Lookin' flash Bebop! I like the sense of coherency between these guys, despite them being quite different. The highlights really make the natural aspect of them look quite real. Oh and out of interest can I ask what they're fighting for freedom against? It better not be the Tau

I'm glad to find this blog, those Kroot are looking great, I absolutely love the poisonous tropical theme you went with. I wish I had seen that idea for doing the meat accessories that come on the Kroot sprue, it's brilliant. I've been doing just simple reds and oranges to represent generic butchered meat, but your method of painting it as part of another exotic animal is great. The added Tau equipment and armor also looks great, I found that mixing the high tech with the low tech can provide some very pleasing aesthetics when it comes to Tau/Kroot. I did one myself a while back:

One idea I had was to make a Kroot sniper using the gun from the Tau sniper drones. I think you would be able to pull it off better than me, if you were interested at all. If you're looking to create a counts-as list that doesn't require a lot of models, I have had a great time using Dark Eldar. The other idea I had was to use henchmen-heavy Grey Knights. The model I posted was actually going to be a Jokearo Weaponsmith. The Grey Knights list gives you lots of ideas for using converted Kroot models, and it sounds like you were interested in going Space Marines anyway. Before I went with Dark Eldar I had originally envisioned a counts-as Kroot list with Inquisitor Coteaz as a Kroot in a stealth suit, Great Knarlocs as Dread Knights, Kroot as Henchmen, which gives you lots of options to model a single Kroot (weaponsmiths, acolytes, mystics, death cult assasins, crusaders). Your converting and painting skills would be more than adequate to be able to properly represent all the different infantry options in that list.

Thanks, bebop, I'm a fan of your projects (I used to run Kroot Mercenaries versus Catachan Jungle Fighters in the old Jungle-Fight Codex days). It's a shame that these armies were forgotten once fifth edition came around. I'm looking forward to see more of your work, although your coast-to-coast traveling schedule boggles my mind on how you actually get things done!

Lol Oaka. I don't. I'm known for extremely long disappearing acts and fizzled out inspiration. Note the dark eldar. But the plus side is that the time way from painting allows me to pre paint in my mind. I've been dreaming this Kroot scheme for months so it was a joy to paint ill keep em coming

@ steingass, those aren't bad drums. Rock SMS though obviously. I use normally Yamaha drums. They are a bit tighter sounding

Also, I'm back in la for 3 days so that means one mini will get done hopefully. Here's his wip pics. Had to restart the sword. Initially was going to do a looted yellow bad moon chains word, but instead I'm opting for the easier way out and will do the starwars esque Camo instead to tie it in with the rest of the stuff so far. Here's number 4 of the Kroot force. Wip obviously, much to do.
Thoughts please!

@ Dr H. Thanks, the dots are an easy way to add some exotic texture to alien skin. Something I've been doing awhile now is adding detail with different strokes and textures.

@ sky, thanks sir. I like the pose too except for the pad on his knee, I think it's awkwardly large. But it's too late. On to learning fom my mistakes.

@ Vik Yuuuuup. Sadly, I got pretty far and somehow missed them. I knew you'd notice. Actually, there's a few here and there on this mini. Pretty much a product of building him then leaving for 2 weeks. It's why I can only do one thing at a time, otherwise my momentum is shot and I never finish anything lol. What I'll try to do though vik, is paint them as if they are part of the grenade, well see how we'll I can mask it lol but I'm with ya pal, mold lines are the true enemy of the imperium. Or in this case, zataxallarian Kroot rebels.

clever plan! that is the spirit... making a winng situation ot of a misstake

but i think your painting skills are capable of this... i still marvel at and fondly remember your see through cape you made for these eldar....that sure is some skill that should get rid of mouldlines via painting

Well, what a morning. I actually set my alarm for 7:30 am to ensure that I'd have the time to finish this bad boy before jet setting back to NYC!! I'm not sure if that's sad or not. Lol. Well needless to say, the 4th Kroot rebel is finished! Under the time pressure, I'd say he turned out pretty cool. I used a different pink to mix in with the purple. It has more white in it thus a cooler shade than the previous three. I like it though, and I kept his belly nice and warm as a belly should be! I've included some more group shots as well. Thoughts please! Would love to know what ya guys think of the progress!

Cheers!

I m not a fan of the shoulderpads, but that's personal taste. Overall, great kit. Each one is full of character and life.

Thanks guys! Much appreciated the thoughts. Vik I think I was able to hide the line on the grenade not so badly.
Sky, thanks mate
Stein it's still Thursday lol. But I gotta go to Boston tomorrow:(
Brian thanks for input. What's bothering you about the shoulder pads? I'm assuming you mean the white ones? Just curious about your thoughts anything you'd do differently?
On that note, I need to start to develop some kind of rhyme to my reason here. As in, I'm going to use a space marine counts as army. I think. To be frank, list building is about as fun as dentistry, so I could use some major help and creative juice in this regard. Is a space marine codex the way to go? I want to limit my troop count and also provide lots of different troops for cool beastly conversions. Ideas wanted!

Also, I'd meet you in Boston for lunch or something, since that's where I live, but I will be out in Western Mass this weekend.
