Update:
I didn't intend to start yet another conversion, but I had very little time today so I decided rather to work on something not related with my current conversions, than doing nothing because there isn't enough time for any real conversion work.
So I started converting the new VC wight into a younger version of Inquisitor Tiberius Probitas. That was my plan for the miniature to begin with, but I wasn't whether to looks were apt for an inquisitor, definitely not a lord. So I decided that one version of him isn't enough anyway and that it would be interesting to portrait him in different stages of his life/carreer.
The amount of chainmail and overall medieval look fits perfectly with the time when Probitas actually became an inquisitor, after his masters death at the hands of the witch coven of Berlichingen.
So the conversion will depict a young and virile, recently promoted Probitas not yet having suffered the hardships of the decades to come, before he makes his entry in the storyline of our necromunda campaign.
I already chose the right weaponry and other replacement parts and I just have to make it all fit now. With a little bit of luck I'll finish the conversion tomorrow, but I'll take pics anyway.

Thanks I'm enjoying the idea too, let's see what it brings.
Update:
None really, the only time I would have had at my disposal today I spent at the customs office. Which is of course a good thing, because it means I picked up my delivery of tools from the US, the one Dstein made me order with his psychic shopping seduction skills.
Anyway stopping the rambling now, tomorrow is hobby day, getting up early doing as little non-hobby-related stuff as possible.

Hardly worth it, because I only ordered some small tools, nothing fancy, like your new badger renegade, but I'll comply anyway. Supply drop! Doc O'Briens weathering powder, Emkay tube cutter, assorted brass tubes, brass clamps, some other clamps, a set of drill bits, some pin vices and a micro part holder, extra fine saw blades and a flat square. This is actually just half of what I ordered, but the other half is identical, since I got one of each item for free. (Except the tubes and the tube cutter.) So much for that and now: Preview time! He isn't done yet, but I finalized the pose of his head and more importantly his arms, so this is pretty much what he'll look like. Just gotta add all the details and stuff. So here he is, the young Tiberius Probitas shortly before the climax of his campaign on Berlichingen.

I was actually planning to give/sell all the double items to a friend (except the brass clamps), I don't expect to run low the weathering powders that quickly.
Yes some of the tools were drenched in oil, most annoyingly the pic vices.

You know me and details, there lots of stuff I'm considering.
I'll report any findings regarding the quality of the powders, but that will take while I wouldn't know what to weather right now.
That was a pack of 5 different gauges of tubes, 3 of each.
My rod cutter is complete crap, the cutting wheel isn't properly centered and there is a position where it locks.

Update:
Tiberius is 99% done and I thought I'd let everyone have a look.
In the end it was a fun conversion and I'm pleased with the outcome of it, even though things didn't go as expected (then again when do they ever?).
This was intended to be an "as quick as possible" conversion just to provide some matter of much needed hobby success. Of course I made it much more complicated in the process, but that's what I have to do in order to find satisfaction.
I just decided to reduce the rambling about what I did exactly to a minimum and just say it was a whole lot more work than one would think from the final pictures.
While I kept the chest piece and legs widely as they came, a lot of work went into reducing the "ethereal cloak billowing in magical wind" effect. I had to take away big flaps on both sides. And shaping the leg armor to replace the wight's bat wing like armor pieces and make the lower body match the bulk of the added power armored arms, was quite a task. I had to file them down until they became translucent in the middle, bent them and glued them onto the thighs, which needed a lot of trimming to fit under the armor.
Another thing worth mentioning is that the very clear wind direction took a lot of consideration to integrate properly. Purity seals and cloth were all arranged at the right angles, cloak flaps were either bend around the parts of the model or like in the case of the "tome of witchcraft" I had to find something that fit snuggly into the arc of the cloak and went well with my other design choices.
Anyway, this was a lot of fun and there are only three more things to do:
Integrate the square base into a proper 40k base.
Fill the gaps/sculpt some detail on the shoulder pads.
And decide whether or not to attach that power shield in the shape of a buckler to back of his left hand. (I simply forgot to put it on for the photos and it will need some tiny power projectors buds on the sides, before I can finally decide about it.)
Tiberius "Iudex" Probitas, Inquisitor, Ordo Hereticus
Recruited from his former work as Arbites by Lord Inquisitor Raman Pathak, Tiberius was still one of many acolytes in the inquisitor's retinue, when they embarked to investigate an imperial distress call from the Berlichingen system. The planetary governor had called for help with cultist activity on the main world, Berlichingen V.
What sounded like a routine operation for Pathak's experienced and powerful forces turned into a complete disaster. The routing of the cultist cells quickly showed that it wasn't just a small network of rebels as assumed, but a planetwide coven harboring and worshipping a great number of witches, that the governor had failed or refused to see.
The eventual success of the campaign came at a very high price on all sides, but Inquisitor Pathak didn't even get to witness it. He suffered fatal injuries from the fight with the self-proclaimed witch-queen's council of psychers and left his mandate and retinue to the relatively young Tiberius Probitas.
Probitas soon ended the insurgency, when he beheaded the queen of witches, but he stayed on Berlichingen for another full year to mercilessly exterminate any remnants of the coven.
This period of public trials, that utilized torture as a means of investigation and punishment to equal degrees, shaped Probitas reputation within the ordo and the system of Berlichingen.
Due to his initial zeal and the need to prove himself a worthy successor of his master, Probitas has often been mistaken for a heedless fanatic or even a plain lunatic, he has actually proven to be a very sober-minded, yet brutally calculating agent of the throne, who knows his trade and that, when humanity's survival is constantly at stake, the end always justifies the means.
The miniature shows the young, virile and wrathful Tiberius right after his sudden promotion, when he stormed the coven's main fane to slay the witch queen.
Some time soon, I'll have to sit down and write up the detailed version of the story, as it's been in my head for a long time, got quite elaborate and might be worth the while.

Have to say was not sold on this on the early layout picture but now you have worked your magic (more like witchcraft ) and hey presto another stunning turn out, the thing I love about your creations is the amount of character you manage to put into the miniature.
Like Vik said you have to really look at this to work out exactly what has been done, everything blends and feels like it belongs which is the sign of a well thought out and executed conversion.

Fantastic conversion, Baiyuan!
I agree with Vik, it's very hard to see all the work you put in because it fits so well! I especially like the face of head that you've chosen!
A few of my thoughts: WARNING: They happen to be quite nitpicky and preferential (opposed to things like "don't forget that moldline"), so feel free to smile and nod and not do anything about them
There are a few things that detract from your "young, virile, newly promoted" look. The biggeset is the condition of his equipment: that the chainmail is holey (though not holy, to my knowledge) and his cloak is ragged. Perhaps they are hand-me-downs? IMHO, laurels usually indicate special service or accomplishments and wouldn't be found on a rookie inquisitor (or perhaps inquisitors do whatever the fersluggin' they want ). Also, the model appears to be bald which doesn't lend itself to a youthful look. Maybe he shaves his head, but it's hard to tell with no paint. A little fluffy, I know, but it was something I noticed.
I think it would help the overall feel to have a few more grimdarky bits. The power armor, and powersword are the only obvious scifi bits, and a few =][= symbols hiding around. Again, more of a preference than a real criticism.
Keep up the great work! Looking forward to seeing some paint!

The state of clothing could be down to battle damage after all I would imagine even being a young inquisitor he would ruin is armour from time to time, the lack of hair is due to space lice after all those buggers will suck the life out of you.
As for laurels he would have earned these on his way even early on due to achievements and accomplishing things on his way, they may not be of the highest standard but rewards as to motivate.

Thanks for the compliments.
I'm cool with nitpicking, I do it all the time. A conversion needs to be waterproof to really leave a mark in ones imagination. Half-baked, rash ideas ruin the depth of the character.
Rawson, you raise some valid points there and LDD already answered some, but I'm going to answer them individually, since I had hoped for such questions about what seems to be plot-holes. I actually thought about all of that long before I finished the conversion.
If you've read my earlier fluff about Berlichingen, you know that it's an imperial world that clings to it's customs and has a very dominant medieval theme with bits and bobs of high tech surfacing here and there, but an overall archaic style. Berlichingen has a huge impact on Pathak's/Probitas' retinue, that is why there isn't a lot of typical 40k stuff on him. Another reason is that at this age Tiberius was more the warrior type of inquisitor, he hadn't parted with his henchmen ways yet and would only later start to utilize gear with a wider scope of purposes.
The laurels are of course in general a sign of achievement and I could picture Lord Pathak give them to his favorite apprentice for his immaculate performance, but they mainly serve the function of a ward. The surface of every leaf is inscribed with hexagrammic ward sigils of microscopic scale, so its function is a little like Magneto's helmet's, it protects from certain psychic abilities.
The damage on cloth and mail is of course battle damage and doesn't say anything about the length of service, but the hardship of the campaign. Every inquisitor would keep his gear in top shape, but in a prolonged deployment without the right facilities or materials full repairs would have to wait.
Another thing is that Tiberius is still wearing most of the armor he wore as an acolyte. I imagine he wouldn't discard the gear he's used to in the middle of a campaign, but rather use his new status to improve what he has as far as possible. That is also the explanation for the seemingly inconsistency in armor styles, the legshields and power armored arms were a recent addition to his armor.
The baldness is the result of age! When I say it's the young Tiberius, I mean before rejuvenation treatments and severe augmentation to replace aging organs. So he's like 50.
I generally can't imagine a 20 year old inquisitor. After finishing schola progenium or some other facility I'd say nobody goes straight into the service of the inquisition, they have to be discovered first. I think it's the most fun part of inquisitor retinues that they are gathered from all spheres of life and therefore consist of specialists, each with his own story.
Tiberius finished school, then served as Arbites for years and only then became part of the retinue, where he again served years before he rose through the ranks to even became an acolyte.
Maybe it's the chinese culture that has an influence on me here. One has to "visit" his master for at least three years before he's even allowed to call him his master and the mandarins in ancient times often weren't fit to take there final state exams before they were 60 or 70.
Learning the trade of the inquisition I imagine to be similarly time consuming to reciting and discussing the 13 confucian classics.
Viktor von Domm wrote:that raises for me another question... how can someone wear powerarmor and not have the SM backpack to power the...er...powerarmor??? did there be a fluff update as to make this possible?
Gotta run now, I'll answer this after work, cheers!

Baiyuan that as an explanation is first rate, however you did not answer baldness for this I still take credit due to the space lice being an ongoing problem across all galaxies and no real cure has been found to eliminate said critters.
I love the overall look of this as a character and the costume and armour effected by intenseness and extreme battles add to the characters own look, indeed he would look more worn and weathered due to the harsh treatment and surroundings he finds himself in so as to the age and look surely would take its toll therefore ageing him much before his time.

Terrific day on the academic side of my life, but no time for the hobby. I have finished the shoulder pads on Tiberius yesterday though. I chose not to add any further detail, the model looks quite busy as it is already, no need to overdo it.
So tomorrow going to build him a proper base and I'm considering to basecoat him and try to paint within a week, could give me a motivational boost on the painting side.

Let's call it creative constipation and I get it whenever I think about things so much, I forget to actually do something.
We talked about it before, my expectations/standards are often unrealistic when it comes to painting. So every now and then it's time for a therapeutic project to flush the system clean, so it's more about releasing the pressure by just letting it flow all out (I hope you could escape my metaphor before it hit the fan and got ugly... ).
So I'm skipping the colonoscopy and go straight for the clyster, yes I think that's the right step...

translated: You stare at it for days and let yourself talk yourself out of it
To use your metaphorical internalization: You need more creative FIBER
My advice.....force yourself to cut something, or glue something when you don't want to.
If you only do things that you are comfortable with, then you can never improve your skills beyond where they currently are.
