Pretty much as title. Black Widow now hits streaming and theatres in early July.

$30.00 too.

I guess that's the new going price for movie that stream 'day of release' at home?

Kinda pricey...

Likely them still playing with the format and seeing what they can get away with.

I’m actually kinda tempted by Black Widow as a rental.

Yes, $30 is expensive for streamed content, no denying that. But, in my area it compares well to going to the Cinema.

Cinema tickets are nudging £20 for a seat that won’t give me DVT, then there’s getting there, and the constant risk of Utter Richards ruining the experience because they don’t know how to behave in public.

Plus, by July I’ll be able to have folk over to watch it with me.

What might be worth looking into is how long D+ has rentals as an extra, before just putting them on the platform proper. If memory serves, only two have had the treatment so far (Mulan and Raya), so probably not enough data there for a conclusion.

Yeah. Overall I’m not personally against it. And to be fair to them, they’ve been pretty good on price so far.

For a single viewer $30 is to much but the price is assuming a viewing party.

Or is once again indicative that the big studios don't really get how this internet thing works yet.

I'm against digital-only content since its inception. I think expenses due to market (and channel, and taxes, etc) should have an impact on the final product.

So, if possible I'll go to the theater (if some will survive). Otherwise, D+ can suck my socks with their unhinged prices.
Let the old Scrooge McChapek sweat a little.

I can't condone a place where abusers and abused are threated the same: it's destined to doom, so there is no reason to participate in it.

That url makes me want to see both Black Widow as Cruella and Cruella as Black Widow. I'm vaguely disappointed in the internet; a quick search suggest this doesn't actually exist (yet).

Anyway, not surprised. Maybe a little by the wait until July, but it seems their best bet at the moment. I'll happily wait out 'premium' periods for stuff I actually want to watch.

Yeah that's pricey for a one-view film.

Big nope for me. When you're already paying subscription prices on top of this? At the very least there should be a lowered price if you're already subscribed. 30 dollars for a movie you don't even own is ridiculous.

If it was an 'unlock fee', as in once paid for you could watch it whenever you wanted for the rest of time, then maybe you could justify it (maybe!).

But once off is bad. I'm already thinking of canning Amazon Prime because I hate the way they ask you to pay to rent/watch movies on top of the subscription service. I certainly wouldn't fork over $30+ for a new movie on my TV, even one I want to see like Black Widow.

Also doesn't it just go normal streaming after 30 days?

30.00 is unlimited viewing. You pay 30.00 and it's unlocked on your account forever. Or wait till it's unlocked on D+ for free. Though I suspect Black Widow might be maybe 60 days + until it shows up on D+ for free.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Unlocked forever, or unlocked as long as you continue to subscribe?

Well, obviously the latter. You aren't getting special access to the service to view one thing.
Plus it wouldn't be a 'forever' unlock anyway- the premium shows pass into the general pool after a bit.

FYI, Raya started as a 'premier' on March 5, and it won't be available to normal subscribers until June 4. So 90 day turn around.

So yeah, I’ll keep my D+ subscription to support their series I’m enjoying, but I ain’t paying $30 for a single movie so shall continue to use... Alternative services to watch that as I did with Raya. On the plus side them releasing on digital at the same time as theaters really improves the quality of those alternative services right off that bat. Hell, I may go back to using the alternative services to watch the series as well despite paying for D+ if their app continues to refuse to play the videos on my phone in full screen.

Mystic Grotsnik Predicts....

The $30 is an attention grabber. A talking point , where people are likely to say no better than “that’s a bit steep”.

Closer to the time, and in an act of magnaminty, Disney+ lowers the price to say, $20 or $25. Intent being a response of “hah! It’s discounted now, better snap up a bargain”.

Public perception is challenged, and changed enough for the launch to be a success.

Disney+ cackle in villain as the reduced price was the price they’d originally set for their budgeting all along, so they have in fact offered no real discount, just a public pleasing perception of one.

The mists face, the prediction ends.

If they hadn’t already gone thru two movies, both with arguably less baked in draw, with full $30 price tags I might agree.

Were they both that much?

Blimey. Though it does seem more of a purchase than a rental, in that it’s not a “watch in once” or time limited access thing.

Still not a bad price for a movie night alternative to friends hitting the cinema. Though I suspect how good/crap your local cinema is will weigh heavily on that one.

Mine is awful. Arse end of town via the worst roads, hella expensive and a bit run down. There is however a boutique cinema opening right round the corner which I will be sussing out as soon as is practical. If that coincides with Black Widow, seems fair to see it there - spesh as it’s not a big old national chain, but local enthusiasts giving it a go. After all, even if their venture fails, it’ll be nice to say I supported them all the same given my dislike for chain cinemas. Certainly better than not using it, losing it, then moaning that you lost it. Best of all, I can knock off work at 4:00, be in the cinema by 4:10, then continue supporting my local economy with a trip to my local, which is next door. A pretty pleasant night out overall, and one I’ve sorely missed since gone in-town cinema close in 2000.

But if they’re not open in time, or not showing it, I’m not adverse to coughing up on Disney+.

I want to support the franchise - as a cinema experience so, if conditions allow I'll be watching it that way. The pay-to-view streaming option is probably a 3rd choice after 'wait until it becomes part of the standard package'.

In a way, my preference is the opposite of MDG - i like going to 'the pictures'. But like him, my preferred way of seeing a film in a public place is as with as few members of the public as possible.

I just assume people are asking legitimate questions, and try to be helpful.

$30 is steep. I didn't watch Mulan or Raya largely for that reason, but I also understand it's competitive with both digital purchases and the total cost of going to movies. As a standard option moving forward it makes sense, even if its too much if you're just comparing it to a single ticket.
