That's great! Looking forward to R2, can't get much more literally beep boop than him! xD

I'm just about done making my Iron Hands, just a few more details and shoulder pads to add before I start painting.

Thanks. A few highlights ended up looking pretty rough. I didn't even see it on the actual model until the closeups made it too apparent to miss.

On to R2 then. No pressure. I hope my dark blue is still good. I haven't used it in ages.

I made a start on the Ro-Tek Brutes, but I'm just not feeling it. I'll have to dig through the backlog and find something else that speaks to me. I'll submit a new proof pic when I have decided.

Now showing various models from the previously adandoned projects!

Painting total as of 3429/2024: 56 plus a Deva King statue
Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

A beadbot sounds fun, but I think I'll be building and painting this:

The box says it's a Machinen Krieger model. I picked it up a couple of years ago, with the intention of using it for Gamma Wolves. It's been sitting in the box ever since.

For this challenge, I think it's time for me to finally finish painting the squadron of VF-1 Valkyries for Robotech RPG Tactics I started painting in... 2020?

Spoiler:

Properly named 'XVI Kelner'. I'll be the first to admit there's an element of 'eh, good enough', but it's a big model (by my standards) and I've got the greater daemon on my plate as well this month. The two flamers are because I'll be using it on the tabletop (if I ever do) as a Helbrute. I did sneak in some traffic lights, just to prove I'm human (for want of a better option).

Nice work Daia T'Nara. I’m a sucker for these kinds of callbacks to Rogue Trader illustrations.

Agreed. Pretty cool.

So, turns out I was actually out of blue. That's been rectified now but the next issue is already coming up. The forecast says I have a heatwave to look forward to. So I'm trying to get as much painting on R2-D2 done as I can this morning. I doubt the next few days will be good for painting.

On the bright side, less painting means I can put that time towards getting the next droid ready for painting. Still plenty of August left.

The Sturm Kafer is assembled:

I'm going to ask that you ignore the canopies-- I got the model used, and the clear parts weren't in the box, so I had to improvise with some clear plastic from a blister pack. The pilot was to big, and knocked my improvised parts out of place, so I decapitated him, and will be painting over the clear plastic. I have not glued the legs on yet, as I want to have unobstructed access to the underside.

I’m in! Took me a while to make a bionik arm that I was happy with (I completely scrapped my first attempt).
This is Tank, an ork taken from his feudal homeworld and pressed into the service of Da Mutineers, my Freebooter mob. On his first day in a modern battlefield a tank shell exploded the wall next to him and took most of his left side with it. It took both the doks and the meks to get him back onto the battlefield.
Modeling is done, now onto painting!

Now that's a blast from the past! They were some of my favourite models in Rogue Trader. Looking forward to seeing what you do with them!

In other news, I'm still hunting around for an entry this month. I've come up dry on any robot-y models so far. But I still have several boxes of stuff to go through, so something may turn up!

That Cybork is wild! Very orky. Also, I love me some Ghost Warriors...

Here are some WIP shots of the Sturm Kafer:

For a change, I'm doing it all in acrylic gouache rather than my usual miniatures paints.

Since I'm making good progress on R2-D2 as well, I'm going to add a nanny droid to my painting list for this month:

Partially inspired by my latest endeavor, if you don't have robots, do you have any kids? Not only can especially younger kids beep boop with the best of them, once they start you'll have a hard time getting them to stop again.

That's some phenomenal sculpting, Geifer. I really wish you took commissions

Thanks, guys.

Turns out getting too little sleep is unhelpful. Who knew? I thought I was in a good spot, but the closeup view reveals a fair few bits that need another pass that I didn't see at model size. I think while I'm at it I'm also going to build up the ice cream a little more on one side of the cup.

I used to love doing a bit of sculpting for my friends. At some point I became too old and tired to reliably finish stuff anymore. Real shame, but what are you going to do about this whole aging malarkey? Age gracefully? No way, that ain't me!

This month I will be painting miss Selma Banks downloaded from here:

https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-cyberpunk-selma-banks-bomber-girls-gang-322608

I have no idea if she is a robot, but definitely at least a cyborg. So far she is painted with metallic base. Proof pic:

Firstly, your Twi'lek looks great! I don't have any kid models, unfortunately.

After a thorough search of my minis stash, I've not found anything appropriate. And I have a rule of not buying new stuff for this challenge.
But, I'm going to attempt an entry anyway, by sculpting a robot. Not sure I'll manage to finish it in time, but I'm going to try!

Step one - I found a pile of Milliput bits in my sculpting box:

Tried a few of the bits:

I reckoned that would work, so I carved and sanded them:

Drilled a load of holes, and added some brass wire and brass/plastic tubes:

...and this is where he's at so far:

The next step involves lots of putty, and will take a lot longer. Fingers crossed I can find some spare time over the next week or so!

**** Quick edit - honestly, looking at my job list for the rest of the month, the odds of me finishing a sculpt and painting it are pretty slim. So don't hold your breath! ****

cheers,
Michael

Jadenim,

As I only have a couple of old harlequins left, I needed a robot. I traded for the toy with my daughter.

Some interesting stuff, and man, some finished already...

Lovejoy: hoping he gets done, its a neat little guy! Going for a more SF look, or a steam or magic critterbot you could slide into the next Burrows and Badgers batch?
