So I'm sure many of us have a dream collection/army that, with infinite time and money, we'd love to put together but haven't. Or perhaps you've started building your dream army and are part way through or maybe you've already found the glory of building it!


Here's a thread to share you ideas, dreams and, if you're lucky enough, your accomplishments!



Personally I've always found it terribly easy to get wound up in the lore and aesthetics of many of GW's armies (and indeed many other companies ones too). Though I've always wanted to build and field a full Imperial armoured force. Tanks backed up with more tanks and huge artillery whilst all supporting a Titan force marching forward. Deathstrikes firing off their massive rocks whilst manticors fire salvo after salvo of their own. Baneblades, shadowswords and more rumbling between the squads of tanks to provide earth shattering firepower to the front lines. Few troops and focusing on the steel and iron thundering forward. Indeed I sort of got a bit close to this through Epic when it started, but never got very far (and then it died). 40K would be far more impressive, if a vast increase in costs and time. Heck even in Epic rolling forward with 40 or more lemon russ wouldn't have been cheap (and certainly wasn't to a young me way back then).

1st current ongoing sort/mid term- Eldar army full of exodites and awesome conversions including lots of FW- This is in progress and coming along nicely and is my current army so all the focus and resources is going here.

2. Mid term goal- A BT & DA / Tau forces converted and painted up including some of the preator models and FW toys. Not developed to the same degree as the eldar going to be. Just some fluffy units mish mashed together (he says.. and 10 years later will have 20k pts of SM lol)

3. Display quality painted HW army. (Thanks to you I have secured the core components!) I always wanted to do a campaign narrative style WHFB and one of my dreams is to run "Last charge of the dragon riders" vs Chaos. Theidea is to have Imrik, Arsnali Dragon lord and forest dragon plus the dragon mage vs a horde of chaos/deamons.

4. Make a couple of dioramas once my skills are up to par..

Five years ago I wanted a collection of Thousand Sons, Genestealer Cult, and Sisters of battle with better sculpts and just assumed it'd never happen. I have been a very busy boy these last couple years after getting back into the hobby, and found out my personal painting standard is... ridiculous. But I'm proud of each and every 5 to 9 point miniature that I finish painting. May goal has been a mass cult of god awful amount of points, the horde of neophytes that refuse to die out completely before achieving their goals, waves of Acolytes to pop out of no where, and cult limos... that don't really exist sadly, so instead mining vehicles bouncing out of random places to throw specialist troops at the enemy.

The recent release has given me back a hobby I'd bounced off of a few times because my favorite factions had long since been forgotten. Thankfully the time investment in painting each miniature makes the rather absurd cost of some of them feel worth it, and I've only been supported in my work given my Magus won a local painting competition. It's been great to build out the army I imagined when I was a kid.

I remind myself of that every time I'm sitting there trying not to screw up the little ribbed muscle sections in literally every acolyte's arms.

But, new kill team coming together, an absolute swarm of metamorphs and some acolyte specialists with the nexos and his happy bullet sponges that happen to have some guns.

Some day everything I have will be painted, and that day will have absolute hordes of... more acolytes to paint. But some day I'll have a whole pile of dice to bounce off someone's storm shield.

I was once actively attempting to collect one of every resin 40k model from the early 90's (Armorcast, Epicast, Forgeworld USA). About 10 years ago I snagged an unreleased Epicast knight on ebay for $20.

The only things I have to track down are the unreleased Ork Squiggoth, and the Armorcast Warlord titan. Admittedly the Warlord will be needle in a haystack to find.


Other long-term goals is to finally create my 40K scale starship. Something that would be the 40k equivalent of a skiff or river patrol boat. Literally the smallest a vessel could be while still being called a "ship". I'm thinking about a meter long and would be crewed by 30 guys. Something with the feel of a WWII U-boat.

I'm A completist (unfortunately) so my pipe dream would be to have a large collection of each faction for both 40k and Fantasy. I’m kind of close with Fantasy. 40k is another story.

I really love the lighter IG vehicles and conversions of them (like the different wheeled chimera variants and counts as Chimeras of various third party companies) and especially both Tauros variants. Also the OOP Sentinel variantes like the Powerlifter and the Support Sentinel

If time and money where unlimited (and if the Tauri were not out of production) I would really want to see an fully assembled and painted army of a 9Tauri, wheeled Chimeras and Salamander Scout Tanks as well as 9 Scout, Armoured, Power Lifter and Support Sentinelns each on the tabletop. They will most likely loose terribly, but I would love to see that as it woul look so much different than the usual IG parking lot.

I’d love to build a mega gargant and field it. Not an army as such, more like an army of one.

I’ve even got a bunch of old military kits to use as parts for the guns, turrets and track units - the issue is finding the time...

One of my dream armies has always been a 30k expeditionary force themed around the Rangdan Xenocides. Dark Angels as the core (a little from each of the 6 wings, but a focus on the Dreadwing) and Lion el'Jonson, allied in House Vyronii Knights and a Legio Gryphonicus Warhound as the big centrepiece models. I sold most of my 30k models from when I originally played, with only one character remaining, but I always dream of one day going back and collecting up the army as I always wanted it

My dream armies were always things that were part of 40k but never existed as armies: Deathwatch and Skitarii being the two big ones among them.

Then GW went and made them into armies.

Well... I had 'em before it was cool.

I tend to like having a serious and silly army for each game I play. For 40k, my main dream is a large Inquisition force made up of mostly DW, Sisters, and GKs. I'd also love a proper Ork force, though as its not my primary game I'm probably not going to get to it any time soon. I've got a pretty complete Sylvaneth army but would like some Gitz and maybe Ironjawz. I like a lot of the AoS armies, but find them kind of repetitive to collect as an army.

My dream is really that kind of collection across a variety of game systems. Infinity, Malifaux, Warmachine, Monsterpocalypse, Batman, etc are all great little systems to have options to play. Getting them all painted is just the primary issue.

I dream of being able to paint at meta-speed (not for 40k, I reckon I could bang out a load of Eldar flyers at a rate)

and having my Circle army for Hordes all painted as for someone who doesn't like painting skin I choose poorly with that faction (I blame the Warpwolves)

A magnificent craftworld with a Slayer-sword winning Wraith Knight, whose pose would put even Jain Zar to shame.

Thousand Sons would be the runner up!

I have always wanted a traitor guard army full of wacky and wild Lost and the Damned.

I have also always wanted an Italian Operation: Compass themed force for WWII ( a period I do not even currently play!)

Next, I wished to create a themed set of armies for a Minnesota/Dakota War of 1862 along with my own customized rule set to go with it.

These are always lurking in the background of my brain, and someday I might just do them.....

Ongoing is my Deathguard which I never knew I wanted until GW did the new kits and now I'm hooked on decay and slowly expanding things, into an army with a coherent paintscheme, basing etc

(I also collect Orks, but I feel happier doing them as smaller groups so they never really look like an army as the paint & bases don't tie together so well)

My other dream army would be a Harlequin troop with intricate patterned suits in bright colours as shown in the art, I could just about do the vehicles with stencils and an airbrush but to do the minis in the way my imagination says they should be done is beyond my paintbrush skills so it's not going to happen

A proper WHFB horde army or three, for me and my pals to play with.

When I started playing IG in 2003, I kept buying, stripping, cleaning, and repainting models for most of the last 16 years. I'm now looking at either a combined arms regiment, or a full armored battalion, with three LRBT companies, a mechanized company, and tons of support. I'm working on some of the last models I have unpainted, and then I'll take more pictures, but I've got some out of date group shots here:



Going forward, I'd like to finish that project, which involves a few more chimeras, some more Valkyries, one more Kasrkin squad, and more baneblades. Of course, I still have tons of imperial allies to add (knights, sisters, custodies).

On the opposite side, one dream of mine is to build a Grand Army of Chaos: Demons, CSM, renegade Guard, Knights, the whole lot. I want the army to be centered on Slaanesh, with purple as a primary color on urban rubble bases.

Holy moly Polonius - now that is a dream army!

I want a full infantry battalion of PLASTIC Steel Legion, and an accompaniment of a full armored battalion. With it, I want PLASTIC Grimaldus' warband, their Land Raider and a Tunderhawk.

Always wanted a big army of Arbites in monopose metal like the whole force is standing in formation.

No seriously I decided to do it last year and got really lucky on ebay.

Given unlimited time and bucks I'd want to do a 4'x8' table diorama of a Tau Manta and Orcas (OOP, I know) doing a low altitude drop of Devilfish and Crisis Suits onto a forest in support of a Kroot army battling Orks.

A diorama of the full Angels of Vengeance Dreadwing and Dark Angels Deathwing with support vehicles cracking the fortress of Dominus prime should be something like 350 terminators along with characters siege weapons( what was that land raider with the demolished cannon called) And A smattering of traitor guard to make it look cool.

(unless of course you are also waiting until anvil throws out wave 2 of their renegade line?)

My dream collection is really just my current collection/plan, but, you know, more so. Currently I have Slaanesh Daemons, Renegades and Heretics and Heretic Astartes and the plan is to add more of all of those plus some Knights and maybe a Warhound Titan.

That tops out at 12k, so I guess the dream would be that, but taken up to like 100k and turned up to 11.

Real horrorshow.

Hey, we beat the Sisters by like...a month.

I want to recreate my Squat biker gang, but first I need to finish my 40k "scale" Landtrain.

My Salamanders to be at least 2 full companies worth (1st & 3rd) mixed Astartes & Primaris with the associated named vehicles. I'm currently about halfway to my goal.

Wouldnt mind a full heavy armour IG tank Column. 2 Baneblade chassis Platoons, Support vehicles, mechanized troops & artillery support. This is about the only way IG appeals to me.

I would really like it if the 30k Mechanicum stuff had 40k rules so I had an excuse to bulk out my Admech & Knights.

Full on Gnoblar army from White Dwarf that came out...oh jeez, YEARS ago.

Something like 300+ models, a huge horde stretching a whole table.

I've just acquired the last few odds and ends (mostly terrain) I needed to have all the ingredients for a dream I'd had since discovering miniatures as a child:

2000pts Aliens
2000pts Colonial Marines (including Dropship, APCs etc)
2000pts Predators

6x4 table based on LV-426


Now I just have to build and paint it all, which should keep me busy for a year or two.

I’ve always collected/built/painted organically without a plan. Just slowly added, with no end in sight. The closest I had to a “dream” was the push to a full battle company of marines. Another was being able to field the full matrix of HQ with all their armor/deployment options (jump/bike/foot/TDA) Did that.

I’d love to have 3 of everything. Or at least more depth. I’ve got one pred, one vindi. Not that I want to spam, but for themed lists, redundancy is nice. But new shinies always trump another <blank>.

None of the FW things for marines really appeal to me. Sure a fellblade could be cool, and the sicarians are nice, but most of the FW stuff for my marines I can pass on.

My eldar dream of plastics. I could use a few more tanks, but I really want 1-2 squads of all the aspects. But finecast is NOT a good match for the eldar aesthetic. If I won the lotto, so many FW grav tanks would join my army.
