float. Just get that root beer nice and cold, as in stick it in the freezer until it is just starting to form ice crystals in it, then put in in cups and add the ice cream. Damn, now I'm craving one...

Jam. Roly. Poly.
Especially in winter. With Birds custard. All piping hot.
Tastes divine, sticks to your ribs. Close second of course is Apple Strudel. I’ve been meaning to try making both from scratch for a while now.

No, that's specifically how you tell bread pudding is pudding, and not just eggy bread.

Favourite puddings/desserts have to be either trifle (especially my dad's homemade one), jam roly poly or a banana split, although I'm also partial to a creme brulee or bit of cheesecake.

Clotted cream is good, but sweet god-emperor you Brits need to fix all the unappetizing names your food has. Its enough to make even a strong stomached man gag.

Oh, what a wonderful thing. The crunch of the merinque, the tart strawberry, the silkiness of the cream.
Just wonderful. And probably the only thing to have come out of Eton that's genuinely improved life in the UK

I remember Sylvester McCoy mentioning rice pudding on Dr. Who once. I tried some out of a can, I can't say it was all that good. Then again it was canned...
