Amazing stuff. I wish I had found this thread sooner, given some input as you were doing things. But I'm sure you're far from finished.

Humanoid limbs coming from the abdomen of the fiend definitely would give a creepy, faintly repulsive vibe that would work well with the elegance. So, perfectly slaaneshii as usual. I love the legs actually, the little patch of scale texture on the thighs just brings them to life. Are you keeping the back foot bulky where it touches the ground for balance purposes or is it still being worked on?

Thanks. I just like the name "flesh whip" all kinds of innuendo can be read into it. I think I'll paint the veins to a "throbbing" purple.

See there now we're talking. I want the hands to be kind of long, thin, and bony. Actually, I had the image of the Jabberwok from "Alice in Wonderland" in mind while working on it. The butt/pelvic region and torso are feminine and vaguely human, enough for a guardsman to be like "Oh Yeah!" then you look up from the jiggly bits at the rest and scream for your Emperor.

On the back foot I was waiting for the putty to setup. Once I pop it off the base I'll be doing quite a bit of carving on it. So, the ankle will be thinner when done.

A few miscellaneous suggestions, if I may?

You're going for a 'fall of the Eldar' sort of thing, yes? Well, I know the current Eldar are more restrained than the ones who initially ripped the galaxy a new Eye, but who's to say they're completely immune to their impulses, especially when helped a bit by Slaanesh's followers.

Perhaps have a unit of Banshees stripping off their armor, symbolically abandoning their lifes of devotion and balance, as they give in to their baser desires? Either as a counts-as unit or just as a diorama sort of thing.

Perhaps a helpless-looking Farseer as his retinue crumbles around him, 'turning' to the enemy's side in the same way as above?

You have some good options for terrain, too.
What would be more 'difficult' than trying to make your way across a field of others giving in to their carnal natures and begging you to join them? (well, okay, lava would be more difficult, but still..) I'd say the hesitation would warrant a difficult terrain test, definitely. Maybe have it only count as such for infantry, though, unless you want to say that tank drivers have a chance to veer away at the last moment to avoid plowing over such a lovely sight, falling into a ditch in their haste.
Perhaps some sort of tentacled field of doom and pleasure counting as dangerous terrain?

As for models to use, I'd look into the slaves from Asdrubael Vect's Pimpwagon. There are only two of them, but they'd look great on the bases of other, larger models, as parts of terrain, etc, and I'm sure you can do something with getting a few more poses out of them and such. And perhaps something can be done with the Daemonettes from last edition; personally, I think they look better, though as metal you have far fewer options for easy customization.

Hey Sersi, Definitely liking the new head with horns, probably my favorite of them sofar. My only dislike on that model is her hand that is grasping the whip, looks really small to me.

The fiend looks pretty cool sofar, looking forward to seeing the rest of it and then the other poses you come up with.

Keep on truckin'

Nightbringer's Chosen:

Those are some interesting ideas. My grinder is a corrupted/enslaved Farseer, perhaps I should fuse the retinue into the throne of the vehicle. Six members for for each of the legs. I like it! One its very Giger-esque. Two is similar to Lucius armor of trapped soul. Very, Slaaneshi and chaotic... Must sketch out these ideas.

I wonder if the Dark Eldar will have any models to filch. I've always loved that the Eldar have their own private Devil after them. The whole Eldar/Slannesh/Dark Eldar trinity is wonderfully fluff. Damn it now I wants some Eldar and Dark Eldar.

JMZ:

They do look kinda small but I wanted realist proportions rather that have ridiculously large toon hands like the GW KOS. I do have some bigger grasping hands I did a while ago and discarded....hmmm...I may have to look into that again. Thanks for the feedback.

Oh and I just bought this here:

Man, I just love harbor freight, seriously a 5 gallon paint pot for $80! My little 2 1/2 gallon pot cost that much. Strangely you can by both the 2.5 & 5 gallon pots for $80 a piece on their website...crazy.... Anyway I should have it in a few days. I'll document its re-purposing to the "dark Art" of miniature casting for the tutorial forum to when it arrives in a few days. I also got a 20 gallon air tank for silent air-brushing in the wee hours.

Anyway, I'm to sketch chaotic things for my Dark God...er...Goddess...

Wyches, perhaps, particularly the Succubus, maybe a couple of the named characters with some heavy modding. Though honestly, I'd say the Dark Elf (Fantasy) Witch Elves would be better, just toss in a few bits here and there to bring them into the 41st century. They could totally pass for Eldar that have shucked their armor. Could probably do something with their sorceresses, too. And the Dark Eldar models are...well, they feel like they're from the previous edition, quality- and style-wise.

Amazing work! I am truly in awe. Of your most recent work, I love the armor of the new DP so far! While I'm not as crazy about the hair as the tentacled one, its a nice alternate option to have when you don't want so many little things that could get broken should it be dropped. The horns remind me strongly of Hellboy, perhaps one of them could be broken? That might be a little bit too similar though. Maybe hanging jewelry between the two horns?

Another idea for you; rather than (or in addition to) having riders on steeds, or fiends, perhaps make some sort of medusa-esque hybrid? The upper bodies of daemonettes or witch elves on the lower bodies of steeds of Slaanesh or Raveners?
Being somewhat unfamiliar with the Demon armies, I'm not sure what you would want them to count as, but I'm sure you'd have plenty of options.

Wow, your skill, planning and imagination are to be honest a little daunting! I've been struggling on a fairly basic (by your standards) Marine scuplt for er...two weeks and I'm still not finished!

I think you could probably double your price on ebay also, that is very cheap (in my opinion - and I buy a lot on ebay).

Anyway! I'm just wondering how long each model is taking you? I guess in purely the construction work...

And...how long ago did you start doing sculpting work like this? Have you ever taken classes? The pregnant defiler - minus the legs etc...wouldn't look total out of place on a shelf in a 'normal house'...if you removed the claw marks also...

Excellent, mindboggingly good work! I will now look up your true scale marines. Sigh.

No, don't double your prices..!

Love the body on DP#3, the straps of cloth and the ring in the centre is really awesome. That sword is gorgeous. Really unsure whether I want the one running or the one crouching now, though the hand on the ground seems a bit off, though I can't put my finger on it, maybe the length of the fingers in relation to each other?

Talking about prices however, do you know when you will be putting up your eBay auctions again? It says you have no auctions at the moment.

Ohhh you done said it now..... Kidding...kidding... I actually have painted some Daemon Princess parts. I have tons of not so perfect casts, and several complete tester models. If not for the sucking I post ups some pics to quell the masses. The important thing <or so I tell myself> I am learning. But yeah I will try to post some whips this weekend! I swear!

I was going to do my gorgon like that at first, but honestly I then the more alluring with the chicken legs.

Ambull:

I'm really excited about the bigger pressure pot as it allows allot of things. Its huge! The dimensions are 14" diameter x 26-3/8" height. My older pot is only 10" diameter x 13" height. So twice as tall and a good deal wider. This is important because I want to get into 12"-24" figure kits. Oh, and at some point I'll be casting TS vehicles for my TS Marine projects, and titans etc, etc... I'll probably fit it with a removable rack of selfs so I can double and layer the molds. Whatever, i do with the thing you'll see it here on Dakka first.

Hits_the_spot:

Thanks! What's the saying, if its important to you you'll make the time for it.

Plankwalker:

Thank you.

manoknok:

Naaah! the price of the models is fine. That way their available to more players. The moneys nice of course but, I'm sinking most of it back into tools, and hobby related toys by the way. But mostly I put them out because people asked and Its just so cool that people want to buy them.

How long does it take to model? not very long really. I could probably do something comparable to the DP in a day at my current skill level, assuming that I had a good idea of what I want to do. But I tend to not waffle and noodle around rather than do detailed concepts first like I should. So, remove the large block of time that involve just sitting staring into space for inspiration I'm pretty fast. At work using Z-brush I totally own, but sculpting 8+ hours a day on the computer will do that for you. That and having a concept artist work everything out for you in advance really helps.

I have an art degree, but you can learn the most important thing in any good figure drawing class. Sculpting is just learning to see. Basically, you keep turning the model, while consulting you reference and correcting mistakes. When you don't see anymore you done...or you've been staring at the ting to long. That's were getting a second opinions really helps.

Here are some links to the books that have helped my most:

The first one pretty old but if you read it an apply it, it will teach you more about sculpting that most classes will; and you can't beat the price. The language is a little hard to understand as it a British and nearly 100 years old.

http://www.amazon.com/Modelling-Sculpting-Figure-Edouard-Lanteri/dp/0486250067/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1279866430&sr=8-5

This book is like a modern companion to the one above and the only I seen that teaches relief sculpture in an easy to understand and practical way. I also teaches correct seeing, and a how to properly apply scale. That and its not nearly as wordy as the book above, speaking on the subject plainly and concisely. I highly recommend it.

http://www.lulu.com/product/paperback/sculpting-from-life---a-studio-manual-of-the-sight-size-method/1340465

This is another classic, that will teach you reams on anatomy. I actually sculpted the project in the book and learned something new on every page.

http://www.amazon.com/Modeling-Figure-Clay-Sculptors-Anatomy/dp/0823030970/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_2

The same guy also tackles the head here.

http://www.amazon.com/Modeling-Head-Practical-Craft-Books/dp/0823030997/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1279866483&sr=8-23

I also like this one for polymer clay, I've chatted with author several times before online. She's a master sculptor and a real sweetheart.

http://www.amazon.com/Creating-Lifelike-Figures-Polymer-Clay/dp/0823015033/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1279866469&sr=8-2

Hope that helps!

LadyCassandra:

You have a good I good eye the that hand was really messed up so I've re-sculpted it. DP#3 with come with a couple of different options for that arm. One resting on the ground, one clutching a second weapon, and one just far enough off the ground to place a smooshed space marine under. I've also modified the head to fit her, so she's looking at her opponents rather than at than staring at her own boobs. I'm also adding belted scabbard for her sword and some cloth streamers to the rings on the sides of the legs, and a choker style collar, with a soul-stone pendant.

You scared me with the auction question... Their still up for another 8hrs at least. There one DP#2 left and six DP#1's. here are the links:

It's funny you should say that, because I think that very thing every time I post pictures. Yeah, I may have some hobby related self-esteem issues. But that's now surprise because their are some many great artists here. I don't even post on coolminiornot anymore for fear of getting a complex.

That sounds really awesome for the DP3, with the choker and a selection of arms and such. Definitely will get the crouching one I think, any tips on getting plastic dragon wings to warp without gassing myself?

The eBay auctions have definitely ended now, but I was getting an issue where if I clicked on ferrusangelus and then Items for Sale, it would say there were none available :\.

Saw one of your resin chicks at Wehrkind's house last week and I'm certainly considering picking up DP #3 ... $50 is a bit steep for a model I have no gaming plans for, but then again I could probably squish her into my CSM or something

At several points while reading I was talking to my screen and the wife is looking at me funny. Then she looked
She loves your work as well. She dropped her jaw when I showed her the quality of your work and Forge Worlds side by side. You are by far more organic and fluid. Your work is stunning.
Her jaw dropped when I showed her the price comparison as well.
If I may suggest one thing for your Soul Grinder.
Another post suggested a retinue, and I fully agree. But my idea is that they should be near the head, cradling and cooing to the daemon. Stroking her head and patting her shoulder. Perhaps even a retinue leader with a whip ready over the supplicants.
When you put her up for sale Im so there, and plan to coat her in as much watered down glue as possible for a wet and dripping OMG look.
The Soul Grinder is a Masterpiece, and if your looking for a name that wont make GW raise their brows at you. I would like to humbly suggest " Mother of Suffering".
Awesome work, Im going to go get some home stuff done I have neglected reading your thread, and then jump over to your other works.
Again simply stunning, I am a lifetime fan and prostrate myself before your vision.

At last the DP#3 is all cleaned up and nearly ready for casting:

Their are still a few minor details to clean up, such as the hand in contact with the ground, the alternate arms, and the choker collar. I'm switching to a ball and socket joint for the neck/head connection point, thats similar to what the plastic daemonettes have. While, not as anatomically correct it will allow the head to be posed more easily. Or you could use magnets so that the head would be pose-able.

Another turn-around with a different head:

Just showing off the body with an alternate head.

And lastly a picture with the scabbard:

While working on the scabbard it occurred to me that unless the thing was much larger that the actual sword, you could never pull the sword out. But that doesn't look nearly as cool, but she's a daemon, so maybe it phases through the scabbard or whatever...

Anyway, I'm off to work.

This may be a weird idea, but suppose the scabbard were made of "jellied" souls? That way, it could stretch to accommodate the weapon and allow a slick, swift draw?

Sersi, FYI, alot of the larger swords and bladed polearms of history didn't slide all the way out the top, often times the scabbards were open almost all the way down the back, so that the sword could be pulled out quicker. Hope that gives you an idea as to how you are going to mannage that thing on the ground.
