Hey there !

Haven't post on this forum in quite some times...
Though, during Corona Lockdown I went back to an old love of mine, my old DKoK army that has been sitting in a cabinet for a few years, with more un-painted, un-built stuff in a box stored under commissions.

It feels, good, I'm happy, and I want to share it with you

So this all started about ten years ago when young me bought his first two squad of infantry and a command squad at a french games day ( when those were still happening over here ) since, it's been growing slowly but surely up to the point when commissions took all my time and I had to put my own armies/painting project to a hold.
Started with turquoise trench coat and rubble bases, to then be stripped and re-painted years later as what they are now, grey/blue and marshland bases.

To this day, their only win was... a gold medal at army on Parade a few years ago.

But enough talk, lets get to the pictures !

What better way to start that the big boom boom ?
Rightfully named, the earthshaker.

Hoping you like what you saw

Sure do, that's a great battery. The basing works well too, giving the whole a nice diorama look.

Thanks a lot Sherry !

Yes the base was made as a display board for army on Parade back in 2016 ! Unfortunately it didn't stand the passing of time, if I ever present this army again, I'll have to do a new, better one hehe.

SO.
Since we were having a bit of artillery fun....
Here comes more ! Because a Krieg army without artillery is not a Krieg army.

I introduce, the heavy mortars !

And with that, a modified chimera, made to look like a mini macharius.

And my heavy stubbers teams :

Well, that's it for this time, hope you like it

These look fantastic!

If you don't mind me asking, how did you do the bases on these guys? I've been trying to find a suitably muddy/wet basing style for the traitor guard army I started way back when, and sadly never had any luck.

Just my 2 cents

I also would love to see a tutorial/how-to on the bases

Hey thanks a lot both of you

It's pretty easy yet very time consuming, I almost spend more time on the bases than on the models haha.

Once the model is painted, glued on the base and varnished.
Mix PVA, soft sand ( or dirt for the yard is even better as you get small twig in it ), dark brown, gloss varnish, static grass and some leaves into a rather thick paste and apply that thickly on your base.

Get some small twig, dip them in PVA and press them into that mess then let everything dry overnight.

Then next day drill some small holes through the basing material and the base to add the tall grass.
The tall grass itself is made out of cheap large brush hair that are cut, dipped in PVA and placed into previously drilled holes.

After that, I dry brush some parts with two different greens for the moss, glue some leaves here and there ( I use gloss varnish as an adhesive ) and finally I fill up some of the crevasses with more gloss varnish to make little pounds / pools.

Of course if you simply want to make mud it will be a lot easier and faster as you simply have to follow the first and last step.
Get the mixture, let it dry, apply gloss varnish, done.

I love the minis and the theme!

Did you do something similar to your basing technique to get the "muddy" weathering effect on the wheels of the big guns? It looks great!

Indeed, mixed a bit of the special mixture described above, applied that on the wheels / tracks and pressed a few leaves dipped in a bit of varnish ( for adhesive purposes ).

These are looking fantastic, I'll be following this for sure. The colours and basing really suit the models, and I love the weathering on the earthshakers. Nicely done!

New update back from 20...16 haha

So... This was how the army was looking back then :

Three infantry squads
One grenadier squad
One command squad
One Death rider squad
Three team of heavy stubbers
One chimera
And not on the picture Three Earthshaker + Three heavy mortars + crews

It was at this time that I decided to start competing to army on parade.
So this year I learnt the about AoP date... Two days before in the evening. Meaning I had to put a display board together in just one day with only what I had in the workshop.

So after an entire day from 9am to about 11pm using an old white board as a base, I put this thing together :

And this is what it looked like back home after they got rewarded with a gold medal :

My thanks to you

Now...
One of my absolute favorite sculpt of the 41 millenium is for Forgeworld... From the Death Korps of Krieg army. It's a fest attack and is in fact two living being on the same base.
I'm talking about... The death riders !

So I went a bit crazy on them...
I put together two entire squads of ten
A command squad
A commissar

For a total of 26 war ponies. And I regret nothing !

Yeah... I went a bit crazy as I said haha

Yeah... I went a bit crazy as I said haha

As a mainly chaos focused player i maybee not an institution on such things but there's no such thing as too many big guns or too many riders.

GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"

Thanks guys !

I don't play much due to... living in the middle of absolutely NOWHERE ( seriously, there are no big cities closer than an hour dive.

Though I put a 5 man squad on the table once... It didn't even make it to close combat ... Dem damn necrons thinking themselves as Jesus.

Alright, new update !

So, after a few games it was evident that my army was lacking amour forces.
Considering I already had a few waiting for painting, I order two more Leman russ and got to it when Covid quarantine started in france.

So here we go

Base coats ( 2 days ) :

Light airbrushed weathering ( a few hours ) :

More weathering ( acryclics + oils ) :

Almost there !

Almost !

Annnd there we are ! After 5 entire days of painting

I finally have a decent pool of vehicles ready for the front lines
