Apparently, Disney is doing a live action Lilo & Stitch. This might be my favorite Disney film since 2000 (IDK, Coco was amazing) and Stitch looks spot on. This looks to be the first live action adaptation of animated film that is actually good since...I don't even know, they've consistently been lackluster.
Side note, does anyone see Stitch merchandise all over the place? Just today I went to the grocery store and saw car with a Stitch bumper sticker and that was not unusual. Out of all the Disney animated characters, I feel like like I see Stitch the most.
The only way we can ever solve anything is to look in the mirror and find no enemy
I used to work with a couple Disney Adults, and they both had Stitch bumper stickers. Also, the cosplayers and anime girls were all into Stitch memes, often doodling him themselves. There’s something about Stitch that lodges into the Garfield/Baby Yoda part of the brain, a quality that the other Disney characters don’t have so much.*
*Remember the little creature from Captain Eo that every kid used to have? I have a feeling if Michael Jackson hadn’t Michael Jacksoned, that little guy would have been the Stitch of the 90’s. It was adorable, weird, had some kind of attitude, and made an excellent plushie.
Oh good! I was going to say at one time I thought they said Cobra wasn’t going to be in the live action but when I googled them to verify their name I see they’re now credited with an actor so either I’m misremembering or they caved to the reactions.

Figment. I used to have one when I went to Epcot as a kid.

One side is the fact that yeah they don't want to take a risk on anything that isn't established. So if you managed to get a budget for a big kids/teens fantasy film you've got a LOT more chance getting Toothless and co than your own or a unique or just less known story.
Another aspect is copyright/licences/rights and so forth. A good many 3rd party licences require a studio to use the franchise within X period of time or lose access too it. So this can be another contributing factor. They basically HAVE to do something with the franchise and if they feel like they've tapped out one market they might well jump to another.
HTTYD is smart move considering that the original fanbase are all much older now so a slightly more mature CGI live action actually fits rather well. Likely the same for Lilo and Stich - though that's also just part of Disney doing most things live-action
Also fun fact I'm pretty sure HTTYD is going to be the first film since Dragonheart with a lead character that's a dragon and isn't a bad-evil character and appears on screen for more than core fight scenes. Or at least the first film since then with a half decent budget
*yes I'm aware there's something like 5 dragonheart films now but even the first sequel was a weaker offering than the original.
I also saw the trailed to the new How to Train your Dragon, and also thought the same thing.
Why?
Spoiler:
$$$$$$$$$$$! That is why!
Not according to writer/director Dean DeBlois
Spoiler:
Oddly enough, he's also the writer/director for Lilo & Stitch...

Get out there and see The Substance!
I did watch that one already, partly for the message but also the fact that it's something new and they did a really great job with the body horror, it's something I regret not catching when it first came out in theatres. Good shout out though!

Edit: I think their next move it to take some of the their live-action movies, and make animated versions of them. I am thinking any Disney, live-action movie with the Rock in it is a good candidate to this treatment. That, or any of the Love-Bug movies.

Honestly one of the few things that I think AI will be a boon for without destroying a market is the animation market. I'd love to see animations like we had in the 80-90s appearing again - letting animators hand/digital draw the core scenes and then letting AI create the interspaced motion between them. Or at least perhaps speed up the creation of all the additional frames.
Snow White's going to BOMB. Too many people have heard about the controversy. Disney just canceled the UK premier press conference for fear that Rachel Zeigler will open her mouth and start chewing on her foot again.
And any Snow White retelling that casts Zeigler as Snow White vs. the Gal Gadot as the vain Evil Queen is just plain nonsense. Zeigler is reasonably pretty, but hardly 'the fairest of them all' compared to GAL GADOT. Wee bit of a miscast there.
Yeah, they went from 'fair' as in 'most beautiful' to 'fair' as in 'a fair and honest ruler'. That's no longer the Snow White story.
Lets not forget all the dwarf controversy as well as you have a dwarf director who is producing a film famous for being one of the major theatrical productions real dwarf actors can work in - and not hiring a single one.

Directors saying dumb things is a part of Hollywood. Look at Patty Jenkins. During the press tour for Wonder Woman she said she was the first woman to ever direct a comic book movie... except she wasn't. Lexi Alexander, directed Punisher: War Zone.
The same thing happened when Black Panther was released and proclaimed itself to be the first black comic book hero movie... whoops. Forgot about a slew of comedies, Meteor Man, Blank Man, oh and three theatrically released Marvel movies: the Blade trilogy with Wesley Snipes.

They kind of did that with the Once Upon A Time show. Ginnifer Goodwin is in no way hotter than Lana Parrilla.

Common wisdom was The Little Mermaid was going to bomb, and while it wasn’t Lion King successful it did pretty damn well for a movie starring Aquafina as a rapping cormorant.* If the weird Disney Adults and tuned out parents of young children show up for Snow White enough to give it Little Mermaid box office, then yeah, I see L&S live action making $1.5-$2 billion. If Snow White really does bomb, it means the core Disney audience is done, and without them I can’t see Lilo & Stitch making even $1 billion. It will struggle anyway with the decrease in foreign market revenues American movies have experienced lately.
As for the bland Snow White/ultra hot Evil Queen dynamic, Snow White has nothing on Snow White and the Huntsman. Dead-eyed Kristin Stewart at her most checked out versus full-vamp Charlize Theron? What the hell were they thinking?
(Considering the affair between Stewart and the director, I guess we can puzzle out exactly what he was thinking.)
*This is literally the only part of the movie I wanted, nay needed, to see. And thanks to YouTube it’s the only part I have seen.

The closest the production came to saying that it was "the first black superhero film" was that it was first major production of a black comic character, which it was. While everyone remembers Blade as a hit they seem to ignore it was a moderate budget with mid marketing. Even the sequels with their increased budgets still weren't the hundreds of millions put into the production and global marketing of Black Panther. It stands out because for decades executives have been adverse to making such a large scale film presented around the world with a black lead. No major person involved the film , like Coogler or Boseman, thought or said it was the first black superhero film.
The trailer for Snow White looks awful. Even without the multiple controversies going on around it I wouldn't think much of it just by what we've seen.
The Lilo and Stitch trailer isn't offensive but also doesn't look nearly as good as the animated film.
