I really hope that these are fake. I love the narrative ideas of how certain Cult Marines could fit in to the philosophies of the other Legions, and this would ruin that. Also, only letting core units take marks? Again, more fun stripped out.

After ready this again, this all seems like a bunch of convoluted crap with annoying restrictions. No Greater Possessed, Cult Marines datasheets, Mutilators, or marks of Chaos beyond core and characters? No mention of Renegades beyond Creations and Red Corsairs? Three strange weapons profiles for Obliterators? Cult Marines don't get Legion traits? And the the icon of wrath seems far worse than what we have now. My excitement for this codex has really gone down. The Legion traits are good, but imo, they don't make up the other stuff that I mentioned.

Am I the only one who's pretty happy about the Renegade traits? It looks like I might finally be able to effectively field an effective Crimson Slaughter/Brazen Beasts army. I am sad that it looks like we might be losing the Purge's and Flawless Host's cool rules.

I've been thinking about the rumored rules for Chosen, and if they're true, that would be a converter's dream. I've got a bunch of cool AOS Chaos weapons lying around, and I could just slap them on without having to deal with any confusion or clashing rules. I was also considering making some Nurgle Chosen from Putrid Blightkings, complete with the rotten, arcane weapons that they come with, and again, these rules would leave me completely free to do so.

If all GW did for 9th was to give troops two wounds and daemon engines 3+ WS/ BS, imo it would be better than what we're getting here. I'd even be willing to sacrifice making customizable warbands if it meant not getting all this mess.

So now not only do my jumppack lords no longer exist, but apparently all Aspiring Champions without an axe and combimelta also got taken by the warp
feth hobbyists I guess, conversions are now banned. I cant wait until they say you are only allowed to use "official" paintschemes too that'll probably be 11th editions big new update
I agree with you entirely, but where did you learn that jump lords aren't going to be around anymore?

One thing that I'm worried about is that the World Eaters will get left in the lurch for a period of time after the CSM codex is released, being left with old models and rules while the rest of CSM move on.

I hope that doesn't happen, but I doubt it will. The fact that the Death Guard ones got rules updates tells me that they're gonna be around. I honestly don't mind if the greater possessed become the normal ones, though I will miss the unique rules and fluff that came them. I just hope that we get a handful of new models to go along with the two others, which the rumors do seem to be suggesting.

While I like the fact that the Lord Discordant won't be degrading, cutting away three wounds sounds a bit excessive. I would prefer if the number of wounds one lost before degrading was raised to ten. It's not a major issue, though.

I'd prefer if it they gave degrading statlines to things that they felt deserved them, and regular statlines to things that they felt deserved those, and lost this arbitrary 10 and above nonsense.
If everything is bespoke these days, how come that facet of the rules is so rigidly enforced when it is something they could ignore on a whim?
That's a good point, but I'm worried that alot of people would start complaining about it creating more imbalance and lead to accusations of faction favoritism.
One thing I want to see in the new codex is for the Master of Executions to be give an invuln save or FNP. For being a unit meant to be in the thick of it, he's pretty fragile.

But there's already faction favoritism. By humongous leaps and bounds. If you're not Space Marine, you're going to be sitting on your thumbs for 5+ years hoping that you'll get an update to the section of your model line that's still resin/ancient plastic this edition or next.
That's true, I'm just worried that creating different wound degradation levels for different models would create unnecessary friction in the community.
What I'm really looking forward to are the ways that one can create a custom warband. I wonder what new traits and relics we might see?

It only comes with the pistol, but in the Death Guard, the vanilla Chaos Lord can take all weapons, with the exception of the hammer being replaced with the balesword. And that basically makes conversion a necey.

Instead of restricting options, GW should put out upgrade packs like they do fur loyalist Space Marines. In a local GW that I go to, right next to each was one upgrade pack for Dark Angels and then another for Primaris Dark Angels. I don't mind those existing, but it's ridiculous that we can't at least something for Chaos (beyond the out-of-date Night Lords and Noise Marines packs). For me personally, these rules don't hurt me that much, as two of my Chaos Lords/Exalted Champions are armed with flails (which I plan to use as anything I want depending on the battle), with one of them also having a plasma pistol, and my third one has dual lightning claws. That being said, I absolutely do not like this and dread what it might mean for the future.
This news also means that the Death Guard Chaos Lord is going to arguably be the most kitbash-friendly HQ for Chaos, if these rumors are true.

That sounds awesome. I was actually thinking of buying another Kharn and turning him into a Word Bearers Lord of Khorne, since it both would look cool and as a nod to Argel Talk.
Basically I'm going to chalk this up to early beta testing and not option removals at least until the point we see the actual datasheets.
I think that this makes sense. Personally, I don't think that the jump lord is going away any time soon. The current model is very old and out of date and will probably be replaced. If a new model doesn't come out soon, I'm thinking that it might in tenth edition. Chosen had no official models during all of eighth except for the OOP Dark Vengeance ones, and when the current Death Guard codex was first released, there was no Lord of Contagion on sale. The Dark Imperium one is shown in the datasheet besides only being available second hand. I think that the Dark Vengeance cultists were also not being sold any more by then, despite a picture of one being used for the DG cultist datasheet. The no rules/no models thing is not some magical spell that causes all rules for a model to instantaneously disappear when a particular model is discontinued. Sometimes all that's happening is that GW is making room for a replacement, and that can take some time.

My bad, we don't do these anymore, having to think spoiled netlisting/cherrypicking too much and gave the players weird ideas like CSM being damned slaves to uncaring masters instead of Chaos Clauses showering them with bonuses with no strings attached
The named weapons still do that, as well as daemon shells. This new weapon strikes me as one simply enhanced by Chaos power instead of actually containing a daemon.

There may be more options in the box that we haven't seen yet. I was actually thinking that a new prince model might be coming out due to Total War, and the fact that we hadn't heard about it in the 40k rumors is that it's linked to an AOS release. Turns out I was right.

It was mentioned earlier that Haarken Worldclaimer might be the only playable jump lord in the new codex. I honestly would not be that upset if it was made into the new official jump Lord model, with the rules to be able to convert on different weapons. I'm not sure if too many fans are that attached to the actual character himself for anyone to be to upset at his loss in the rules.
