Hello
Great job - looks great.
On a side note, I'd love some more info on your working process with painting.
I see you use pliers with paper clips by the look. Do you use paperclips glued in to hold the model while you work on it, then cut them off to pin them?
Thanks

The paperclips are usually just to hold things, yeah. The one I had on the rider got pulled out, and the ones in the back tires on the bike are just so I can not be holding the bike directly when I wash the whole thing. I'll probably remove those and just glue it straight to the base, then pin up from underneath the base into the tires at bizarre angles so that it can't be yanked loose from the base if the glue ever weakens up.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands
Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

You should have seen his imitation of a pa forumer called Katchem_ash. I was amazing, it took him a week to sculpt and paint. It was the best model he'd ever done.

I've been hammering away at painting this thing for a little while now, and I'm just not happy with how it's going. The rider and grot mechanic on the back are painted fine, as far as I'm concerned, but the bike and banner are driving me up the wall. I've already stripped the banner a couple times, as I keep screwing up the painting on it, and I'm just getting tired of working on this thing.
I'm giving some serious consideration to stripping the whole bike (god help me, that's going to be a miserable time) and trying it over from the beginning. However, I don't think a 'round 2' is going to do me much good, as I'm just not feeling too into painting right now. The bike requires a fair bit of freehand on parts like the banner and cowling, and I'm not really the one for that job.
I figured I'd put up something of an APB and see if anyone better than I with a brush might be interested in painting this thing. I'm looking for someone who can do a pretty bang-up job with this, just due to the amount of work that went into building it and having Noze help with the rider.
If anyone's interested, please PM me, but if you could include some sort of pictures so I have an idea of how your painting looks I'd appreciate it.

Hrmmm. I hate to see you let yourself get beat on this, Ein.
Truth be told, you're definitely the man for the job. The bike DOES look a little too "planned" in the chipped paint dept., but that's easily remedied by someone with even a modicum of talent.
The hardest thing to do would be the banner. Since you haven't posted pics of ANY of YOUR attempts, I can't really comment... but I find it hard to believe that you aren't up to snuff.

Everyone who says it needs to look less clean, please let him finish. The thing isn't done yet and, I don't know about everyone else, but I dirty things when I am done to make it more realistic (at least, when it comes to vehicles/armor). I tend to put scuffs, dings, and scrapes at the very end, because that is how it happens in the real world. I think when he is done, we won't be lacking for dirtiness.

Well, for me personally, I don't care about the clean look. I think that clean looks fine.
If you look back at Ein's own comments, however, you'll see that he, himself, has a problem with how clear it looks in spite of the fact that he's put numerous washes on it to tone it down.

After a bit of deliberation, I've decided against having someone else paint this thing. For one, I'm not sure stripping it would go so well, given how hard it'd be to get a brush in some spots to scrub old paint off. I could very easily end up with a half-clean mess on my hands, which is worse than when I started. On the other hand, most of the prices I've been getting for commissioned painting on just the bike are way out of the league of what I'm willing to pay.
In the end, I think I'll just grit and bear it and finish the job myself. I have 20+ other bikes in my army that have to be painted, and there's no sensein having them all look awful by comparison anyway.
Anyway, I did a bit to the banner, particularly the glyphs. I had a huge amount of trouble painting the details on the banners mostly because I can't blend colors to save my life, and the curves make my thinned-out paint run all over the place. After hacking the banner off the bike and stripping it 4-5 times, I finally got the glyphs to a point where I'm willing to leave them alone. The banner itself needs work, but I'm having trouble with weathering or shading it for the same reasons as above; if I try a wash of something like gryphonne sepia, it gets all over the damn place and pools in weird places, so I don't get the shading I really want out of this. I'm more than open to suggestions.
I tried weathering it up a bit, and really didn't like what was happening - the washes were desaturating the colors of the red on the bike and making it look dingy, and not dirty. I think I'm going to get some beasty brown on a drybrush and hit the tires and parts of the bike closer to the base, and see how that goes.
The exhaust pipes are weird. The tips are almost black, but the boltgun metal's still shining in the photos and making them look relatively unweathered. I may try adding a few spots of rust on 'em, and some of the other metal parts on the bike.
I'm also going to get some darker metallic color (like a boltgun mixed with black) and see if I can re-edge some of the paint chips to give it a bit more depth and make it look less flat. I'm not sure how to improve this, but I'm more than willing to listen to ideas.
Edit: My FTP seems to be down, so I just imageshacked these for the time being.

Man this is an awsome job. If you are having issues with not being happy with the way it is turning out, try working on some of the other bikers you have and experiment with different techniques on them. Find one you like and come back and do it on this guy ( I dont think you really need to but-). Looks great as already said, keep up the good work.
