In the year 2022......

what are you planning on trying to get accomplished? I like to make a few goals to keep me from getting sidetracked by the new shiny! It has worked the last few years as I have pretty much finished off my Pile of Shame and can now focus on driving forward new projects and ideas.

You can read the details on my blog: http://bloodandspectacles.blogspot.com/2022/01/random-2022-dawn-of-new-age.html

However, here are the highlights to get our discussion started. I like to break into four categories; buying, painting, playing, and writing.

Buying:
1. Get a Dark Age Irish army from Wargames Atlantic painted up
2. Complete a Persian army for Victrix/Wargames Atlantic
3. Get Korean War aircraft from Tumbling Dice
4. Stay caught up with the Osprey Wargame Series

Painting:
1. Finish what I buy!
2. Print out Trireme fleets for Poseidon's Warriors

Playing:
1. I have a lot of playtesting to do on Blood and Spectacles games
2. Play a lot of sample games of Castles in the Sky!
3. Aiming to play about 2 games a month.

Writing:
1. The Games: Blood and Spectacles 2E
2. Fury of the Northman rules to the Vault
3. White Star/Red Star to the Vault
4, Ionia Revolt supplement for Men of Bronze

That about covers it for 2022. Pretty ambitious for a full time dad, career guy, and small business owner. We will see how I do.

How about you? What is on your 2022 docket?

Playing:
Continue This is Not a Test campaign, hopefully do a Dracula's America Campaign in Q3-4

Finish something, anything

Buying
No particular goals, but no particular restrictions.

Painting
Paint more than I did for 2021 (115 models, so need to break that, hopefully by a lot).

Playing
Yes. Do this. Hopefully COVID won't cause as much of a hassle in that area (at least with all my vaxxed friends).

Writing
Finish up my horror co-op/solo game and get it published on Wargame Vault.

Buying:

Hoping this year to mostly limit myself to picking up new releases for completed armies. The MCP drip has remained something I love to paint each month. The Malifaux second Master releases are also a big source of new stuff to paint. Not sure if the need to pick up Sonnia will result in me starting the Other Side.

I've got a few big projects already paid for as well. Really excited for Judgement as really the last game I've been itching to have in my collection as well as the Kickstarters for MonPoc and Warcaster.

IF I somehow make time, Blood Bowl has been very popular locally and while I don't NEED a team, I like to try and support people in whatever games they're excited for so I feel an obligation to pick something up. As the longest of shots, while I will probably never play it, one of my goals for years has been to paint a Mad Max Speed Waaagh Army. Maybe this year?

Painting:

Priority 1 is not letting anything go to the backlog. If I buy it, it gets painted ASAP. That's served me well the last couple of years in avoiding buying things and I plan to keep it up.

I'm hoping this year I can get the backlog done though. It's a stretch, depends on if there's stuff I can find a home for or just buckle down and finish. Malifaux is nearly complete but seeing a huge wave of new releases. A lot of my side games are done, though there's stuff like one last Guild Ball team to complete.

Playing:

I just want to be able to play. Last year didn't have too many COVID interruptions once vaccines rolled out, but it's still blocking a lot of game time. Its so out of my control I don't want to set any goals, though I'm pretty happy getting a mix of games in and look forward to seeing if Judgement can get into my top games now that its cheap enough to find an audience.

Buying: Hopefully not much! All projects currently have what they need.

Painting:
- Finish the Imperial Guard I'm working on.
- Paint the rest of my Tyranid force
- Paint at least one fantasy force, either finish my beastmen or paint my wood elves.
- Paint some D&D minis, probably a clatter of giants and other missing bits and pieces from my monster manual.

Playing:
- Keep playing Grimdark Future.
- Get in some games of Age of Fantasy, hopefully including a Siege with my ringfort.
- Get back to in person D&D with minis, maybe running Undermountain for my students.

Buying: a few more elves to complete my KoW elf army. Otherwise I'd like to focus on just things I need, like paints and basing materials.

Painting: Well, I've got paint those elves too! And anything else I have lying around, especially my Deadzone guys. Plus my Corsairs.

Playing: Kings of War, Armada, and whatever else might strike my fancy. I'd like to do just some more playing in general.

Buying:
Custodes Codex and Combat Patrol when they drop, build from there to 2k points.
Also buy in to Army Painter Speed Paints when released in February.

Painting:
Use Speed Paint to complete Custodes force. It won't be pretty, but I have never finished painting an army before so this is my last gasp.
Anything else painted is a bonus.

Playing:
Actually join a club and play a game once Custodes are ready for the table. Another big one as I have only played a handful of games with my son during 7th and 8th, and none since 9th dropped.

Is no fun, is no Blinsky!

I'm new to the hobby, so my goals are pretty modest:

Buying
-Deciding on whether to expand my CSM start collecting box by adding Terminators/Havocs, or if I should rather get a box of Reivers to start a Kill Team [I'm leaning towards the latter]
-The Eldritch Omens boxset if the price is reasonable--I don't have a Forgefiend, and I like the look of the Warpsmith, Chosen and Ranger models

Painting
-The aforementioned CSM box
-I'd like to take a stab at scratch-building some terrain

Playing
-A few games of KT

Writing
-Perhaps some WIP posts of the items listed in Buying and Painting above

Painting:
* Finish my Talos/Cronos force. This isn't that steep a challenge as it's just the small bitz (little side arms, capacitors, blades/spikes, etc) to go on each one + 1 Archon.
* Finish my AoS Marauder army. Again, not that hard. It's down to a handful of characters.
* Base coat the 2 Stormcast dragons.
* Finish as many things out of the misc. minis box as the whim strikes
* continue painting more FoW infantry - I don't think this project will ever actually end....

Playing:
General - Play more games - AoS, 40k, FoW, Gaslands, Warcry, etc.
Specific - Play Cursed City, Dungeonbowl & Anhk.
Continue running our weekly D&D/PF game.

Purchasing:
* I need to decide what type of force I want for LotR.
* A few Codex/Battle Tomes for 40k/Sigmar for sure.
* We'll have to see what expansions arrive for Cursed City.
* New GW armies/units = ?
* new 15mm WWII terrain - the one local shop doesn't really have any, so it makes playing some games like FoW there difficult/boring/odd looking. Wich makes it harder to attract new players. So something cheap that I won't be worried about leaving there in a tote.
* It's getting time to place another order from BattleFoam.....

Hobby:
* Create & run some campaigns for Sigmar, FoW, & maybe 40k.

Did Fulgrim Just Behead Ferrus?

Fort Worth, TX

For reference, I've largely taken a break from the hobby for the last two to three years.

Buying:
Not much. I just bought one of every Primaris marine kit I didn't have. Which was a lot, since I only had the contents of the Indomitus, Shadowspear, and two Dark Imperium boxes. I plan to sell off the armies I don't want to focus on anymore (which is also a lot, 10+ years of collecting). May buy a few more Adeptus Custodes models along with their codex. May buy another Primaris unit or two, depending on what I feel like my army is missing.

Painting:
I have not truly painted in a model in at least five years. I've started some with primer and a basecoat or two, but nothing finished in that time. My goal is to completely paint this Primaris marine army I'm building this year. I have all the paints and tools to do so. I just need to do it.

Playing:
Well, I hope to play! I'm 45 minutes away from the Warhammer Citadel in Grapevine, TX. The hard part, however, is walking into that store and trying to get a game with a stranger. Having extreme social anxiety is a real PITA in that regard.

Buying
All in on Farrow 2022! I've actually made that purchase already, but on the off chance that Privateer Press releases any new piggies...and the ones I've purchased haven't arrived yet.

I'm committed to only buying new GW models if they're actually new units and not just kit refreshes, so I'm probably safe on 'nids and Daemons. Marines are a different story.

At some point I'm going to need to invest in a better travel case.

Painting
Pile of Shame 2022: Weird Sequel Name Boogaloo. I still have 12 Hormagaunts and a handful of Marine things left over from last year, and the full Farrow range to assemble once they actually get to me.

Playing
There have been definite sparks of interest in Warmahordes at my local LGS, I'm going to throw as much gas at those sparks as I can.

I'm also going to try to make it to another 6+ local 40k tournaments.

Writing
I feel like I really ought to get involved in the project to replace Battlescribe since I use that and it's looking increasingly like abandonware.

Buying:

Lot less than last year. Cities of sigmar mainly.

Painting:

I have 301 unpainted AOS models. Those and blood angel army are priority.

Playing:

Try to get at least 60 games of AOS and maybe 40 or so 40k. Some LOTR as well though don't expect that to be no more than 20.

Buying: Some Malifaux purchases, apart from that nothing really for games. Will be more busts and 1 off models for painting

Painting: Malifaux, WM/H, Historicals and then a whatever busts and display bits i decide to get

Playing: Malifaux and then im going to see what the local WM/H community is like (iv just moved house) and hopefully i can get back into that as the big update last year has me hyped. Other than that im interested to see what RivenStone by Broken Anvil Games is like when its launched.

2022 will be my terrain year hobbywise.

My goal is to buy, assemble and paint enough terrain for Necromunda. Both 2D and 3D, basically enough terrain for a couple of very dense 3' x 3' boards.

Then scratch build and paint a few hills and rock formations for 40k. With some ruins in MDF also.

Other than that I'll keep painting the miniatures I bought in 2021, but considering that it's all stuff I don't currently play, the terrain has full priority.

Playing: I'm sticking with 9th edition of 40k, mostly with orks. Then I'd like to start a campaign of Necromunda before summer.

Buying (depending on how much of my backlog I can clear): Miniatures Scenery Tornadodo and Zephyr Penguin. I also might (!) get some stuff for a small Admech Force (as if it would stay small... *cough)

Painting: A couple of vehicles for my Guard army I have been working on (some from Models and Minis, some printed, some kitbashed). 3 and a half squads of Guardsmen, 2 heavy weapons squads, 4 Ogryns and a couple of Character Minis from Victoria Miniatures, A Skitarii Marshal and 5 Rangers and Vanguard each (which would be my current backlog that I hope to clear till end of the year.
Bonus round for some Rampart Terrain I have lying around

Playing: I want to start a pretty epic campaign with my Pen and Paper role playing group with me as DM

Writing: some more fluff for my homebrew regiment and some collaborations with Oldmate. Would also be great to get the Crusade of Fury really going again and to start up some fluff for the beginning of my small Admech Force (that currently only consists of an Enginseer and 4 Servitors)

Buying: My goal this year is to limit my purchases to only models needed to complete existing armies, and stuff like paint.

Painting: I want to get as much of my 15mm ancients backlog completed. I think I can get 1/2-2/3 of them done if I work hard for the whole year. I also want to turn some of my 28mm knights into an army for Oathmark.

Playing: I'd like to get as many ADLG games in as possible. Try out some new rules like Mortem et Gloriam, and get in some games of Oathmark when I get an army ready for it.

Paint 200 models, up from 168 in 2021 and 170ish from 2020. Considering I have a whole Drukhari army to do, 3 or 4 Middle Earth forces, my Bolt Action USA and DAK, the rest of my DW Watch Companies, and an infinitely expanding Black Legion army, I think it's fairly plausible.
I've already finished my Saruman model so it's only 199 to go!

Buying:

Slow-gro on my Warcry and Kill Team projects. Will probably need more Primaris and Chaos dudes. No other major plans yet.

Painting:

Whatever I buy gets painted. Beyond this, clear the backlog which right now includes 14 trenchers and 6 rangers from pp, repainting my ariadna and yu-jing from infinity and the kill team starter.

Playing:

Maintain our Friday wargames - mix of historicals and skirmish. I'll try and get the guys into kill team.

Buying;
As with quite a few of us, I’d like to reduce the pile so need to keep purchases to a minimum. That probably means Blackstone Fortress Expansions Terrain and maybe a Predator and Rhino for my Void Panthers Space Marines.

Painting:
Finish as much of my Primed stash as I can. I reckon finishing all of my Blackstone Fortress collection should be doable, after that I have a choice of; Tactical or Assault Marines, High Elf Archers or Spearmen, Necron Warriors, Chaos Warriors and Space Marine Heroes Series 3 Plague Marines. In an ideal world I’d finish the lot, but being realistic 2-3 projects is more likely!

Playing:
A couple of mates are interested in playing Blackstone Fortress, so that’s on the cards. Probably the odd game of Space Marine Adventures with the kids too.

Writing:
Deadnight said writings for work, and as my job is mostly that I have to agree. That said I want to continue my plog and that will probably have minor expansions to my Void Panthers background (though that’s more an explanation of it than a work of fiction!)

Well I need to do a damn sight more than I managed this year, that's for sure!

Buying:
Ought to avoid this really, but I'm sure I'll end up with at least some of whatever new CSM stuff comes out

Painting:
I want to get the Kill Team box set all painted, so I can actually have a game with a fully painted set of something and I feel like that's my best shot. Or possibly my Hero Quest (original version) box, which is a good half way done already.

Playing:
Hell, just playing something would be a start. Think I've managed maybe 2 or 3 games of 40k this year. Need to learn the aforementioned Kill Team too.

Why not? Here's what I'm thinking atm.

Buying: whatever new Chaos models are released and adding them to my Black Legion army. Also, any new Chaos Knight models. Definitely getting any Codexes that are released. Possibly buying World Eaters should they happen, depending on rules.

Painting: the rest of my Pile of Shame. Staring down a mountain of Astra Militarum and don't like it. Have enough 30k stuff sitting around for 2 armies, will require a lot of stripping.

Playing: my Deathwatch army is the only one I've played in 9th, eager to move on to Death Guard, Grey Knights and Chaos Knights. Will eventually move back to CSM when new Codex hits.

Not sure if this'll help, Tannhauser, but try getting involved with Nikkikolls' streams over on Twitch - last I checked, she and her husband Scott, along with some of their community, do meet up at the Citadel for games. If you get to know them a bit via Twitch, you may be able to arrange some games that way, with a little of the "meeting complete strangers" aspect dialed back a bit.

What I would find amazing would be to find some dudes (and time for them) with a "beer and pretzels" garage hammer attitude to hang around, chat about modelling and painting and get introduced into the gameing side of the hobby. Visiting the local FGS does not seem to be really organizable at the moment (at least for me). I don't assume this will work out during the epidemic, but one can dream.
