Subject: SDCC Stuff - Doom Patrol S2! Lady Thor! MCU reboot of Blade!

We'll find out soon enough eh.
|
Yeah, so, as title.
Thor 4 will be "Thor: Love and Thunder", and will adapt the whole "Lady Thor" thing, with Natalie Portman returning as Jane Foster. It'll either be genius or, much more likely, a 2+ hour long head-into-torso cringe.
Also, apparently Blade is getting the nu-Marvel treatment, with Mahershala Ali in the titular role. This one will be interesting, since the first couple of Blade movies are generally fairly well regarded, certainly they're among the better pre-MCU supey hero movies.
And best of all; Doom Patrol has been renewed, and bloody right too. Genuinely one of the best shows on TV.
Apparently "Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness" could be teeing up WandaVision. Or the other way around. Either way, "alternate reality" is as good a way as any to get around . Very much hoping that the post-credit stinger will be a Fantastic Four hint.

I'd be up for a Blade reboot. The Wesley Snipes films were pretty good. Even the worst of them, #2, was still a fairly good action flick and Trinity felt like it was establishing the formula and tone of the MCU years before the MCU even started.

All of my excitement for Thor 4 just withered into nothing. I like the Lady Thor story in the comics just fine, but I really can't see Natalie Portman pulling it off. I'm honestly amazed she even wants to, she was pretty public about not wanting to do another mcu film again after dark world. They must have thrown a tonne of money at her. Her absence is I think a big reason Ragnarok is as good as it is.
Blade was a huge surprise. Don't know how they're gonna do that justice while keeping it PG. I didn't think any of the marvel knights would ever become part of the MCU. I'm good with their choice of actor at least, Ali was excellent in Luke Cage. I can see him killing that role.
I'm a little surprised and miffed no Avengers film was announced. I've heard that phase 4 is supposed to herald a new direction, but I hope the ensemble movies aren't going away. The solo adventures that lead into the team ups is like one of my favorite things about this franchise.

So there is a lot to like about this. 10 Rings? Mandarin for real. Nice. Yolena? (Black Widow might be planting a seed for Yolena to take over as the new Black Widow in the modern day.) Blade? Cool. The other movies? I trust Marvel. They haven't made a full on bad one yet. If I am cautious about anything it's Natalie Portman. She is a good actress and I am sure she could 100% do Lady Thor. I don't know if she didn't want to be in the movies before because of what a nothing part she had. That could have been the case. Is Natalie Portman gunna be a Lady Thor for a multi Movie deal or is this a one off event in this movie? It's a interesting question... Again, MCU hasn't really let me down yet. So I will give them benefit of the doubt. But I hope Natalie gives it her all and doesn't tank the role which is my real concern. Not their plan, but her ability to carry it. Shes certainly a good enough actress too. But will she if the role displeases her sensibilities or whatever?

Mahershala Ali as Blade Although I guess that really reinforces that the Netflix shows are not part of the MCU.
Really interested in the Thor news. I wonder if Portman will be doing the actual hammer wielding or if they will follow the comics and have Jane transform, with another actress playing her thunder god form?
Fingers crossed for a Trevor Slattery cameo in Shang-Chi

Awww negotiations with Wesley must have collapsed as marvel had been talking to him about playing Blade again, but it was said at the time that they had a plan b reboot if they could not agree terms.
Lady Thor would be better if they ignored the comics and just had Loki turn Thor into a woman.

So apparently Black Widow movie is not an origin story but takes place after Civil War? Well this makes me at least slightly interested now.
And new Fantastic Four under development? Ummm...well, that's a bold move if anything.

Marvel Studios had their big presentation at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday and we got all the announcements. After remaining mum on their future plans for a very long time Kevin Feige took to the stage to tell us Marvel’s plans for the next two years. Despite the fact that he was only telling us two years worth of material Marvel had plenty to tell us.
However, despite the fact that Marvel had plenty to tell us that didn’t mean they had a lot of footage to show off this time around. Unlike previous years where entire clips of upcoming movies were shown we’re a little under 10 months away from the next movie and they’ve only been shooting a month. Before Marvel would show off some footage from Black Widow, the next movie to come out, we did get a brief something from one of the TV shows.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier is the first of the Marvel Disney+ shows to come out in Fall 2020 and while Marvel didn’t share a trailer they did have an interesting way to reveal that a character is returning. Daniel Brühl, who played Zemo in Captain America: Civil War, appeared on the screen on stage. It was a 4th wall breaking video similar to the way Loki appeared on stage yeard ago. Zemo was “taking over” the panel and tried to trigger the Winter Soldier, stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan were on stage, with the words.
He then says that those words no longer work and mentions that he wanted to tell them that he’ll see them soon. The transmission begins to cut out but not before Zemo picks up a purple mask and puts it on. Zemo returning is a good plan for this series since he is an extremely interesting villain and one of the only Marvel villains who won in the end. His plan was to break up the Avengers and he succeeded. It’s going to be a lot of fun to see him return.
The rest of the panel was largely graphics to accompany title cards but we did get some new footage from the upcoming Black Widow movie. Marvel has been saying for years that Natasha was going to get her own movie and next May it’s finally coming out. They brought out the entire cast before dropping a brief teaser since they’ve only been shooting a month, that Marvel won’t be releasing wide.
The footage begins with various scenes from Natasha’s (Scarlett Johansson) time in the Marvel universe overlayed with the talk she has with Steve in Avengers: Endgame about how she had nothing before this job. We cut to a city and the word Budapest appears. Budapest was a reference in the original Avengers between Natasha and Clint Barton but they have never explained exactly what happened. It seems that we’re going to find out now.
We follow Natasha to an apartment where she comes upon Yelena (Florence Pugh). “I know you’re out there,” Yelena calls out as Natasha enters the room.
“I know you know,” Natasha replies as they confront each other with guns drawn. “Are we going to talk about this like grown-ups?” Natasha asks.
“Is that what we are?” Yelena replied. They use the same move at the same time to take each other’s gun and then a brutal fight breaks out. The two women pull no punches as they beat each other senseless and the fight looks like something you would see in a Bourne movie only with better editing. Eventually, they are using the same shower curtain to strangle each other and we cut to black. The next thing we see is Natasha pouring a drink and saying that “it’s good to see you, sis. You just had to come to Budapest.”
We get a montage after that of various scenes that, again, look like a Bourne movie. We see Natasha running through the mountains, we see a motorcycle chase, more agents of the Red Room on a roof. Then we see a car crash on a roof. Natasha pulls herself from the wreckage and shoots at someone coming for her. The bullet bounces off a shield and the look of the armor seems to confirm the Taskmaster. We don’t see who is under the mask but he and Natasha fight for a moment and their movements are similar as well. The fight ends with them kneeling at one another. As for who is playing Taskmaster they don’t say but Ray Winstone has been cast in this movie so that’s a possibility.
We shouldn’t expect Marvel to release this footage since it is clearly rough cut and not meant for public viewing. However, if this is the kind of brutal fights we can expect from the Black Widow movie it could be something really cool. The female spy genre is a fun one and it’s going to be interesting to see how Marvel blends that with the most fantastical elements of the universe.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

makes me feel better about the series because i was worried they were not gonna be that good.
So is luke cage no longer part of MCU :(

Kind of bummed they couldn't get Wesley Snipes back, but I understand.
After the last season of True Detective, they could have done a lot worse than Mahershala Ali
now if heyy can only get Stephen Dorff back though, speaking of True Detective...
O snap - you think they're going to use Wanda to get mutants into the MCU? Like, the House of M totally in reverse? "Not enough mutants"?

Interesting thing to note is that Olsen is in the cast list for Dr Strange. So Dr Strange teaching Wanda magic to supplement/control her powers? Wanda Vision is set to release in spring 2021 with Dr strange May 2021. So who know which comes first.

I mean, of the various heroes, she seems the one least aware of exactly what her powers are?

They said at the panel that WandaVision ties directly into Doctor Strange 2. So whatever weirdness (and it is meant to be weird) goes on in the TV show will no doubt lead Wanda to approaching Strange.
But man, am I surprised that the one I want to see the most out of that whole lot is Shang Chi. It's that subtitle (Legend of the 10 Rings) that has me locked into that one. Plus this is amazing (look at the dates):
Beyond that, Falcon/Winter Solider is just something I cannot wait for. Winter Soldier is still my fav Marvel movie, and I really love how they do Falcon and Bucky. And I'm down for a Hawkeye series. Renner seems really into the idea, and if it excites him, then great. More Hawkeye... or, rather, Hawkeye s!

If they are in need of a buff blonde to smack the Hammer down, I'd suggest either Ronda Rousey or Katheryn Winnick.
