The only area that I would say is a little in need of detailing is the bit on top of the guns at the front of the bike. You've got a flat horizontal plate which seems to need ... something...although I can't quite tell what. A glyph? A gunsight? A targeter? Another gun? I don't know, but other than that it seems quite finished to me, but then, as has always been said, somehow you always seem to just add that one thing that no-one else has thought of. As for a base, I'd go with something quite minimal if I were you, but there you go. Keep up the good work, as always!

The snotling hanging off the back was a fun idea, but ultimately a bit too negligible. He's so tiny, and you can't fit anything useful in him. Also, the banner does a decent job of conveying movement without him. That in mind, I banged together a more typical grot passenger to help keep the bike (and his extensive bionic parts) running.

The hand holding the pole is from one of those old, weedy ork bikers, and the mallet is from last edition's mek model. I think he does the job - I'll pile some stikkbombz up in the back there with him, so he has stuff to chuck as the boss drives along.

Edit: My FTP seems to be having some issues, so I've imageshacked these for now.

Most excellent sir! This really is a great step by step of how to plan and execute bike projects. Granted, you left out Step 0: Become Tiny God, but still, a great resource!

I promise I'm going to stop spamming pictures of such little incremental progress after this, at least until I start on painting.

Still, this is basically final shots of the thing. I did a bit of head scratching and found a suitable amount of stuff to pile up behind the seat by the banner pole, for the grot to stand on. Now there's a couple stikkbombz, some tools, ammunition, and a gas can all chained together back there.

I also added a couple finishing touches and most obviously, a base. I couldn't think of anything to do with that open area ontop of the guns - targeters (crosshairs) didn't seem to fit that area too well, and glyphs would have ruined the 'face'. I will probably just paint something on later.

Aaand I took a couple more photos just because I think this is getting paint on it soon.

One with a marine for scale (this bike got out of hand in a hurry! =I= scale ork biker? )

And hanging out with my other HQs:

Barring anything obvious I've missed, this is getting primer and paint soon, probably by Sunday.

I like the little touches like the stitching on the leg that's open to reveal wires underneath!

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Now that we can see it for scale with a marine, it is just mental! Fits in very nicely with the rest of your HQ though. He just needs a full biker squad now to charge around with.....

That Is so awesome.

In a bit of critisism tho, the side of his back that the grot is not behind seems to lack detail to me. Perhaps you should add something there.

I disagree, the model has enough going on already, let the paint do the work there. Looking awesome, can't wait for paint!

I love your model bash!
The thought and work put into Ork armies is amazing - makes me with I played them instead... have far too any other things to start re-considering my army options tho.

The bike really reminds me of the old LucasArts game, Full Throttle...

Akula: Yes, exactly. I don't remember if I mentioned it earlier in the thread, but that bike was substantial inspiration for at least the back end of this bike. I was working off this picture:

It's a pretty orky basis for inspiration. My original 'concept' drawing was much closer to this than the actual bike itself is, though.

You may have mentioned it earlier, and my brain just went haywire... I've got so much 40k stuff running through my head, I can't keep it all straight.

I can see where you got the inspiration from the sketch - that's a great point of departure, and you went with it, and made a stellar model!

I can't wait to see it painted, it'll look great!
The Cyb-Ork is fantastic too - makes me want to make up an army that uses the Necron codex, but have all the models be heavily Cybered Orks... that would be a trip.

I LOVED that game... so much fun... hmm... Ever thought of taking it further, and making a Polecats warbike team?
If Tau had bikes, I'd turn them into Vultures... hehe

Awesome work!

Jamsess' please take a look at the grots feet, they are too flat. It might pay to curve the foot around what he is standing on. If you decide to put his foot on the canvas roll this also needs to be depressed to account for the grots weight.

Time for some paint.

First, and least interestingly, I did a bit of painting to the base. I need to work on the gold parts with a bit of a wash, but truthfully, who cares? The base is secondary to the actual mini.

More to the point, I also had a bit of time to start with the paint work on the boss. My results so far feel a bit 'grimey' due to the fact that I'm washing a lot of the jacket with Devlan Mud, but I sort've like the look on this mini anyway; this is an ork who lost half his body while wearing that jacket, and he now spends his days riding on a smog-belching, greased-up killcycle. I think I can get away with making him a bit grimy.

I had the terror-inducing panic attack of dropping the rider about an hour ago, when I set the pin vice holding the paperclip down and the whole thing topped off my desk. His bionic foot and gun arm both broke off, but I've managed to get them both pinned and glued back on without too much trouble. I think the gun arm is actually being held a little bit more forward than it was prior, but it doesn't get in the way of the handlebars, so I'm not worried about it. Of course, I am a bit annoyed that my inadvertent butterfingers got to the model after I'd started painting.

In any case, it doesn't seem to have gone too badly. I tried painting the skin by the 'seam' a sickly purple color with varying degrees of success - as always, I think it looks a bit better to the eye than the camera, but that's just because the eye is much more forgiving. I'll be trying to smooth out some of the blending around that seam a bit better, but the overall idea is there.

I also need to find some sort of tutorial for how to do the glowy-eye stuff on the bionic side. I don't want it to be too excessive - just a bit on the surrounding cheekbone and brow - but enough to eonvey that 'yes this guy is lit up'. A brighter red, probably closer to white will be needed on the eye to sell the effect, but that'll come later.

The gun's from the Big Mek with Bosspole miniature that GW produces.

Here's a bit more paint. The rider's by no means done, but he's getting there.

I'll do the gun and remaining stuff on the rider tomorrow.
