I see all sorts of weird and wonderful avatars on Dakka, and wanted to ask, "Why did you pick that image to represent yourself?"

I started with an old Lt. Commander mini pic. At the time I didn’t have a lot of minis photographed, so he was it for a while. Over the years I’ve updated as I’ve painted more captains I’m proud of.



With poorly done MS-Paint santa hats if I remember in December.

The joy it brings everyone.

Noise marines kick ass and this was a cool pic I found on the internet of them.

The first Internet forums I joined were of the anime variety, so I picked an anime avatar.

And I've just stuck with it out of sheer laziness.

(Although I did have to change from Lina Inverse to Elka Frogg after I lost the original picture.)

I am crap at miniature photography but one of the players in my D&D group never takes a bad photo. She snapped my owlbear and I thought it was a great picture of a very goofy mini so I made it my avatar.

When I first joined the site I used a Zerg Hydralisk as my avatar, but switched to a Protoss later on. I was on a bit of a StarCraft kick at the time.

Oh, I like to switch my avatars around every now and then. I've had a 40K Tau style one, ABC Warriors themed one and the current one came from me seeing Buckaroo Banzai for the first time and falling in love with its bonkers aesthetix

It was for a Christmas swap-out, and stuck.

Mostly because I think its goofy and I couldn't really think of anything else. Spur of the moment choice I've just stuck with.

I like the character. One of the best media villains of all time, in my books.

A while back, there was a bullying scandal between teammates in my favorite sportsball. The NFL made a huge deal of it and the results of their investigation were published in an official report that included a huge amount of text messages between the alleged bully and the guy being bullied.

Upon reading that report, it became clear that the "bully", while not exactly a shining example of humanity, was trying to make friends with the guy. He was constantly asking the guy to hang out, trying to set him up with girls, etc. The bullied party was one of these hyper sensitive people you read a lot about now, who (despite being a gigantic world class athlete and multi millionaire) has too much anxiety to order a coffee or tell the waiter what they want to order. And he perceived those friendly overtures as bullying.

Anyway, one of the text messages was a meme with some scary text that the lawyer tried to interpret as a threat. I searched for this meme and found it: A deliriously happy dog being held by its equally happy owner with some incongruous text underneath. It amused me, and my avatar is the dog from that meme.

I meant what I said. He's technically usable in Old World, but there aren't rules for his mount (a Disc of Tzeentch, of course). I'd have to use it as a regular daemonic mount, and that's no fun.

I've been an Ork player since I first started back around 2008, so the current profile pic is something I found early on that wasn't just straight from codex art and it had just the right resolution for what I was looking for and I've had it ever since. Prior to my current one, I mainly had the Question from Justice League Unlimited since he was one of my favourite characters from the show.

Hmmm... I sense... sarcasm.

I took my avatar picture in youthful exuberance when I was at uni 25 years ago, when I had the energy to muck about dressing up and airsofting.

Has anyone thought about changing their Avatar?

Or perhaps the most horrible idea of asking the forum to suggest a more fitting avatar for them to use?

Every Christmas, DCMs at least did so, with themed avatars.

I changed mine at landmark postcount numbers. Although I forget which ones…

I already did when I switched to mostly playing Chaos. My original avatar (to go with my original handle) was my old Empire general.

Because I have a list, I'm checking it twice, and I have a wealth of scattershot and useless trivia on a wide range of topics. Really it's anyone's guess what I do and don't know.

I'm also at war with a squirrel.
