Locked in the Tower of Amareo
|
This came to my email box. Not big of a surprise but now it's official.
Wherever you are in the world right now, we hope you’re all well and staying safe.
Last month we let you know that, owing to the COVID-19 situation, Games Workshop sites around the world would be closed until at least April 14th. Since then, we have been closely monitoring the situation and continuing to follow advice from the authorities here in the UK and overseas. We are committed to only opening when we are certain it's safe to do so and in line with the government’s full guidelines. Regrettably, this means Games Workshop sites won’t be re-opening on April 14th and will remain closed until further notice.
While we know this isn’t the news you wanted to hear, the health and safety of all of you, and all of Games Workshop’s staff, remains our number one priority.
Rest assured, however, good news is right around the corner. There’s a dedicated team working their socks off to make sure that as soon as we can, we’ll be up and running again able to ship you that pot of Nuln Oil you’re desperate for.
For now though, for all of us, the mission remains the same – bunker down, and stay safe!

Huh. I hadn't realized they'd been dumb enough to put an end date on it in the first place. I'd always assumed 'indefinite until safe' was the actual plan

A lot of people in the UK (mostly employers) though that next week would be the last week of lock-down, but it's now clear we've got a few more weeks of it as least.

Well. Main uk gov got surprised when wales declared extension of lockdown. Uk gov will be holding meeting over wether to continue lockdown next week as per original plan.
Gw seems to have taken initiave before goverment said anything

The govt just said they'd review it this Thursday, I don't think they ever realistically thought they'd be able to lift the restrictions,
but it's a lot easier to get the public to accept a 3 week lock down than until further notice, we've no idea when you'll get your lives back, which can then be extended as people get used to living inside

There is going to be a period of about 3-4 months after this is over, that there where be no new hobbysupplies for a bit.

To be fair, they'd be posting an explosive all the way from Georgia, USA, so the postage is justified, and given Amazon has automatic price adjustment algorithms, there's a fair chance that the seller has no concept that their one can of blue paint has had its price adjusted to the point of lunacy.
So maybe don't be Judge Judy and executioner without all the facts?

It is (self evidently I'd have thought?) but it's one of those more famous "things stupid people done said."

Well I certainly figured there would be a delay to getting everything re-opened. I'm glad I have a stock pile of stuff to work on honestly....it' just too bad I'm "essential" and haven't been able to paint.

I assume they won't be releasing the digital copy of engine war as they don't want to take the hit on the stock they already have printed not being sold (as more people would buy the digital copy instead)... If this prolongs into the late summer though, are they really going to be able to hold back every release, and if they do, will they delay everything down the line or release everything in huge batches to get caught up?
There's positives and negatives to each approach, however a huge negative to their current tactic is people giving up on the hobby.... It's going to happen with sports where people are wising up and have attained new found clarity that they are just a cash cow for the sport (this is happening specifically with football in the UK, where many people are starting to see the light), and the same could happen with GW. It is an expensive hobby, some people may figure it's too expensive for them at the end of the summer, whether they can afford it or if they cannot due to financial hardship brought on by the pandemic. Without anything new to tide them over in the short term, effectively enforced cold turkey, will people figure it's not worth it to them.
A lot of people won't do that mind, but a significant amount could. I assume a lot of businesses are in the same boat, the fashion/clothing industry seems to be having a complete meltdown as it seems every company has some crazy sale on at the moment.

It's good to see that gw is taking their employees and the public's safety seriously, unlike many non essential businesses here in the states who refuse to close because their afraid to lose a buck.

Non essential stores around here are pretty much all closed. I was talking about non essential manufacturing, as even with confirmed cases many continue to chug away.

Our furloughs here are aimed at ending end of July and going to potentially October. I would anticipate most of the world will be locked down for a similar amount of time.

Do yourself a favour and watch Hot Fuzz whilst you're in quarantine!
Ahem, more on topic - there's a still quite a few sites that have a fair bit of GW stuff in stock in the UK. Paints seem easier to find to be honest, though I've not looked for the spray cans.

Well.Judge Judy actually acts as an arbitrator on her show, so she herself is basically a "jury" for all intents and purposes.
However my guess is he just made a joke that it sounds similar.
