So I've been building some Orks over the last couple of weeks and it turns out they're probably the most fun to build faction.

Started off with this big guy.

Actually checked to see if a warboss could take on a knight in melee before tossing that gauntlet on him.

Next was a weirdboy.

Taking ideas from Librarians, and fun fact his cape comes from the Karl Franz kit.

And currently working on this guy who is probably going to be the warlord as I don't have a clear plan in my head for how I'm going to build these guys, but random conversions have been fun so maybe a dread waaagh is a good direction. Either way already decided on going with the deathskulls kultur cause I like the rerolls and would like a save against bolter fire.

And here's da souped up shokka relic for him.

Kind of looks like mega armour, but I wanted to go with the idea that he's basically entirely cybork after some probably crazy mek stuff backfired on him.

Also have a burnabomba, 10 shoota boys with a kombi rokkit nob to lead them and 5 big choppa nobs built. Also a Morkanaut and another 10 shoota boys waiting for me to get around to building them.

Finished painting the first two boys, but waiting on some grass tufts to arrive to finish their bases.

Going to try to go with a sort of dried out mudlands desert base instead of the usual more yellow sandy kind. Also experimenting with contrast paints to speed it up. The black leather is painted up in brown like the pants first then I give it a layer of contrast black templar.

Also finished the big mek which is probably going to be the warlord.

That's a cool conversion. Somewhat impractically large, but that's definitely okay for orks. Are the boyz up above deathskullz or goffs? or are you going with homebrew clan?

Nice.

Orcs are one of those factions that calls out to the kitbashing and converting side of me. One of the drawbacks of playing Ultramarines is that there is not a huge amount of room to go wild with the clippers and the plasticard. With the greenskins, it’s encouraged. Always interesting to see what comes out of the mekshop.

n0t_u,

Not sure if you have considered this for your Boyz, but a wash of Agrax Earthshade on the entire model can tie it together and mask any little blead-overs of painting edges between colours. Also fits the Orks very well. I only had to highlight the green skin before applying the wash to most of my later Orks which saved time when painting a horde army. Just a suggestion.

My two cents,

Thanks, they've been really fun to throw together cause whatever goes as long as it still makes some sort of sense as to what it's meant to be.

I'm going with a homebrew clan, but using the deathskull kultur though. Haven't worked out a name yet.

I might try agrax on the next one. I usually do the agrax wash to tie in highlights a bit but avoided it with these cause I really wanted to have the skin really bright and actually used athonian camoshade all over the model instead to try to keep it lighter. I don't mind if they all look a little different while I try to figure it out more, makes the horde look more interesting.

At the moment the skin is rhinox hide spray then based with caliban green, 2 thin coats of moot green to make the colour solid, camoshade wash, then moot green highlights. I can't remember which but one of them I think I highlighted a bit better and focused more on the raised edges instead of just avoiding the recesses. Darkening for the eyes is a biel tan green wash, then drakenhof nightshade wash.
