Hopefully, hopefully. Yeah. I've decided just to go full Barbara.
Theophony wrote:Asylum gate and guard tower look great , but with all the McDonalds Joker crew, where’s the abandoned burger joint/safe house for his gang to operate out of?
I've already got a Big Joe's Donut store and Mr J's Titan hotdogs, plus a texmex, a Chinese, and a pop-up cafe in a shipping crate. I think my citizens fast food needs are more than catered for however, I do have plans for Mayor McCheese
More work on the Asylum. Gates have been basic shaded.
Still lots to do before I start picking out details.
And the tower one step further, along with some details.
Figured out how to base the fences, some air dry clay from that other legend of the league, Cam:
Those will get primed tomorrow hopefully.
And another project.
My new Nightwing is missing a leg, but I never particularly like him standing on a tactical gargoyle anyway.
So...
I figure this is a good way to dip my toe (sorry) into body sculpting - I'm essentially just making a mirror image of the existing leg, after all. So the paperclip has been bent into shape as an armature, and next a simple layer of green stuff. I've been following a lot of what Kev White (Hasslefree) does, so going to try to put it into practice.
Tomorrow, a day of errands. But hopefully a game of xwing or DCU with the boys. At least we can just leave it set up and locked in the dining room, a rare treat.
But, excitingly, in the evening I finally get to try out Street Wars NYC (as well as get some promo figs) so that should be good. Expect a batrep!
Later

glad you approve. Angle... yeah... angle...
Well, not got any Geeking done today beyond priming the fences. Funnily enough, that is often the way when the kids are off. It's like parenting requires effort or something.
But, yesterday was a very gamey day.
Xwing with kids, scum chasing down Mara Jade and Agent Kallus (damn Imperial politics)
Lots of fun. The Empire's finest escaped... just. Eldest really getting into his Scum, which is great. Corrupt the youth. Mould them... in my image. Graven image
Also, last night, got to play Street Wars NYC (from the excellently named Funky Skull Games), as well as getting my hands on test casts of some of the new models:
Based on The Warriors, these will be online store exclusives, rather than on the KS because laws. Still, very lovely sculpts, and perfectly usable in game as rivals to be mugged, dealers to buy drugs from, or as extra/create your own gangers.
Straight away, it's visually impressive, with great sculpts that capture that 70s vibe. More generally, card layout is very intuitive, although the tiny text on special rules means that it can be easy it overlook special abilities, especially ones that trigger before characters activate. Less obvious is the weapon sizes, which is a bit muddy at times: it's fairly accurate as a representation of what a character is holding, but sometimes it's a little blurry (not convinced that length of chain is a small weapon...)
One thing I love about this game is that it's not just about the fighting. In every scenario, there's random event cards you can use to change the outcome of situations, side quests to tag, bag and blag your way through the streets, dealers to score Flash from, janes to roll, bricks and bottles to be found, buildings to smash and grab - and always cops to be avoided.
There are a lot of really interesting mechanics in the game. Abilities are dice size, d6- d10. Funk is Activation, Skill is Do Stuff, Fight is Melee hit, Tough is damage prevention, Ranged is Throw. To do anything - and I mean anything, even activation - you need to roll 4+. This is intially a little confusing but you soon get over it, and actually becomes part of the game's charm and character, because essentially it's the only rule you have to remember. It's very much in the spirit of fluff over crunch, which is key to this game. Sitting down with the designer, it's obvious that simple, fun, streamlined gameplay is key, and its got that in spades.
Each turn, players dice off ( d6) to determine initiative. Each character has to roll Funk to activate, as mentioned; on a 2 or 3, they can activate but only to move up to 6" - swagger about, basically. On a 1, however, they're just too busy, or too cool, bro. They lost their activation, and you lose the Initiative. It's this constant to and fro that really gives the game its flow, but there's a couple of neat tactical twists. Firstly, you can't pass the Initiative, which at times you may find you want to - but if you the big man, you gotta own it, that's just the way it is. Also, your Leader has 3 Command Points (and Lieutenants have 1) - the ability to make one ganger have an extra, automatic activation, themselves included. In a typical 6 turn game, it gives you a wealth of tactical choices. Not only that, it's possible to activate relatively, if a rival comes within 4" of you. But then you risk losing your activation, if you lose your skill check. Decisions, decisions.
Yeah, the designer's terrain (mix of Sarissa and Multiverse)is stunning. It's a fast, furious game. It's messy, in a really good way. Combat is brutal, and if it goes wrong, you are down and the cops are all over your crew. But a lucky, plucky ganger can make a name in any rumble if the throwdown goes down, and with a campaign system that pushes and promotes your crew, it's well worth taking risks and playing the odds. Great fun, and more than just beer and pretzels. Maybe a mustard coated pretzel.
I got totally owned and I loved every minute of it. Now I need to make some Loot. Some weapons. Some hos...

American eBay, alas :/ Would love one myself. Yeah, Iain's board is cracking. A man after your own heart, making boards out of flooring
Bits and bobs over the last couple of days.
Tidied up the asylum, only to add the resin gargoyle left over from Nightwing's base. Typical. Started a couple of Gotham Billboards; these are the backs:
Tags and weathering to follow.
But more importantly, had a great game of DCU with the boys.
#1 went very teen titans - Cyborg, Starfire, Kid Flash, Ravager and Hawkman - #2 ran Deadshot, Deathstroke, Lobo and Johnny Quick.
Rather than just a plain brawl, they were trying to take out each other's HQ marker, so more tactics required.
As a result, it went to a draw, with them both taking out the enemy hq in the same turn.
And then, back to the Asylum, which is pretty much done. Warning: pic dump.
Parts used spoilered below

Sure thing:
Primed Black (car primer)
Zenithal Grey (ditto)
Sponge Gauss Green
Ryza rust mixed with VJ Smoke, Dipped in dirty paint water in recesses.
Alternate streaks of thinned Camoshade, Earthshade, Fleshtone and Sepia, allowed to bleed into each other.
Then, streaks down from all the rivets using the now very dirty paint water.
Pretty much it.

Got a couple of billboards done today. I hated these the last time I painted them, and so I approached them in a different way:
Much better
So a very small update, sorry about that. But I have treated myself to some new toys: Kylo Ren's Tie Silencer for X-Wing, Black Adam for DCU, and Raven for DCU/BMG all on order. Plus card holders, because my xwing upgrades have got slightly out of control.

 Signing my work
Not much done today; it has been a sculpty, buildy kinda day, when not rewiring and putting up new lights for the boss.
A custom base for SHAZAM! I'm sure it will be horrible to paint, but still. Why not eh?
Started on Nightwing's leg:
Rolled out a sausage of GS, flattened and wrapped around, then smoothed into rough shape with clay shaper and a bit of vaseline. Used the mirror leg and the cover of DC #600 (Hush) as guides.
And for no particular reason, a cybernetically enhanced penguin.
Just needs a rocket now. Straps for that are in place already, as you can see
I've also gap filled Arkham Origins Batman (still no idea what I'm doing for hia base), and built Mad Hatter, Tweedledum and Dee, and started White Rabbit - only to discover one of her ears is missing. But given that they're disastrously designed anyway (separate bunny girl bunny ears? Really?????) I'll just make new ones from paperclips and GS. I also drilled and pinned Carrie Kelly (Robin from DKR) through the hip because KM can't make easy to assemble female metals. Also threw together a street walker for Street Wars and based the 3 warriors. Nothing worth sharing, just keeping y'all in the loop need another civilian, another dealer and a couple of cops, though the warriors plug gaps. Probably just reuse BMG cops, same basic aesthetic.
Annoyingly, my Raven is out of stock, delaying my Firestorm order. So much for ETA 1-5 days.
Becuase I don't have enough toys...
