Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

You know the drill! 2 days to pick the topic for next month. October will be the traditional spooky Halloween round, so whatever comes runner up here will get another go in November.

Nothing to Fear but Fear Itself: Blades and bullets may tear the flesh, but the morale of the enemy is best broken by fear. Your entry should feature models who employ fear or terror as weapons, from grotesque abominations to shadowy assassins sowing panic behind enemy lines.

Down To Earth: Some do battle with arcane might, superhuman ability or mind-boggling technology... Others do things the old fashioned way, with boots on the ground and a simple, reliable weapon. From the humble Imperial Guardsman to the rough-and-ready outlaw, your entry should feature individuals who fight without technological or magical advantages in their favour, instead relying on their own skill, grit and tenacity.

Not As Clumsy or Random: The lightsaber. The sniper rifle. The duellist's blade. The knife in the back. Your entry should feature a model toting weaponry that requires a great deal of precision and skill to use well, rather than that which relies on brute force or crude methods.

Up, Up and Away: There's nothing like a little air superiority. Whether by vehicle, equipment or natural ability, your entry should feature models that are capable of flight.

Gone for the precision option. Got loads of AVP predators to paint and just got some not 40k assassin's from the Heresy Labs Kickstarter.

In another bout of masochism, I voted for Up, Up, and Away. I’ve got a stormhawk that’s been sitting idle for a while. Need a push to get it painted. Or I could cop out and do some jetbikes or a WS. Options.

Definitely won't make it for August's Challenge like I thought but will definitely do my best to get something done for this one... Voted on 'Not as Clumsy' but have ideas ready for all 4!

I voted for Down to Earth as I've got lots of Guardsmen that need to be painted soonish, but I could figure something out for any of the categories I'm sure.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Both down to earth and up up and away fit in with what I'll be painting anyway, ended up going for up, up and away. Will have something for any of them though, one advantage of an overflowing cupboard of shame!

Missed this and I would have picked Nothing to Fear but Fear itself but up, up and away is something I can definitely manage with all of my scale aircraft.

You love the T-Rex. Its both a hero and a Villain in the first two movies. It is the "king" of dinosaurs. Its the best. You love your T-rex.
Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

Sometimes these challenges are real good for getting stuff you are less motivated to do across your paintbench.

Assault marines need more love. They are the oft-neglected leg of the tac/dev/ass triumvirate. But look cool and are full of character. Even if they suck on the table, and have done so since 3rd edition.

Strap on that jump pack, rev up the chainsword, and go cause some carnage!

I sooo wanted Not as Clumsy or Random to win, I have and I need to paint miniatures with sniper rifles.
I don't think I have any minis capable of flight....

Nice, I was worried it was gonna be the precision one as I only have scouts for that category and their greenstuff isnt finished yet. Its kinda great because I've just finished spraying my Assault Marines and Devastators that is my next project.

I went for Up, Up and Away - I think it might be a return to Star Wars for me. Although reading the thread I now feel guilty because Modock doesn't have anything to enter. :(

(That's always a good excuse to go and buy something new! Perhaps you could apply your skills to a cheap airfix model, even.)

I just bought a start collecting Sylvaneth box, so down to earth for me.

Though I have an idea for the nothing to fear but fear itself.

Edit : missed the time ending . Still think I have a far out idea with the sylvaneth.

So up up and away it is. I have some flying creatures from the resident evil 2 board game so will get them primed tonight. My only other option would be a squad of sanguinary guard but I am so slow at painting marines I don't think I could knock them out in a month.

I was also hoping for "not as clumsy or random" for an excuse to paint a sniper rifle mini, but I've got some dragons for backup, thankfully.

Jamie Shred, if you'd rather do the marines, possibly just do the unit sergeant as a singleton? Granted not sure how much time that would save if you're intending on using bulk painting style.

Thanks for the suggestion Vejut but I have 10 in total to paint and haven't finished the smash captain and company vets I started back in April yet
I think these fit the theme well anyway, will post actual proof pics on Sunday.

Okay, so with it being up, up and away, can I make something that should have flown, but was stopped?
