The chance to combine the quintessential strategy board game with the far future of the 41st millennium has finally arrived, and countless hours of enjoyment for fans of both of these world-renowned properties await. Dominate your opponents in battles set during the War of Beasts across Vigilus and control the far future this fall with RISK: Warhammer 40,000!
The latest product of The Op’s continuing partnership with Games Workshop, which brought another classic to dark science-fantasy fans with MONOPOLY: Warhammer 40,000, this meticulously detailed version of Risk is also based in the dark regions of space and set in the coveted territory nestled between the two halves of the Imperium. Vigilus is at the mercy of five warring Factions: Ultramarines, Orks, Chaos Space Marines, Aeldari Craftworlds, and Genestealer Cults, each represented by tokens for their Leaders and custom game pieces for their single and triple-threat units.
To name a few, Marneus Calgar leads the Ultramarines with individual Primaris Intercessors and Repulsor battle tanks as their three-unit pieces. The Aeldari Craftworlds faction, led by an Autarch, has Guardians at attention with Falcons as their tanks. A Magus’s Genestealer Cult boasts weapon-wielding Acolytes and heavily armored Goliath Rockgrinders. All five factions’ Leaders have various special abilities, while armies are deployed with daring attacks and defense at the roll of custom red and black dice. Players gain Reward Cards for completing objectives, allowing the acquisition of additional armies and providing strategic advantages. Conquer not only three objectives, but total control of all territories to win “Total Domination”!
RISK: Warhammer 40,000 is for 2-5 players, ages 10 and up. Pre-order it for $49.99 from your favorite local game store and prepare to vanquish foes across 40 treacherous locations! Follow The Op on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for news, photos, and game reviews when the risks and rewards of galactic domination become a reality for Warhammer 40,000 fans this fall!

Looks decent. I think HH may have been a better setting, and tbh, given the source material and assets, they maybe could have had some better art/design in there (the maps are just coloured blobs and the cards don't seem to be the best of GrimDark imo), but still, nice.

Basically, yes, a great tool for a Vigilus campaign. Pick up some epic pieces for more customization of units....good to go.

I hope it’s cheap enough to buy just to use the tokens for 6mm games or as statues on BFG ships.

Will echo the Vigilus comments, if cheap enough will make for a good tool for campaign tracking, though I do lament the lack of a lot of the smaller locations that dot the wastes in between the sprawls, like the many Ork crash sites turned into outposts.

I don't see an Australia-style choke point. I can't decide if that's good or bad.

Hmmm. The pieces seem better designed to tumble and bounce erratically in a fashion most likely to lose pieces via skittering under couches and cabinets when the board is flipped during the traditional, climactic family-scream-out that ends every game of Risk.
Not having the choke point of rage-tears seems like an odd oversight in light of this.

Not that I ever played a huge amount of Risk, but have they done different maps before? Because that could be a big selling point even to non-40k fans.

Best risk version was risk 2210. I hope they do something similar to that.

I'd wait for the all the faction codex releases and faqs before buying, but the 2nd edition will get released just after that.

There was of course Risk: LotR, which was pretty fun. Risk 2200 or whatever had extra spaces I think in both the ocean and nearby outer space. Last time I touched that was Fanime 2010 though so my memory is foggy.

I also have the Star Wars:Clone Wars risk which has quite a number of new rules, like space ships upgrading dice to d8, calling order 66 to randomly take over armies and Anakin cards working differently depending on whether you are before or after order 66 and a whole new map where pretty much every "continent" can be attacked from at least two others.
|
7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |
