This game is currently only available at branches of Target in the USA, but you’ll be able to purchase it in other territories later in the year – keep an eye on Warhammer Community for more news.

No Xenos minis in it? Hard pass.

That seems like a mistake to get people into the wider game. Xenos minis give another flavor that people can latch onto

For what it's worth, the marine sculpts are 5 of the 7 Warhammer Heroes season 4 (the Captain and Eliminator are missing).

There is not this idea.

This seems similar to what they did for the necrons adventure game a few years back, which I personally had some fun with, playing with my nephew and niece.

Ouch. $40 is a bit more than I would want to drop on that.

That's a rather small board. Do the Marines walk in single file through it?

I know GW are trying to save money where they can, but this new edition of Space Hulk is a bit on the skimpy side!

A tiny printed map, 4 space marines and no tyranids. For $40. I’m actually impressed - GW are elevating their p***-taking to ever dizzying heights. I genuinely believe they are just seeing what they can get away with now.

Why Ugh? This seems eminently missable.

Why make a game called Tyranid Attack if you aren't going to recreate the fleshy hive ship interiors and cool organs of the original?

I think this will serve as an entry point for the board game crowd, it's not intended for wargamers, it'll do fine and then be forgotten like the others

Yeah, I got all excited for a moment but suspected even before clicking to find out more that is was likely to just be a nostalgic crash grab use of the name. Which is too bad, since while I was fortunate enough to have my dad purchase the 1st edition Space Hulk and its expansions when I was younger, getting him to pull the trigger on the true Tyranid Attack while it existed never happened.

Well, it's 5 marines, but I don't really disagree with you. If all you want are marines, it's not horrible for the money, just not good.

Also, are those Primaris or First Born scale?

The description says there's 3 boards, so I'm assuming (hoping!) that's just one of them - it also says it's a space hulk rather than a 'Nid ship.

Also included are three double-sided game boards representing the maze of corridors in the space hulk

The space marine adventures games have always used the warhammer heroes figure sprues. The original "labyrinth of the necrons" game had five of the 2017 set, while the later Rise of the orks game had figures from the 2018 set (with the terminators)

Yes, I read it too. But they usually show a pic of the game, and there's just one. And of course, it would be an even more boring game if you have the same board in every mission, so I guess they just change the boards and not assemble them to a larger board. I may be wrong and they do exactly this in later missions, but that should be shown in the article to draw interest.

Yeah, but they're a little overlarge for the squares on the board.

I replaced the cardboard enemy chits with the actual models and he enjoys it, but the board feels kind of claustrophobic.

My 8-year-old son loves the prior version with the Necrons. It's really a game meant for kids, the rules are super basic, but if you've got young ones it's a nice, self-contained intro to the hobby.

I thought so, but seeing one Marine has a Heavy Bolter made me do a double take. Then I remembered that Sternguard Heavy bolters are a thing (a squad I've never used).

I can only hope that GWS get agreement with USA Target to release this game globally once Target has made it's profits.
It would be a great starter game for my son.

Sorry, I was temporarily struggling with small-screen syndrome. I thought he was in standard Mk10 armor, and not the heavier stuff.

Sternguard had HBs before primaris even existed.

Granted nobody used them there, but there was one in the kit.

My son won a copy of the 2018 Necron version at TMX this year but we haven't played it.
Comparing the two, the Tyranid version seems very similar, perhaps a slight step down. This is what ours looks like.

Especially odd seeing that the games that followed...
Rise of the Orks 2020...

... and Doomsday Countdown 2021...

...both appear to be upgrades over what came before.

After slowly improving each version, why the big step back now I wonder?

Knowing GW they probably lost the original game designer and this is all the replacement could manage.

Lost Patrol was popular locally - even if the Scouts could never win!
Spoiler:

And some people are enjoying the Darktide board game.

I mean it looks the same as those Barnes and Noble versions with Necrons and Orks. GMG did a review and Lets play with both if you want to see how the game performs. Much like the other game the enemies are just tokens since if you had the equivalent number of models needed you'd probably have to shove a Combat Patrol worth of minis in the box as well. That wouldn't keep the game at the price point it is now.

Primaris Sternguard didn't exist until the Leviathan box. The context of the conversation is very clear.

Maybe clear for people reading after their first cup of coffee in the morning. My bad.

SG have had a long history before crossing the rubicon primaris, which did include HBs.

True - Darktide was on the expensive side.
