New stuff, i added the shoulder plate because i think it looks badass. Really i did it to tie him to the army, i thought there would be way to much green on there and not enough red from the armor. I cant decide if i want to use chain to hook it to the belt or sculpt a leather strap to add to brown tones to the model. Thoughts?

The wounds are on as well as some scarring on the shoulder and stomach. I may go over them again but its really only the exit wound on his back shoulder that im not totally satisfied with. I think the wounds wont look quite right without painting them im sure but im concerned the gashes look too clean. I also left most of his back untouched as a subtle message that he never runs from a fight.

The basing isnt final as well but i wanted to get input, i do plan on adding sand to the blank area as well as surrounding the base of the temple brick.

Definitely a nice sculpt ! because its so nicely done, i must point out one minor thing that would other wise make it perfect.

Is he posed as if he just made a horizontal slash with his axe?

Horizontal with a slight upward angle, yep. The left hand should look as if he's primed for the next blow as well.

Ah as i pictured it yes.

K when the body is on 2 different lvls of height , this case your left foot on a higher platform etc etc
the balance following the the horizontal swing have to transfer along into the right feet. The leg itself would have around 10% degrees
turned --> wards, with most noticeably the feet itself be atleast 15 degrees -> way in order to support the balance / follow up of the swing 0.o

One easy way to test this is step on the stairs, with a 2L milk jug and swing it like the axe xD
*
The angle is most noticeable in pic 1, while the center of gravity is noticeable in pic 2.
Basically right now the body is floating between the 2 legs , without leaning into the higher spot with left leg , nor
is it shifting the balance with the right leg. I cannot see the figure in person, but it does seem like from where the
pelvic bone is, the left leg is alittle shorter .

Yea, I see what your saying. During the concept stage i had intended to give his core more of a twist in line with the strike but i think that fell through just trying to get the musculature right to begin with.

The legs were a bit awkward as well, there's no pics of it but i actually had to cut the lower body in half long the center line in order to achieve a better look for the leg positioning. This inadvertently shortened one of his legs fairly dramatically which i tried to correct as best as i could.

In your opinion, would rotating the rear foot out from the ankle alleviate a bit of the issue? That's the only thing i can think of that i could correct at this stage without wrecking it too much (more).

I can see what he's talking about, but to my mind I kinda like the idea that the ork is just swinging wildly enjoying himself without really caring about his foot placement. Not to mention I feel that others will be impressed as I am with your sculpting and won't notice.

hmm... I have no experience with GS ( little to none )
but a fast way to fix the situation without ruining the already beautiful sculpt would be.

to choose his center of balance to either:

a) lean into the left foot / stairs ( then the leg length
issue becomes more important )

b) shift the balance into right leg. ( then the right feet issue becomes important ) One direct way to fix this (since the feet seems to be seperate piece by itself atm? ) is to simply reposition it, make the feet into 2 parts, so the *toe area? sorry i dont know body parts -_- is hugging the ground for balance transfering support.

*disclaimers:

o_o im only commenting because i absolutely love this sculpt, and personally think it would be perfect with just minor tweaks.
Its by no means do i think i can do even 5% of what he is done, infact i dont know how to sculpt!
So to the fans, im not bashing or anything!

Thanks! That's actually what i was going for exactly, i wanted him to seem like a wounded mad dog really. I still want it to make sense from an anatomical standpoint.

Well it's hard to see i think but the right toes are cut off with the intention of modeling a trench in the base as if thats a launch point for his frenzy. The other thing is that in my mind he's running full tilt at some poor sap so i wonder if the momentum of a charge could mitigate some of the perceived balance issues. I'll try to rotate the foot though tonight if im not to engrossed in Dawn of War II!

Edit for Luna's Edit: I love the criticism it's the prime reason i love posting my stuff here in hopes to further my abilities. So if anyone gets flamed by anyone for suggestions they'll feel the full force of my 15 or so orks! Yea....scary

Thanks guys!

I've used card a bit for armor segments or the thinner stuff for parchment but other than that no not really. Sounds like you have a handle on what you gotta do though, with getting the appropriate size rods/tubes and building outward.

Update inc in an hour or so.

So this is why i love posting here. I obviously see my own stuff all the time so little things can get overlooked. As LunaHound so kindly pointed out, the balance and positioning was a bit off. I didnt really see it until it was pointed out and it turned out to be an easy fix. Or at least i think it looks infinately more dynamic this way.

I ended up simply pivoting the rear foot out based on the suggestion and i really do think it helped a lot! I also continued work on the shoulder plate, i still have to connect the back hence no pic. The other thing i added which is in progress you'll notice is what im thinking will be a power cable connecting the main unit of the weapon to the little blade on the end. Sort of unnecessary i know but the way i see it is it makes the swing look more dynamic. Let me know what you think. Your comments have already improved this guy a great deal in my eyes.

This shot was just for fun, i almost put the time in the photoshop some hands in front of pic like it was a view of some poor bastard about to get cut down.

It's not done but it will be a power cable connecting the main unit of the chainblade to the little buzzsaw thing at the end. Pretty much just to give it more motion and also the opportunity to paint it w/e color i want at the end depending on what i feel it needs.

Just an experiment really, if i dont like how it turns out i'll scrap it.

I got a slugga mostly painted with a new color scheme so i thought i would post it. I need to work on my lighting situation pretty bad but heres what i got.

You can see it better in my gallery using the zoom. Its way different than the two i displayed earlier in the project but this is exatly what i want pretty much. Like i said the lighting is terrible but i hope you like the new colors.

Thanks guys, it's just Vallejo bronze, super thinned chestnut ink, more bronze (a tad drybrushing but mostly a highlight), and a small dusting of mithril silver.
