Welcome all to the 114th round of the Dakka Painting challenge. For the unfamiliar, this is a friendly painting competition open to members of all skill levels and experience, whether your entry is your first or you thousand-and-first time painting miniatures. Each month, finished entries are collected into a thread where the community can vote on their favorite pieces, and those votes go towards an annual overall League that runs for 12 rounds.

This month the topic is: Beep Boop - Villains who are more machine than man, or your plastic pal who's fun to be with (unless he's feeling very depressed). Doesn't have to be bleeding-edge quantum computing in a body made from pure unobtainium, to our distant descendants on feral worlds clockwork and a steam engine could've been enough to turn a hunk of scrap into a metal beast. Robots, cyborgs, labour-saving devices or smart weapons. While the title is “Beep Boop” this extends to any non-biological lifeforms - genies, elementals, not-undead spirits, living goo, etc for those of a more fantasy bent.

How To Enter

- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You may enter at any time during the month, up to the last minute. We do encourage people to enter early, as to be part of the community, but if you can’t start until the 11th hour, that’s OK.
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 6 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 5 images and one separate image would count as your 6 picture allowance.

So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.

These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.

How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st of August and will end at midnight EST on August 30th. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.

More droids from a certain franchise. I'll likely only submit one set of B2s, but we'll see.

Wow, what a terrible photo. This is an unopened bag containing the Ro-Tek Brutes, one of three robot teams for Dreadball. This particular team comes in a million tiny pieces, making them completely customizable, not unlike Johnny Longtorso. I will likely never play them as a Dreadball team, as I don't want to do all of that bookkeeping, but they'll be useful in a number of SF settings. I'll take another photo once I open the bag and wash the pieces.

Now showing various models from the previously adandoned projects!

Painting total as of 3429/2024: 56 plus a Deva King statue
Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

I think there's pics of these two in my gallery. Shockingly, they are still unpainted. There time has come. After I don't know how many years, my Pit Slave gang will be fully painted again.

Man, I love the Dreadball bots. Such a fun team to play. Looking forward to your take on them!

Are they fun to play? Building a team looks too much like homework for me.

I'm going to enter something that should theoretically be easy so that i can focus more on my centerpiece entry in the other challenge thread. Proof:

Hopefully this fits the Beep Boop theme, as it is an Iron Hands Space Marine serving in the Deathwatch (from the Kill Team Cassius set). The Iron Hands have a lot of mechanical parts and this guy in particular has a bionic leg, so hopefully that's good enough? Also sorry for the blurry pic, I did it in a hurry.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2024: 40 | Total models painted in 2025: 21 | Current main painting project: Warhammer 40k Leviathan set

Yeah, they're great, and no more effort than the mutants.

It warms my heart every time those old RT color plates get dragged out.

Honestly, I think the Slaaneshi version is the more restrained of the two... the stripy 'trousers' on the Imperial Castellan are crazy!

It should definitely be fine. Iron Hands space marines are one of the examples Nev gave for Beep Boop in the voting thread.

Speaking of which, I'm doing Iron hands too. Here is a collection of cast space marine bits. I will be adding to it, and plan to convert, kit bash, and sculpt them into five Iron Hands tactical marines.

Yeah the Slaanesh one is just a battenburg cake. Even cake is an insidious daemonic being in disguise!

I need to have a think of what to do for this one.. probably a nice Iron Kyn.

Since there are two in the box I originally planned to have my Casty standing on the wreck of an Imperial model, but somebody in our local gaming group needed one (for actual use, rather than base decoration), so I gave it away and switched to the Necron thingy, from an issue of Imperium I picked up specifically for base wreckage. Probably just as well, I was kind of looking forward to recreating the Imperial livery, but I've got the greater daemon still to finish this month as well.

Here's my entry pic. Going for something simpler this month in order to give myself a chance at getting the centrepiece entry done: 1 clade vanus infocyte assassin.

I really like the model, though, so I'll do my best to do it justice.

I'm sorry to hear about your primer, KidCthulhu.

I'm progressing on creating my Iron Hands space marines. Since this is a painting thread, which I haven't started yet, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to share my progress here.

Right, well, turns out a couple of days without wife and 2 of the kids can prove quite productive

General Grievous and Magnaguards.

A fine addition to my collection.

I'm joining the club of surprisingly productive people. C-3PO isn't finished just yet but especially today I made good progress And the day isn't even over yet...

So I'm adding R2-D2 to this month's endeavor. Proof:

I finally found a robot to paint and I think I have a clever idea. I have ripped apart my old broadside and I'm going to make it look like an old broadside. A run down, discount gun platform that should have been retired ages ago. Like the actual model.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

First model finished. Unless things go terribly wrong for the rest of the month and I don't get any more droids painted, this picture is just eye candy and not meant for the vote thread.

This was going to be my entry for last month, but I spend so long building it that I had no time for painting. Happily it fits this month's theme as well.
