PDH wrote:The post battle sequence is always the fun bit with my usual cry of "Whoot my Heavy has a WS increase again!".
We have lots of house rules, if you roll a characteristic advance you can choose between the two options, no 4+. It makes your gang get real good a bit too quick, but the random advance rule is just frustrating and pointless. Woohoo the crackshot, marksman, fast shot guy has WS6 now but still BS2, greeeat! Character development is an rpg aspect and some degree of control is a core element of every good rpg. Sounds like he is going to be one tough cookie, I think a flamer would be cool, that way you can make his carapace look like a protective suit...like what a fire fighter would wear.
I had considered using this one as base model: I bought him a while ago just because I liked the look, but he's really thin around the waist and looks too much like a heavy. I wanted a badass ganger that leaves me more freedom to convert. Plus I want to convert every original Delaque model at some point and now it's time for one of my favorites: Which reminds me of that on ebay who didn't send me the ganger I bought from him (the last one I don't own): Update: Today I took a timeout from the archivist and exclusively worked on that new ganger. He had both his arms, holster and bag removed. The arms have been replaced with cadian ones. So I already have some shoulder pads on the guy. The right arm is the one with the flamer strapped over the shoulder. I removed the flamers whole barrel and tube. I'll convert it later on in order to give it a more unique look in line with the high grade gear of the rest of the gang. The left arm is a straight one without hand from the command sprue and I added a hand from a catachan heavy weapon team, that now holds a converted knife (behind his back grip pointing down, blade up). On his back he has a holster with a shotgun from the scout bike sprues. Oh right, the arms and gun holster are all magnetized to keep up with further advances and weapon purchases. I also removed all the details (belt, shirt, strap) from his front to make room for sculpting his carapace armor. The next step is sculpting the armor and a rebreather. When I'm done with that I'll decide on the final details and further equipment. Some preview pics for you:
And an impression from our last game: Felix' first time to wear the mask, his mom would be proud and he sure was proud too. Jericho had reminded him of his duty to the house and the emperor, before he had sent him running down that walkway on the seventh level to grab some loot from the core tower. "Don't look down boy!" That was Jacobus calling after him. He had already made it half way, when he saw a flash to his left and a las round passed by his head so close the sudden heat made his face prickle. Must have been the Delaque's sniper the other boys had talked about last night at the camp. That miserable son of a bitch with his fancy long barrel las rifle had quite a fearsome reputation. Felix ran faster. The boys had said he could see in the dark with is "infrerred" thingy and Felix had prayed to the emperor that this specific baldheaded bastard wouldn't be around, when they went looking for goodies. The second shot didn't go wide, it was right on target, but Felix had his name for a reason. The lucky one, that's what his name meant and the shot struck a thick chain hanging from the dome ceiling, leaving him unharmed. Even when the chain hit him in the side and made him trip, he got back to his feet right before the edge of the walkway. He was blessed, who would believe such luck? Out in the open, an infamous sniper failing to kill him twice, almost tripping over the edge into certain death, but he was still running and almost there! What could stop him?... A salvo of five shots from a heavy weapon rattled through the darkness... Felix slowly opened his eyes. There was a bright light that hurt his eyes. Was this it? Would he dine to the Emperor's right now, like his mother had always told him? Was she here too? "Mommy?" A voice unlike any he had ever heard, whispering and rasping, but he was sure benevolent at its core, answered him "Your mommy ain't here boy, unless you brought her to the fight." The light went out and Felix saw them, dark shapes slowly becoming more defined. Bald heads, pale skin, long coats looking like they were made from shadows...Delaque. "You sure damn lucky boy!" The same voice again, it belonged to the biggest guy, a heavy no doubt. "Didn't think we'd find more than a bloody smear and maybe a gun to salvage after I blew you of that walkway. Never seen a man walk away from such a fall, would have killed a scaly." "He's not exactly walking away from anything, Sclopp. The princeps will sell him to the guilders, if the boys' lunatic leader doesn't pay. And you know nobody ever pays for a green juve straight from the settlement!"
Poor Felix, survives a 17" fall just to get captured and be sold to the slavers, because Richie decided he wouldn't even pay his base cost for him. Cruel dead world, necromunda...

Like the look so far of the conversion although I don't know if it is the camera angle but the head position looks a bit stiff in 3rd picture like he is looking up with a bad neck don't want to be picky but thought I should mention it, kit wise he looks good and ready to kick ass.

Must be the angle. Even though some of the sculpts from that era aren't exactly anatomically correct masterpieces. Delaques have HUUGE hands to go with the ridiculous light bulb heads and 8" thick coats.
Is that some old GW paints there in the background I spy
Yep, new citadel paints left, Vallejo in the middle, old stuff to the right.

The new guy is shaping up nicely, though I would suggest angling the flamer arm out a bit so the gun barrel and face are looking in the same direction.

Nah, he's not supposed to be firing, he's listening to the fizzing and popping of his opponents flesh. I like the casual position, looking past the barrel and daring the next one to try attack him.

Thanks, the knife is important, much easier to conceal holding it that way and I'm imagining him to be waiting to slit some throat if anything comes through the wall of fire he created.

Thanks, I hoped people would like it, but there was precious little reaction to it apart from your comment. Of course I merely put the events of the game into my own words and can hardly expect a Pulitzer for it, but I thought it had a quite desperate mood fitting the hive. It wasn't my initial intent, but the tragic element dispelled my romantic perspective gave me a new angle on the events on the tabletop. I almost felt sorry for poor Felix. That's what I like about writing post battle reports as actual stories, it let's you think through the actual "events" hidden behind "oh no, not another !".

Thanks guys.
@Vit: The status is neglected, but not forgotten. She is my current painting project and I'll finish her before painting anything else, but I think it's been about two weeks since my last session. A combination of good video games, the final phase of my studies, demanding conversions and some petty real life demands are keeping me away, but not forever. I can feel the next "painting fit" coming up.

The Good Green: "Ok, That is incredible. Such attention to detail... I'm convinced you would benefit from a straight jacket ;~P Thanks for raising the bar."

I read your latest fluff piece just after getting back from Oz, while I was still in my 'too jetlagged to put thoughts into words' phase. I am, however, a big fan, and I really liked the empathy you conveyed with your heavy. Sorry for not commenting - I know first hand how disappointing it is if no one comments on writing. Ace work as always on the heavy - great to see your stuff again

Thx guys.
Another day without any hobby time, but at least I got some new goodies. A friend brought me three of the new vampire characters (actually one of the girls is from 2007, but new in fine cast) and an empire hellfire whatever gun. I hope to have time to mess with the new stuff tomorrow...
