How do!

Much like Prey, I am super disappointed my Nerdar completely failed to notice this movie was coming. And like Prey, it’s coming really really soon. 7 October 2022 soon. On Hulu, so presumably (but not confirmed) Disney+ in the U.K. (sorry, American Chums. Disney+ in the U.K. is really that good!)

It is a remake, but is said to be sticking faithfully to Clive Barker’s source novel, The Hellbound Heart.

Casting details available via Wikipedia. And a couple of preview piccies have been shown off. Sadly my inner Luddite strikes again and I can’t link the pics directly, so here’s a link to Entertainment Weekly.

Now I’ve been a fan of Hellraiser since seemingly forever. And I’ve seen every movie in the series, enjoying all of them apart from Hellworld. So I am of course very very hype for this! Especially if we get a treat somewhere on the level of Prey, in terms of latter day additions where the makers actually seem to have seen and digested the Good Original. And with Clive Barker as a Producer (not executive producer) I really am hopeful.

Big Hellraiser fan here too! (I agree with you on Hellworld definitely the weakest of the later "Get random horror script, slap some Cenobites on it and call it a day" films.)

New Pinhead looks good, as does what I can see of that Mask Cenobite, but I'm a bit worried over how much involvement Clive Barker had, I found all the followup Hellraiser stuff he did pretty terrible.

I really liked the original movie, but I found the movies dropped off starting with the 2nd. I still have hopes for this new one though, as it appears there is at least a few semi talented people behind it.

I found the story so-so at best. If not for the makeup design and other talent brought in for the movie, I doubt the property would have had much cultural impact. So, I guess we’ll see if they capture lightning in a puzzlebox for a second time.

With this movie out in 22ish days I kinda wonder where the trailer is at..or any footage at all. It feels unusual that it's out so soon and there is no trailer or really much marketing at all. Maybe it's really bad and they know it. And they want to release it quietly and brush it under the rug.

Couple thoughts (not that I disagree with the above) :

1. Could be a rush job to get it out in time for spooky season. While horror is notoriously lucrative at any time of the year, its usually better to strike at the appropriate time.

2. Could just be the studio bean counters didn't give it enough of a budget for wide marketing. While the Pinhead dude is iconic, I never really felt the HR franchise had the same monetary/cultural impact of Freddy/Jason/Mike Myers.

Fingers crossed that it's a good movie. Wonder what kind of deal the Mortal with the box made with hell and how he'll trip up, as it usually the case. I've enjoyed ever Hellraiser movie even the bad ones. The last one left me wondering more about the angels as they'd not been in any of the movies like that, or at all before and I'd hoped for more of that prior to this. I don't fee like Pinhead is actually crucial to a Hellraiser story but there ae pinhead fans and then there are Hellraiser fans I guess. But I'm a less is more camp when it comes to Pinhead. Just my preference. But I don't want to get to excited about this movie just to be let down either so we'll see.

If I am seeing this right this isn't just a movie. It's a limited series.

Kind of like when they made The Stand as a series.

I think the limited series is separate, I don't think they've starting casting and filming the series yet.

The visuals look pretty good though, hopefully the script/plot/acting doesn't let it down. I'll definitely watch it regardless.

Early reviews are rolling in and they all seem to be "pretty good, best since the first two" - I made the mistake of reading a review and got something spoiled, so I'd advise against reading any in-depth.

Well…. Nads.

Seems the U.K. isn’t getting to see it just yet. This sucks.

Mixed feelings on this film, on one hand it's better than all the movies post Hellraiser 2. But I don't think it delivered much intensity, it felt surprisingly tame and restrained. I also kinda felt the length of this movie a bit which is never a good thing for a movie like this. The cenobites in this were quite good, but many had very brief screentime. The basic human characters aside from the lead were highly uninteresting to watch. It's still not a horrid reboot and if they did a 2nd one with the same cenobites and director i'd watch it. I'd give it a 7-7.5 out of 10 if I had to score it.

Saw it. Felt very..sterile. There was no real attempts at shocking the viewer at all. Boring really. Better than most of the sequels, but that's not much of a bar to beat.

Watched this last night, thought it was pretty good, like others have said it's the best one they've done in a while (Although that's not exactly a hard thing to do).

Not sure I like the changes they made to the Puzzle Box though,
Spoiler:
Before, no one knew it was a trap before they opened it. Now it appears that anyone that actually goes to the trouble of tracking one down already knows what the Cenobites are and yet still expects them not to screw you over.

Seems a bit silly.

Saw it last night. Incredibly dull movie that dragged on for 2 hours. Very disappointed at the lack of anything actually shocking, nothing to even make us fell uncomfortable.

Finally got to see it last night. I’m a fan.

The Cenobites look great, and act right. They’re not super speedy psycho villains. They’re slow, patient and deliberate.

The story does wobble a bit, but it creates a good atmosphere where we the viewer only know slightly more than the protagonists.

At first I was annoyed at the lack of rules governing the Cenobites. This was a significant reveal in Hellbound (desire, not actions summon them) and in the first half, there’s no real rules evident. They take who they want, regardless of innocence.

But…we later find out these happenings are part of a wider game, as Voight’s went unfinished, and it’s all an effort to get him into their clutches proper.

It’s frustratingly close to being outright brilliant. All the ingredients are there. But it just doesn’t quite come together.

Maybe that’s studio interference. Maybe they just didn’t have the budget to do something which was needed to properly tie it all together.

I don’t regret watching it. And I will be watching it again, I can tell you that for nowt. And it does add to the whole of the thing, rather than tarnish (looking at you, Hellworld. You’re awful!) but it’s not the instant classic I was hoping for.

I’d be interested to see what someone fresh to the franchise makes of it, as whilst I have of course criticised it not following the pre-existing rules, my opinion is of course still coloured by significant goodwill, having enjoyed most of the franchise (again, not you Hellworld. You can bugger off and stay there. You suck)

I have always been aware of the old movies but I have no memories of ever watching them. I probably have more exposure to the occasional wiki reading about stuff related to hellraiser.

I knew the puzzle box. I knew pin head. I new hell demons tricking people and driving people insane, and sensation but not necessarily good sensation.

I enjoyed the movie. And when I look at these cenobites versus the old stuff these ones blow those ones out of the water.

I agree with your statement MadDoc. It's frustratingly close to being an amazing movie. As it stands it's a pretty good movie.
