Maddening Mutant Boss of Chaos

My next goal is to finish my Lord of Change conversion.
The concept here is a mini tornado of cable, sinew, gore and IG detritus, topped by a double-headed flamer -- a swirling storm of daemonic energy
(The Lord of Change comes equipped with daemonic flight, various "shooting" powers, and considerable combat heft.)
The project started, you may recall, with a very basic armature:
and
and
Over the last few evenings, I've been adding a "gun arm," a " ccw arm," the first few strands of cable, and a lot of greenstuff. Producing:
(There's a good look at the gun arm)
and
and
and (a pretty good look at the ccw arm)
and (from behind -- with some cabling)
This is very much WIP. The final skin/texture will look nothing like what you see up and down the torso of the whirlwind. Lots and lots more greenstuff, cable, imperial wreckage and so on will be layered in and on.
But I thought you might be interested in seeing the thing at this skeletal stage.

Looking a bit like a tzneech spawn for now. Though I have a hard time seeing sculpts and scratchbuilds with the final fruits of the labor in my minds eye.
A bit more structure (and a good heap of paint to tie it all together ^_-) and I'll be able to give a better crit!
Good work so far though. You're not helping this 'I WANNA SCULPT' kick my minds been on lately that I've been pushing to the back of my brain....

I don't know if you had this idea or not but anyway for your LoC to have the souls of the IG soldiers within the vortex I think you can you the wraiths from VC as spirits or could make your own

Actually, I had been thinking along these same lines, as you'll see.
Progress on the Lord of Change has been sporadic, and slow. This guy is so fiddly, and I'm just kind of picking at it, a bit here, a bit there, so he's materializing very slowly. But I have been making progress.
First, a look from behind and above, to give a sense of overall "anatomy" of this vortex of flux:
Then, a slightly different angle. I want to try showing the Lord of Change feeding parasitically off of the imperial corpses below (more greenstuff to come here, as elsewhere -- feeder tendrils and so on).
And from the side:
And a closeup on some of the souls sucked up into the vortex:
and
This is not yet done. I have detail sculpting up and down the whirlwind left to do. At this stage I'm still experimenting with texture, "skin," and details -- seeing what works, what doesn't.
Any thoughts or comments?

Quick tangent. The league in which I'm currently playing requires each player to model up three objectives on 40mm bases.
In keeping with my "haunted IG regiment as chaos demons" army theme, I've modeled up a series of rather grim crucifixion vignettes. I figure these poor wretches represent those stout souls among the IG that are resisting damnation. Hence the Lords of Chaos are punishing them, stringing them up, keeping them alive via unnatural sorceries, and using their torment to channel in energy from the Warp to sustain the demons' presence in the Materium.
Thus:
and
The greenstuff at the victims' feet will be painted as blue-tinged flames, modeled in 8-point circles of chaos, representing sacred circles...

Played a great game on one of my store's favorite table last night. I'll prepare and post a batrep soon, but in the meantime, here are a few pictures from the front.
The table is a swamp table -- very atmospheric, with tons (well, at least, 100+ pounds) of clear resin and richly modeled flora and fauna, both submerged and partially surfaced.
Here are some of my horrors and a demon prince, materializing in the muck:
And here horrors face off against two squads of grenadiers (beautifully painted by Matt Liddic, one of my favorite local players to play):
Here's a closer look:
(Unfortunately, it was Matt's turn. The horrors were entirely pasted!)
Here some plaguebearers greet more grenadiers:
And finally, here's a (wounded) Demon Prince (Mark of Tzeentch) is swarmed by guardsmen:
Thanks for looking.

Love your work with the ghouls!
And since a few folks have been kind enough to unearth this plog...
(ahem)
Lately I've been doing more gaming than painting -- which is a good thing. Still here and there, I've been picking away at painting the Lord of Change.
It took me awhile to work up the nerve to start painting him, I confess. He's so big and weird and all over the map. I was kind of intimidated.
I'm not done yet -- there's a lot of detail work to do, and bits here and there all over I need to clean up. (For example, some of the red I'll layer and texture up in fleshy/guts'ngore tones.)
But I have blocked out the basic color scheme, which looks like:
and
and
Things I like so far:
The Tzeenchian blue flamery, and the way blue energy zings up and down the creature;
the base, with the bodies feeding the demon;
the way the colors are beginning to emphasize the form of the creature;
the chaotic whirlwind/vortex effect.
Things I'm not happy with so far:
It still looks muddy;
It's still a bit dark;
My painting is pretty sloopy.
As you can see, I'm definitely in the mood for criticisms or critique. Input is welcome.
Thanks for looking.

Nice conversion! That looks like it took a ton of patience. I have trouble working on anythign that takes more than an hour or two .. that must have taken days or more!
The painting is coming along nicely. I dig the blue flamage. I think the "muddy" look comes from the lack of open space. Since every surface is highly detailed it is making it difficult to have sharper contrast. Not sure what you can do about that except keep plugging away at the details until they get some disticnt seperations.

You need something that is brighter and clashes with the overall form. Maybe something glowing more, that brings about the idea that it is glowing internally. Greens would be good, as you have a lot of cool effects going with the model (blues, bluish browns, low color skin etc). You could also try bringing out the pink in the skin tone for the fleshie bits, to help brighten it up.
Just did this soul grinder/defiler based off of what Cadaver did on his Nurgle Defiler. Tweaked it to be Slaaneshie with a mini boob as well as other fleshie bits. But you can see the glowing green on the back helps break apart the overal monotone color of the piece etc.
My Soul Grinder/Defiler 2
Really like it so far and might have to use it to tweak out a greater Daemon that fits into my theme or reused dreadnoughts and other fun bits.

I would try and make the soul grinder IGish in some way like a mutant tank, or walker. I remember in a game I forget the name but there was a boss called the spider tank where it's trends broke and became legs but had a lot of mutantious flesh on it. I think that would look awesome

Hapless mortals! Your doom draws nigh.
After venturing out on an extended campaign of conquest (and defeat) in Danger Planet's Fall league, I'm returning to my private Forge World to construct and otherwise concoct more daemons. And to spur myself, I'm reviving this project log.
I'll start posting WIP stuff tonight or tomorrow.
In the meantime, to whet appetites, here are a few glimpses into the Harrowed now, including a few shots of my Lord of Change (further along in painting, though not yet done...
and
and
And an army shot of the Host
Comments and critique welcomed, of course.
Specific projects on the workbench include:
a soulgrinder (fairly lightly converted)
yet another demon prince (again sentinel-based, more Khornish, possibly with wings)
bloodletters (converted)
some Harrowish version of things that could sand in as Bloodcrushers.
