I've listened to Slayer of the Storm God, and just finished the audiobook edition of Skavenslayer. I'm quite impressed with William King's Warhammer update of Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser.

Is the whole series worth reading, or are there particular books I should pursue?

Any recommendations are welcome.

And to those who haven't listened to the two stories I mentioned above in audio format, the readers give particularly good performances. I wish the actor who read Slayer of the Storm God had stayed on Black Library's radar - I'm not sure if they ever hired him to do anything else. He nails every single voice and character, from Gotrek to the mutant fish-woman cultist.

Troll - Vampireslayer, read in order, are wonderful.

It’s been a while since I read it, but I don’t have fond memories of Giantslayer. Probably deserved a re-read.

They’re all solid, but Giantslayer was the last by Bill King.

I second that list. 1st book through to Vampireslayer is a solid run. Giantslayer seemingly sheds some of the elements that made the later books fun to return to the series’s roots, but it feels like a big step back.

I’ve read the next four or so G&F novels after William King left, and they’re okay stories while being uncomfortable, alien Gotrek and Felix stories. The characters don’t feel right, the structure doesn’t feel right, the setting feels more constrained, and the approach to fights and climaxes totally misses the point of the original series. So, I don’t recommend them if that kind of reboot-itis bothers you.
