Seriously, this stuff is amazing. While I liked much of the art from the previous codex, this stuff I think is a lot more terrifying than what came before. There are few neon greens around, but simply grim industrial rust mixed with a sickly yellow that conjures up rot and pollution. The first picture almost reminds of me the pre-Heresy DG. I hope more of the art is like this:

Love all of it. There was an era there where the quality of the art was still high but everything felt very bright and didn't evoke the same feel as the old classics.
This is much more my preference.

The use of the less cartoony green is helpful.

Yeah, I dig it. Hope we see similar art for all of the Legions in the other codexes.

These are very evocative and are unsettling in a way that feels like the old lost and the damned book. Doesn’t reach that level fully, but it’s quite good.

Definitely a step away from "every art is a precise CGI recreation of an existing model" and towards the old-school anarchic bizarreness of earlier edtions.
If only they could also do some black-and-white art again.

Yeah, that would be nice interspersed with the colour/painted works. The DG art is sick*, that one of them wading through the water is brilliant. You can almost feel them coming for you. Any idea who the artists are? I’m not au fait with the current art team.
In general I think the new art is pretty good, there’s some very nice stuff in the BA Codex Supplement too.

I have to agree, the art in 9E has been excellent. Can't wait to see what else comes out.

Absolutely. Was thumbing through my 9th ed Necron codex again last night thinking this exact thing. So far they really look to be upping their game with the art (which is really saying something because they've always been one of the industry leaders in that regard).
Some of the art in the 8th ed codexes felt rushed to me. You could see the places where the artist was looking to spend just a little more time but an editor snatched it off them for publishing before they were ready. This is a fact of life in the business, but there was some stuff in 8th that really stood out. So far a lot of what I've seen feels very much like a return to form. Exciting to see!

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..." |

Seen that artwork on the warcom website, I particularly liked the bottom one which is particularly nashty.
My only 9th ed book is the hardback rulebook from the indomitus box and I really like the artwork they have in there. Good mix of older, Blanche stuff as well as newer pieces which work very well. I particularly like the 'fortune card' gods of chaos pieces in the background section.

It reminds me a lot of the old Karl Kopinski art- heavily stylized and gritty, not as messy as Blanche- but with strong lighting reminiscent of Renaissance art.
This is great. I hope the other new codices follow suit; I might actually buy them if the art isn't just a mix of recycled pieces and sterile product ads.

The leaked/shown art is absolutely amazing, far better than the "can only show current models" of the old codex. It gives me vibes of the old gritty black and white art that we used to have and that I loved. DG seems really menacing in these and really what more can you want from Chaos artwork.

Yup, loving the direction here. At the same time it makes one wonder, why the codices have much weaker cover pictures when evocative stuff like this is being produced.

Definitely loving the new artwork. It's more of throwback to the way codex art used to look.

That's easy enough to accomplish with what they already have done. I probably could have upped the contrast to make it more like ink work, but I decided to keep some of the grayscale in it. Less moody, but still holds most of the detail.

I particularly like the excessive pipes on the armor. To me it seems visually similar to an oil refinery which just adds to that imagery of pollution.

Yeah it's really cool - beautiful (if that's the right word for it?!) artwork.
Reminds me a bit of some of the Adrian Smith stuff in the 3.5 codex. I don't know who the artist is in this case?
Actually the whole current Chaos line (including the 'standard troops' in particular) is amazing, really I think one of the miniature lines that has improved the most.

Yep - looks like a plague thing (spitter?) and a twin-linked thing (reaper autocannon?). There've been rumours of a 'full' Blight-hauler kit since the E2B one was released.
