also is that a new possessed?

Sure looks like it!

Based on the news and that picture, the box seems to contain:

Primaris:
Librarian
Captain (the bearded dude in the picture, Telion-look-alike (or Primarified Telion?)
Lieutenant (the bolter dude with the Lt. markings)
Eliminators (Primaris snipers)
Vanguard bolter marines (can be seen in the background of the painting and in the video)
Vanguard marine(s) with some kind of heavy weapon (rotor-cannon? Seen in the background)

Chaos:
Master of Possessions
Regular Chaos Marines
Obliterators (at least two)
Venomcrawler Daemon Engine
Possessed

Am I missing anything?

I'm guessing the "standard" 125 euros for a box set. Wondering if most of these will be multi-part, or if we're looking at a box full of easy-to-build...

This is exactly why Primaris hold absolutely no interest for me. I think they look terrible. Technological advancement has no place in warhammer 40k.

It actually scares me to think that the game might be headed in this direction. They had the right idea back in 4th and 5th where everything was knights in space.

Indeed. The Warrior Monk aspect of Marines was precisely what made them interesting. Primaris are just guys in armor. It's dull. Pretty, but dull.

I, on the other hand, got tired of the incessant tide of bling a long time ago, particularly for regular marines. Less is more, IMHO, and going back to a cleaner core book for marines plus high-ish tech and a more sensible approach to blling speaks to me much more.

Different strokes for different folks. I never really got into the aesthetic of the old marines (except Space Wolves, because Vikings in Space), but I really like the look of nearly all Primaris models, except the Gravis-armoured ones and the Inceptors. I'd prefer it we got a Primaris Tactical Squad with all the old weapon options, but the models, so far, have looked fantastic to me. On the other hand, I do see the appeal of the old marines, with their more varied armour and gothic looks (and their long history). I think what makes the Primaris look better to me is not the simpler armour, less bling, or what have you, but simply better proportions and more interesting poses.

I predict the full contents of the box will be..

Chaos -
Sorcerer guy
5 chaos space marines
5 possessed
2 oblits
Venom crawler

Marines -
Librarian
5 scout Primaris as.seen in the artwork
3 to 5 snipers
3 Imperial bike things with heavy weapons options

Think bikes/speeders for the marines would match up with the scout style and would give much needed firepower to the vanguard marines

I’m thinking both the bearded captain and the lieutenant shown in the artwork will have to be in the box too. Showing them so prominently and then not including them would be a major departure for how they’ve done artwork for these boxes in the past. Similarly, I would expect any bikes to actually show up in the art if they’re in the box.

Well, as I am accustomed by this point my response was completely ignored, but once again, I was told by a GW employee that the kits are multipart, the possessed are a new Gal Vorbak style unit, and the obliterators are the same as the codex.

Thanks for sharing man. Very interesting information if indeed true. Multipart would be cool, and will likely mean that all units in the box will be released separately at some point, instead of possibly staying exclusive to this box. Hopefully that means the old Chaos Marines will finally go the way of the dodo and be replaced by these awesome-looking new dudes.

An obvious one is Chaos Cultist special weapons and champions.

Did we ever get a multi part Chosen release post Dark Vengeance? The weird thing is as well as the champs and special weapons not even all of the vanilla cultists sculpts got a release after the set came out. That was 2012 though...a loooong time ago.

Dark Vengeance had 11 different Cultist sculpts, not counting the 2 different weapon/backpack options for the heavy, so basically 12 different models (2 champions, 4 x pistol and CCW, 4 x autogun, and 2 x heavy). Only 5 of those were released separately later, and out of all the Chaos models in that set, only the Helbrute later received a separate multi-part set. The Aspiring Champion which was later added to the newer version of Dark Vengeance was the only other CSM to be released with the same aesthetic, up until Blackstone Fortress.

The 'torso and legs being connected' aren't the issue- or what happens in monopose kits. It's the lack of options and customization.

So monopose is a meme

I want my models to be able to tilt their heads and face a specific direction, to have dynamic poses with their arms that work with their stance

And for the first time GW are giving you what you want.

to have a degree of personalization that makes them actually look the way I want them to.

Well personalization, by it's very nature, can't really be included in the kit, so it is really what you make of it.

I'm being a little tongue in cheek with my responses here. I just wanted to push back agaisnt the idea that these new kits are somehow lacking compared to the older kits. IMO the newer kits are the best we've ever had, poses included.

I agree that I found it much easier to create interesting poses with Primaris marines than with the old "squatting" marines. Even though I could only connect each torso to a set of legs in just one manner, they resulting marine each looks very different (while the old squatting stances all look very similar, at least from a distance), and with creative choices of arms and head directions, I could create distinct and interesting poses far easier than with the older models. The poses might get repetitive if you have an entire army of primaris, but then you could do a lot to mix-and-match the different Primaris kits (e.g., combining the Intercessors and Helblasters kits will give you 10 distinct basic poses for basic Mark X armour marines, which could be easily interchanged with all kinds of different arms etc., and that's not including the poses from the EtB Primaris and any character kits).

Obviously you can do a lot with "old" marines too, but making their poses interesting often requires quite a bit of modelling skill and even greenstuff skills, while the Primaris are a bit more friendly to less-experienced builders, certainly as long as you're happy to do a little kit-bashing.

As for the true monopose EtB kits, to me they look like the can be easily combined with bits from the full kits to just have the basic "torso & legs" as just another option to connect different heads and arms too. The only downside seems to be the pre-molded kit etc.,

I think this guy will be another Greater Possessed to come in the box? He appears to have the claw from the Rumour (Daemon) Engine.

Good. They've dragged these teasers on for too long with barely giving anything of actual substance. Bring on actual information not "OH HMM I WONDER WHAT THIS TINY PIECE OF A MODEL COULD BE!?!" kind of gak.

I found the Daemon Engine to be rather amusing.

Anyway, when they showed the Greater Possesed yesterday they said they'd preview the Loyalists today, in particular their leader - I'm guessing that means either Ninja Librarian or Captain McBeardy. I'm guessing we'll be seeing the full box revealed this weekend. AFAIK, the Ambots going on preorder tomorrow are the last of the releases we "knew" would be coming, so I wouldn't be surprised if Shadow Spear is going on pre-order next week.

Something feels off about him. He just looks kinda clunky. His legs look a bit too far away from his waist, and the reiver belly armor joints don't help.

I think the servo skull is messing with his profile a bit: moving it to another location on the model might help. But I'm not entirely convinced either.

Those worrying he might be Ultras-specific can relax though, as all Chapter iconography is clearly painted on, and not molded.

I really like the Servo skull, and the bolt carbine is neat too.

Is there any functional difference between a bolt carbine and a boltgun?

Ruleswise, I think the Carbine and the Auto Boltrifle are the same? Same stats as the boltgun too but they're both Assault instead of Rapid Fire.

I’m intrigued that 6 out of 10 infiltrators and 2 of the flying autocannon dudes are duplicates, while every other model seems to be unique (including every single CSM). I guess that means at least the Space Marines are all monopose, but still doesn’t give a definite answer for the CSM. The earlier spotted Melta and Heavy Bolter are definitely not shown in this reveal.

New Marine Preview.

Floaty firehose Marines still look silly.

Love it, and great to see the other chapters represented there. Now I'm just going to hope for chapter upgrade sprues for Vanguard/Reivers, with those nifty shoulderpads they have. Normal shoulderpads work fine on Reivers, but the Phobos shoulder pad does look quite sleek.

The "firehose" marines I'm less keen on, but they may still be salvageable. Loving all the dudes in Phobos armour, anyway.

I like all the new Chaos models. Regarding the Termies, they’re indeed very similar to their previous versions, which is good, IMHO. Did people complain when the new Fire Warriors looked mostly the same as the previous ones? Or the most recent Tactical Marines update over the previous kit?

That said, I do hope the new Termie kit has some helmets with the more elaborate horns as well. But on the whole these look great. Clearly the torsos and legs go together in certain combinations only, but while many here don’t seem to like that, I think this result in far better and dynamic poses than the previous “ball-joint” waists.

Okay, so to make a comprehensive list of what Chaos is getting that is new, including boxed games:

Abaddon
Lord of possession
Warpsmith guy riding giant spider
Greater possessed
Chaos Marines Easy to Build kit
Chaos Marines
Terminators
Havoks
Easy to Build Obliterators
Venomcrawler
Chaos Stargate thingy
Khorne Skull terrain

Possibly adding to that: perhaps multi-part Venomcrawler and obliterators. Perhaps adding that thunderhammer guy as an optional layout.

That's 12-14 new kits. Isn't this a pretty big release that was pretty much just dropped into our laps? Bigger than pretty much anything before?

Dont forget the units in Blackstone Fortress, Beastmen and Traitor Guard, Dark Mech and also the Nurgle part of the Rogue Trader box. I think this is only the tip of the iceberg. At least one more Codex, maybe Lost and Damned, and more kits. I also heard this wave would be even larger than what we have seen so far.

Nice new models so far btw

There’s also the new “Dark Apostle” hinted at by the Rumor Engine pics and the art that also has Abaddon in it, and there’s the “sorceror” backpack rumor pic that hasn’t shown up for any of the known units yet. So I’d say we are looking at at least two more character kits.

There's nothing "hinted" about it. The artwork exists, so the model exists, and he will look exactly like that, just like Spider-Mechanicus dude in the background matches the miniature pretty much exactly.

That was what I was trying to imply, yes, thank you.

So bit of a complaint on the Shadowspear models as I sit here assembling them. The Infiltrator Sergeant does not have a helmet at all. On all the previous Primaris models that did not wear a helmet they’d have it hanging on their belt, or at least include it as an extra bit you could do that yourself with. This guy’s just missing it entirely.

It does explain why his head looks like it's been chewed by a Bloodthirster, though. Perfect "always wear your helmet to work" advertisement, that guy.

Looks like I've got to wait until LVO is over to find out about the 'Elites' expansion to Kill-Team in order to field the new stuff.

Kinda sad, you'd thing GW would at least be hurling new Chaos Space Marine rules updates with the new toys coming.

I'm assuming you mean Adepticon (LVO was over a month ago)?

I'm very curious whether there will be any updates to the datasheets from the main KT rulebook in the Elites expansion. With the new CSM kit, you'd at least expect them to receive more equipment options in KT...
