Lol. Cheers buddy. I'm not a huge fan of the character but he's a beast in game, a punchy magic damage character which is a real rarity. Diana has her magic sword of course, and Hawkman has a once per game magic strike, but he sits between them at the ideal cost in game.
Gitsplitta wrote:Penguin is awesome!
Thanks much fun.
Yorkright wrote: Nightwing needs a few more leg days. Billboards look awesome but I have a question, do the cyber penguins have actual rules?
Nope. I use one as an Ammo objective for my penguin gang. Maybe this is WayneTech?
CommissarKhaine wrote:Cyber penguins ftw . Leg is looking off to a nice start.
Shapely, right?

No, laser wings pewpewpew
Dr H wrote:Ja, Penguin looks cool.
The last couple of days have held deliveries of excitement.
TIE Silencer came, as I finally found one for under £25, as did Black Adam, so that's evil magic thumper at the ready too.
FedEx brought me a big box of Mantic:
I'll be reviewing these anon for the May issue of Initiative Magazine. First impressions are that DB2 is very slick, and KoW is a huge bunch of stuff.
What with the wife being off and it being her birthday very little actual geek done.
But not a total slacker; I did get a bit more work on the cyberpenguin
Which is pretty cool.
Then I got a box from Mabrothrax.
An early 40th present (for me, not the wife).
He's a big old acolyte of Papa nurgle.
And he liked my orange nurgle idea.
So, as far as I can tell, he's sent me at least the Nurgle half of the new 40k box.
Because apparently 40k is a way of life, and one that you'll never escape.
Stay tuned, gang, looks like we're getting back into Warhammer...

Must admit I'm looking forward to you stepping back into the Grimdark, even if it's just for a bit! Will you be taking your established style into it, or trying something different? Either way, I'm excited to see what you come up with. What's in the KoW box? I don't recall seeing anything about a new starter set, but I haven't been following Mantic that closely lately.

Well, I was admiring Yorkright's and commented how it was weird that there were no rust coloured DG factions. The nearest is Putrid Choir, who are decaying green with rust accents. I like the idea of doing DG from an orange prime, washed with smoke and sponged different crusty greens and browns. Essentially, Mabrothrax is charging me with this as my task
The Battle of the Glades starter for KoW is huuuuuge'
80 plastics (2 full units for each faction that can each be built in two different ways) and a metal leader with multiple load outs also. Good value at £50.

It's a grimdark truth: you'll never leave.
And pics of the Dreadball stuff: very high production values, feels like a glossy boardgame.
Love the double sided board for multiplayer

Well, judge below yeah I'm impressed by both boxes for different reasons but I'll go into more depth once I've played each.
@Cam I know nothing about the state of the game tbh. I'll build and paint as I see fit.
Speaking of which ...
Base sprayed with Army painter necrotic flesh (equivalent to Nurglings green) with a wash of Camoshade. Forgeworld rust powder and hair spray for the rust, which I've never tried before. It's good to push myself. I know I said I'd do an orange base, and I had planned to do that over the necrotic base, but I ended up quite liking this. Thinking pus yellow eyes.
So I have the half of Dark Imperium and a squad of pox walkers to do.
No idea what to add or need to be playable in any way, not that I'm that fussed but just want some interesting toys.. Might try to scrounge some skaven bells or flagellant bits for the full putrid choir look.
I got some other bits done too. I built Mayor McCheese, with a ridiculous condiment gun:
It is perhaps a bit big, so I'm thinking of cutting the barrel away completely back to the nozzle and the rectangular section.
Talking of new things, I'm going to try working with acrylic:
Wife got a fitbit. I see futuristic sign from the packaging.
Made White Rabbit new ears
And McD dude into a Fry Guy
Flippin' burgers for his 5 and dime.
Plus, first street walker for Street Wars.
With that hat, I reckon she's from Dallas. I think I'll call her... Debbie.
Still some cleanup to do but she's almost there.
2 steps forwards, one step back, and all that,
Graven

Like that Plague Marine a lot, proper good'n'grimy Nurlge stuff. It could do with a very sparing accent colour on stuff like the eye lenses, but I'm not sure what to suggest. A bright pale blue might contrast nicely, as might a strong yellow. Not sure though.

I do love a rust monster, it's true.
Fry guy was a happy accident, actually - I knocked off the top of his tiny brittle resin cleaver.

Thanks mate. You touch on an interesting point actually: I can lay my hands on a lot more of these (3 more sets potentially) but the lack of conversion potential bothers me. Thoughts?

Thanks matey. I like the idea of a bright pus yellow but I worry that it won't be enough of a contrast. Red just seems a bit conventional so maybe blue, aye.
Work continues apace on Nightwing:
Just building up the muscles individually; only the foot left to do now. I actually did the upper muscles yesterday, then layered over again. I spend a lot of time looking at the work of the mighty Kev White (Hasslefree minis) on Facebook, where you can really see the progression from wireframe, through to dolly, and layered up to full model. Still raging that I missed a workshop with him last year
Newly chopped gun for Mayor McCheese, looking much better, but no decent pic. Just have to wait post prime now.
And on that subject, Fry Guy has his spatula:
Imagine how that's going to draw blood...
Got Black Adam (woo!)
Lovely model, lovely rules, and gave him a nice broken Ankh base to fit the fluff.
Finally figured out how I am basing Carrie Kelly (from DKR)
I'll likely use the same method for my AO bats, also.
Oh, and I thought, well, you can't very well have a choir of one, now can you? He'll get lonely.
Wife off to various birthday beauty treats this afternoon, so got to try Dreadball with the boys, too.
Cue lots of strops. Just like real sport!
It's a lot of fun and the intro game is excellent, if slightly frustrating to the older lad as he immediately wanted to do other things. Very fast, really self contained. A game we'll be able to play of an evening easily, and portable (and accessible) enough that I can just chuck it in a bag and get a game in an hour with a mate. Heartily approve.
Because I need more stuff to play

It won't last. I'm in denial about school on Monday.
Part of the reason they're going to take longer is I'm determined not to block paint them. I want them to look individually crusty.
Speaking of which, my first Putrid Chorister seems to be done, I think.
So much powder. So much acrylic medium. I'm quite enjoying experimenting with stuff though.
Automatically Appended Next Post: The eyes are more yellow than they seem in the pic, but I'm still worried they just blend in. I'd like to make them a bit more pus filled. Maybe some yellow glaze? Not sure. Not sold on blue tbh. Red? Bright Green?
Lots of little things done today, not modelling but loads of tidying. Sleeving cards, reorganizing folders, and so on. One of my mates managed to pick me up the 2018 event promo for Walking Dead from Salute, so that's a bonus
Nearly ready to start the next big push,
Till then

If you are not sold on the puss eyes, green would work.

Cheers. It's ok so far
Yorkright wrote: Very grimey just the way I like them.
backatcha. Cheers for advice, as I know bugger all about 8th. I may have a line on a pile of Plaguebearers, which seem to be nasty if I can get hold of enough of them.
I redid the eyes, with yellow glaze and then a dot of pure white.
Slightly blurry hurried 7am pic, annoyingly. Much happier though, and happy enough to go with this. I also drilled out the barrel and smoked around the edges.
As I mentioned, I don't really know anything about Force Organisation in 8th, but here's my initial impressions, with a little (read: a lot) of help from Yorkright
HQ
Considering kitbashing/scratchbuilding a Daemon Prince of Nurgle: I hate the stupid faced model, and want one with wings. The Forgeworld one is nice enough I suppose but I'm on a budget here, and he doesn't have wings either. I'm not planning on spending much, ultimately.
The easy-build DG lord seems like a well priced fellow, and comes with 3 more DG to builk up the numbers.
I like the Tallyman mini, and I get an excuse to sing "Come Mr Tallyman, Tally me Banana" a lot, which fits the Choral theme
Doesn't look like I need another Sorceror, and Yorkright assures me that one Blightbringer is enough. The fluff for Choir is lots of them but I can't really see any game advantage either. Not entirely sold on the other HQ options from a game perspective but a couple of the sculpts look interesting.
Troops
It seems like getting a 15 strong unit of Death Guard going makes sense, so that means 8 more of them, which is fine: achievable and fun. Again, 5 easy build ones are peanuts, really, and there's always green stuff. A friend's offered me the Ltd Ed ones for a fairly sensible price but, really, I'm not that bothered. I might see what marine junk I have lying about also still that I can corrupt horribly.
The 20 Pox walkers I have should do me for now. I'd like, as I say, horde of plaguebearers but it seems like there's no point in fewer than 20, and realistically the full 30 are needed. That's pricey, so I may go for another unit of Pox Walkers and/or easy builds and convert like crazy. I'll need more infantry ultimately, regardless, I suppose. I might see if I can scrabble up some flagellant and skaven bits, bells, flails, chains, gongs etc, so we have a discordant clanky shambling horde.

Terminators look rubbish on paper to me, especially the Blight ones. Shame really, like the scythes. May just get some for giggles, or do a HQ lord in terminator armour.
FA
Bloat Drones are great, really like the model, seem to be good against infantry, not against tanks. Maybe one, or possibly two more, insofar as something's got be in that Fast Attack slot, eh?
Hvy
Seems like Nurgle generally are going to struggle again a mech/tank army. Boo. However, those Myphtic Blight tank things look ok, and are again pretty cheap in £ so I'll get one and see how I feel. They're unit size 1-3 anyway.
Thoughts? Am I babbling (more than usual) here?
