Hi!
Seeing as i tend to stretch out my hobby projects into infinity and that my better half has noticed... I have decided to seek motivation with a blog
Feel free to comment or ask questions, i am open to hearing about how you would tackle my projects or go into detail myself on how i did certain things
So first off: my knight, which i started close to a year ago, though most of the work on him has been since the Christmas holiday
This is where i am at, the legs have been reposed most of the various options are magnetized and i am now working on some custom shoulder pads
More to come as i get into the beat of taking pictures as i work

Does he have a giant whisk as weapon? If so, I am absolutely stoked. If not, I still am. Great work!

He isn't but if he was he would be an eggxemplar of eggtraordinary eggcellence
Thanks, i am quite proud of how he is turning out
Here are a few pictures of the shoulder pad process
Basicaly i wrap a 0.5 mil rectangle of plasticard around my brush soap pot (seemed the best size) add my shoulder pad shape, 1 mil, on top with plenty of solvent cement and taped it securely. Once that was dry i layered .5 mil plasticard cut ( with edges sanded at an angle) to make a chevron patern on top. Then i retaped it to my soap pot.
It mostly kept the shape once everything was dry and off my makeshift jig

Thanks, it took a bit of experimenting but i am quite happy with how they are turning out
To keep things flowing, finished the primary build on the second pauldron
They are just balanced on the main body mounting points, they should sit parallel to the edge of the carapace.
I should get some detailing started on them sometime this week
Cheers

I am curious about what you plan to do with the helm, as it looks like you have completely closed it off. Shoulders look good, even just sort of in place.

The faceplate is to be mostly featureless and will likely be painted glossy black.
If memory serves, dave taylor miniatures has done exactly that a few years ago. The inspiration is entirely dave's fault. Assuming my memory isn't mixing someone elses work.
I am on my phone, but tonight ill go looking for the inspiration in question, and i can snap a few close ups of mine as well
Cheers Automatically Appended Next Post: As here is the inspiration by dave taylor
Here is a closer look at my knights faceplate

It has taken a while but i have some progress to show
He was not meant to be a Styrix but the materials i had where begging for it, that and martian heat guns are cool

Beeing on vacation has meant time to move this project forward
Recently i dicovered a really cool youtube channel called night shift. Its basiscally an armor modeling channel were he covers various methodes used to improve the accuracy of tanks kits and all the weathering techniques you can use.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNM5EknY1XBA9buLmJqYLdw
His rolled steel tutorial seemed really easy to use and i felt it could be employed to convey how old most knights are. I think it turned out ok, i just hope my paint job doesn't obscure all that nice texture
I also finally worked up the courage to do the 'gear teeth' detailing on the pauldrons, they are not perfect by any means but i am still happy with how they turned out
No real progress on the gun, i am in a bit of an impasse. I am not too happy with the power coils and am not too sure how to detail the rest. I do like the general shape and the nozzel and its shroud

Nice work!
Is that a volkite-cannon of some sort I spy? all hail the choom!
If you want some inspiration on scratchbuilding volkites I have a small thread on the matter over at B&C http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/323086-of-endless-forms-most-beautiful-volkite-armaments/
|
I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.

Yes its its meant to be a choom stick
Also, i wish i had seen your thread earlier, i definately would have approached my build differently. You do nice work!
So, I made some progress, changed the mask, as i was not too satisfied with the plain one. Conceptually it was cool, but i felt it no longer fit with my other mods. I also finished the cog details on the pauldrons and switched out the tilting shield for the van saar energy shield
I'm mostly satisfied with my volkite canon, i still have some detailing to do and some cleaning up but it presents the right profile, i feel
My two concerns right now are the helm and rivets. While i am much happier with the direction my helm is going, i feel it is missing something
Speaking of something missing, well, initially i did not want to have them, but the more i think about it the more i feel it really should have them. Specifically, on the edge banding of the pauldrons, groin plate and helm as well as the banding on the canon.
What do you guys think?

Thanks, knowing what your stuff looks like, that means a lot.
Yeah! The van saar shield was a happy moment of inspiration as i really didn't like the tilting shield, not AdMechy enough!
Cheers

Taking a bit of a break from my mechanicus knight until i get my hands on some decal softener and some other other weathering related things
The first ones where kinda clumsy but am getting the hang of it now. I really like the early marks of power armor and wanted to give these guys a more diverse look than the identically armored marines in the base kit. I also have a bunch of mark 3 kits i bought before the enbiggening of the primaris.
I have ordered some styrene rivets to add as molecular bonding studs, by the end of this they should look like they have been fighting away from the main lines of support for a long time and have been using old PA parts and repair techniques to keep their gear functional
