Goes to the new Avatar apparently

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2022/12/29/miniature-of-the-year-2022-the-results/?utm_source=CUSTOMERS&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=GW_29th_December_Mini_of_the_Year_ENG_&utm_content=&utm_term=

Everything in the list looks good to me. The internet sometimes has ok taste

I can't really argue with that result, although it wasn't my choice. I went for the HH boxed set, which is a bit dodgy as it's actually several models and none of them individually is as impressive as (say) the Avatar.

Btw - I really hate that Bayard's Revenge model. Orks already get a hard time with their patchy codex and hit-or-miss model range. No need to rub it in by having a beaky ramming his sword through one (and no, the Goff Rokker doesn't compensate). Time for a special edition model of an Ork Nob holding an eviscerated Marine aloft with his power klaw.

Avatar is a lovely kit. It’s just an improvement in every way on its venerable predecessor, the sculpt of which largely stood the test of time,

It’s bigger, has options, and whilst detailed I wouldn’t say it’s overly busy, meaning it’s not an overly daunting paint job for less enthusiastic brush wielders.

Funny thing about these votes is it's basically what was biggest kit(especially 40k) each year.

One can predict Angron wins next year

Still good model and more interesting was 10-2nd places

That neither Glorfindel or Elrond are on that list is a crime.

I think it's weird that entire boxes were "models" you could vote for, like the Slaves to Darkness box, as opposed to the Daemon Prince kit.

They won't advertise something you can't buy, hence have to use the box as an example.

But you can buy the model. It’s just part of a set.

Not officially, though. The slaves to darkness haven't dropped separately yet, so the only way to get that model currently is from the set. Like how they used to make certain character models exclusive to "start collectings"

I think if the Lion rumours are true, Angron could have some competition next year... And well, the Lion is still a Chaos model which seems to increase the chances of winning

How a box set of different miniatures can win a place in a "miniature (no 's') of the year award", I dunno.

Good first place model though.

Currently most played: Silent Death, Mars Code Aurora, Battletech, Warcrow and Infinity.

I agree with the choice this year similar to the year when Abby the Don won as well. I don't recall what last year's winner was.

I voted for the nethermaze box set, but I'm not upset with the avatar winning.

No offense, but it feels like you guys ran out of brain juice before you finished reading Flinty's second sentence.

Yeah I agree on the oddity of them having boxed sets as models of the year - release of the year maybe but really odd to have boxed sets in this year.

That said Avatar is a fantastic model to win! It's not crab to be sure, but its a really solid upgrade model and its fantastic to see Eldar winning.

Actually its fantastic to see a Xenos in the list considering everything else is either Imperial or Chaos or that one AoS model

Yeah, the avatar is a spectacular sculpt and I might have to get one to represent the eldar on my shelf, but I'm still hoping for some sort of humanoid character instead. A proper dynamic warp spider exarch is a wet dream of mine.

The Avatar is the one I voted for. Ever since the plastic Bloodthirster came out I've been waiting for them to do the Avatar. It was worth the wait.

Eldar-bias aside, the Avatar's alternative builds are fantastic in their own right and I wouldn't mind owning two; one for the usual eldar army, and a second as a giant for fantasy games. If I could go crazy and get a third, I'd build it as a nod to Talos from Jason & The Argonauts.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

Not upset at all by the Avatar winning mini of the year, a very well done modernization of a classic sculpt.

How to win MotY - dump huge overdone, overcomplicated (semi)daemon model. Besides one exception, that was so far all of them, over vastly better and more characterful designs. Doubly so this year seeing second place. Yawn

This one is especially dumb not only because Avatar barely belongs in top 10 IMO, it's just redone resin Forge World model with better/thinner details that plastic allows. It's not even new model, FW Avatar is what, 15 year old now? At least new DP is new design, but even in Chaos alone, new Armigers absolutely trounce it but they didn't even got a mention...

If he thinks it's same as having solo kit poor thinking ability him.

These are what you can buy NOW.

Thus no solo daemon prince and instead set.

3 year old can figure that one...

Look on the bright side... at least Valrak didn't release a rumor predicting the win, right?

Thanks. Yeah, he was an impressive model. All joking aside, I do think that there is a preference amongst the voting base for larger models and I can't say that I disagree with it. I wasn't tuned into the releases much last year so I can't recall off hand a smaller alternative to him that was a serious contender but that's largely a lack of knowledge base on my part overall for new releases. They have to really catch my eye to stick with me and both the avatar and abby did in their respective years.

I don't see why they can't promote this as "X from the X Set".

This was a more a "Box Set of the Year" Poll.

Hate to say I agree with you lol.

The avatar doesn't do anything for me. I understand *why* it won: nostalgia and size. But, there were better models to be sure this year.

On the whole, though, I'll have to admit it was a fairly mediocre year. I barely bought anything. I think I only bought the horus heresy box, leviathan, and the limited Inquisitor model (which I voted for). I would have bought the daemon prince, but I don't want any other model in that set, so. . .
