So the Onyx cards you get regardless of if you buy the reinforcement pack right? Have a feeling that it will be cheaper to buy those minis elsewhere instead of via the kickstarter.

So yea? An alternate part but CB has said you cannot buy extra copies of the hero model so this is basically a throwaway SG. I know Carlos said not to expect much from the SG earlier but this is a really underwhelming campaign even with low expectations. If I could pick up the core box at retail with a standard discount I'd drop out.

Monkeysloth its just alternative version. And I like that more. If in hobby Mate, you can find use for extra upper body. Like magnets, blue stuff cast or canibalize other mini and build you own. Fun stuff.

It's actually half of the actual model looking at the break down animation. Really kind of odd that CB couldn't just give you the legs too. Modifying metal minis is my least favorite part of this hobby, magnetizing them is also a pain.

I guess my issue with the game is things that would make this more replayable (extra missions and tiles) so far CB has said are post kickstarter if the KSer does as well as they hope. I don't understand that logic if this game won't be sold after the KSer. Plus they said pre-kickstarter you can pick up any infinity model and use it in the game but they haven't addressed that all so far. You think that would be a big selling point. Add that the only existing models they've shown as usable so far require SGs to unlock the cards for and I'm worrying that CB is just planning on dragging out SGs as cards that should just be a optional purchase deck for each faction and token upgrades--which are nice--but aren't needed and don't give you more to play.

The collector's foam is actually a pretty nice freebe and probably one of the first that signals that they're wanting this to be a boardgame and not just a way to sell a Sectorial to existing infinity players.

They've also stated they're going to have a way, probably PM, to get extra parts of the heroes so you can build each version. Happy to see that.

So from the comments they've stated that extra missions will be released in digital for based off of demand. So I expect at least a few over a year after release but if they don't see enough social media presence or downloads they may just stop.

Honestly this didn't need to be a KSer and just gives them an excuse to sell something outside of retail with FOMO so they don't have to keep a stock. At the price they're charging, $200, pretty much all the SG should have been included from the get go.

Infinity has great fluff but it can be a big annoying to read sometimes due to how the present it all "in world" as reports and such. The newer books are much better as they tone down that aspect for a pretty good balance of in world and just presenting information.

It's designed to fit in one of the boxes that the game comes in.

I looked on amazon, and The Hjman Sphere seems prohibitively expensive. The core rulebook looks to be $15–does that include the background? And how unreadable are we talking?

Is there a cheaper Modiphius book with a good overview?

I believe the player's guide has a decent chunk of info and it's a $12 PDF (I don't have a copy downloaded on my onedrive so I can't check to see). But I have extra copies of the core rules set and human Sphere set I bought years ago on a dirt cheap sale back when my friends played and I don't even think we opened them due to just using the wiki. They're a bit heavy and contain a rulebook and fluff book for each set but if you want to cover shipping they're yours as the sets are just taking up space on a shelf ATM. The core book isn't really unreadable persay but is so over the top on in world presentation you're getting a lot of context switching in a single topic and example would be part of a news article on Maya (Aleph controlled internet) then maybe some classified Pano report then maybe something from the nomads underground internet. All cutting you off in odd places like you're only reading part of an article/letter then jumping to another viewpoint on the same topic. It can get pretty tiring. Later books, as stated, are much better how the handle the inworld presentation of info dumps.

The Modiphius RPG for Infinity also has quite a bit of lore in it. Haven't read them, so I don't know if it just retreads the other stuff.

The RPG core book has some new stuff mostly around O-12 (several pages) but a lot of it is basically refining what's in the core book and HS for the RPG crowd and slightly expanding on it. An example would be the RPG Books have brief sections on each planet (maybe a paragraph or three) and a sentence or two up to half that info is new. The Splat Books are hit or miss and think due to the complains about the first on Aridna they've been taking more effort on all of those but Guiteir (SP?) is a huge backlog for them as I think all we've seen in the past 5 months is Yu-Jing as he has to approve everything. But I have all the currently available stuff as a KSer backer and can answer questions to see if you want to buy one of the books.

If you watch holiday sales you should be able to get a lot of the reinforcements piecemeal for a good price.

I believe there were some hints early on this might be an option as one of the BoW vidoes did say you can use any infinity miniature in Defiance and I would be surprised if spec ops rules didn't make it in. CB has stated multiple times in the comments they're also looking into providing a app or website like army for building content for the game which if they did would also probably have rules for making new characters.

At the end of the day the purpose of this KSer is to get people who like inifinity models/setting but don't want to play the wargame a way to use what figures from the line they like -- so basically selling things outside of the KSer.

I took from the videos that all the models in this game would be usable in Infinity, not the other way around. But I could have missed a video (I am a bit busier these days than usual, so less time for Youtube). If you've got this, link it?

It was in one of the BoW/OnTabeltop videos where Carlos and Warren were talking about being able to go to a gamestore and buy any infinity model that just looked cool and being able to use it in Defiance.

CB has gotten a lot better about translations, the last few books have been great fluff wise. I just think that their rule writing in Spanish must just be bad and confusing. So unless they allow the translator to completely rewrite said rules you'll always have that side to CB.

Wow. 70 Euro for an expansion with 6 missions and 8 minis.

That's an embarrassment.

for 70% of the core game price you're getting 6 missions vs 12 and 6 tiles vs 16. For as much as this game is costing I expect way more total hours of playtime.

Apparently outcast doesn't come with all the minis you need it has tokens for a bunch of PanO stuff.

I'm begining to think the whole "Buy any Infinity mini and use it in Defiance" line will only count for the people that spend like $500 on it to get all the cards scattered around the expansions.

I feel like that was obvious from the beginning. You pretty much need cards (heavy iconography use precludes the use of text). They could potentially make a PDF with printable cards, but I had assumed that they would at least release card packs for stuff like Operation Wildfire. They seem to be rolling these into the expansions, which makes sense because there isn't a random mission generator, so they need to design new missions that use those units. Putting new models and making it almost $80 is the only real surprise.

I wouldn't expect too many expansions. Creating a new pledge level with a bonus mini says to me that they probably aren't going to be flooding the add-ons with expansions.

They've so far only confirmed two expansions. I'd be surprised if there were four and give a 3rd a 50/50.

As for the use any mini since they were talking about it in various interviews I assumed that meant they'd have a create a character option but they clearly don't and they've now said that there won't be one during the campaign but they might make something post campaign. Same think with build your own campaign. I think both are likely but it's odd that they would bring up that the purpose of this game is to get people who like infinity to buy their favorite models and have a way to use them but then not. I was a fool to believe Carlos as this is clearly another one of his exaggerations and a large reason I'm grumpy about this KSer. It's pretty bad when your brand ambassador who is your main way of marketing can't be believed. But that's par the course with CB and Carlos.

I'm down to a 1 euro pledge now. If things look more inline with this being an actual boardgame and not just a way to sell infinity the wargame once things are all done I might back as the pledge manager is supposed to be open for several months.

It's really strange to have so many different two player starters. I know in the BoW interview about N4 SKU bloat was a huge concern with retailers so it wouldn't surprised me if they just had one N4 2-player starter and all the Operation boxes went away.

There's still a lot of odd sentence constructions and word choices that are probably perfectly fine in Spanish, but come across a bit wonky in English. It does make reading some rules rather hard going IME.

That's why I added fluff. Their rules are still hard to follow sometimes.

I think the two player starters are Infinity's biggest sellers by a country mile. I'd expect the rest of the line to be culled before the Operation boxes.

I guess it is possible that the older ones will go out of print once every faction is represented (are we there already? Tohaa vs Mercenaries?), possibly being replaced by new ones. So, maybe an Operation Icestorm N4 with new PanO/Nomad sculpts and terrain for N4.

They've also talked about SKU bloat before, so I'm expecting more bundles like the Operation / Army Packs / 300 pt boxes going forward and less individual models.

Because their the best deal and have good selection of starter minis for a faction. Regardless of sales if retailers push back they're going to have to do something else. CB really wants to be in gamestores. I'm in an area with lots of game stores (I drive past 3 on my 15min drive to work, going 15 min the other way is the same number) and the only Infinity stuff is N2 and a few operation boxes (mostly icestorm). And half don't even carry the line (not counting stores that don't carry minis).

They've said you have to get at least the base pledge to get any add-ons but you can do $1 and upgrade to a full pledge in the pledge manager which sounds like will be open till april-ish.

The FAQ was updated yesterday. It says the pledge manager will open in January for about a month.

That sucks. They said at least three months in the comments a while ago.

This means I'm pretty much out. It's going to cost around $400 after shipping for all the kser exclusive stuff and it's hard to justify that cost as just a board game and not a supplement for Infinity as I will never end up playing the war game again--my group is pretty turned off on it. Maybe if the game was amazing like KD Monster or Gloom haven but it's a pretty basic game, nothing wrong with that, but it's limited replayability for me and low number of missions makes the price a hard pill to swallow. If the manager was open longer around when I get my bonus I might decide to just go for it. But closing in February is way before that.

I suspect CB is hoping that's not what happens and instead just entices people with a base pledge to move up to Platinum.

Years? What's the timeline for this story. Are they really going to jump way ahead of the main game or is N4 also going to jump way past N3's timeline?

I wouldn't be surprised to see these reinforcement packs as part of new army boxes for N4. If CB is serious about reducing how many things a store needs to carry for N4 having real army boxes instead of battle boxes would be the way to go.
