Amazing work once against bursley. Very nice, and clean work on all your models. The firewarriors look good. Well as good as something that is blue can be anyway. Cant wait to see what else you have. I will continue to watch this thread.

UPDATE -GREY KNIGHT- Did a little more work messing with the shading technique before I paint the others for the group. Need to finish the rest of the left arm, left shoulder pad, and start the highlights on the weapon. The cloth will be blended, but for the pic I threw some sepia wash over bleach bone. Then Base work. 90% complete http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/13968-Grey%20Knights%2C%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Work%20In%20Progress.html -WARBOSS- Started on this guy and after messing with the blood on the defiler, I decided to give his claw the same treatment Along with blood spatter reaching the left side of his face. 60% complete http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/13967-Orks%2C%20Warboss%2C%20Warhammer%2040%2C000.html

Albino, if you read past that post you would have known why I acted that way.. Was irritated after reading many different posts and seeing lots of negative comments and once in a while, something constructive.
if you want to "dove tail" a resolved issue, cool

YES! FIBER OPTICS!
As for the tau scheme I'll probably just get on Dawn of War and go through the schemes there. I forgot I could use the painter in there to see default schemes.

Aw, I kind of had my hopes up that these guys were going to be a legion of Word Bearers.
Even so, some of the most well-painted CSM I've ever seen.
The skin on your Orks looks pretty incredible as well.
EDIT: Wow, I just missed three entire pages and feel like an idiot for it.
Your Fire Warriors, with their drastic three step shading, are really unique. I like them a lot.
And though I always have a problem with metallics on models, the details on your Grey Knights are extremely well done, particularly the flowing scripts.
The only really nagging problem I have with any of your painting is that your black never ends up looking quite "finished". Because you use such dark palette, I guess it works. I would never suggest edging with blue to highlight black, but possibly a highlight or two of near-black (hardly add any white whatsoever). Just a suggestion.

About my blacks, we're on the same page lol, if you look closely I have subtle highlights I do with a mix 1:1 codex gray / chaos black. hard to tell in the pictures because of the lighting. (tend to highlight where the light hits, which kinda deletes it out of the pic heh) Glad you noticed the dark palette. Just been trying to put my own paint twist to mini's. Get tired of seeing the same thing. Been working on trying to make the guns on the orks look a lil more real using the NMM technique USING........ metalics haha (oxy moron). So far people like it... Got bored so I grabbed the SM capt. out of my Assault on black reach box and started painting him using my friends technique for painting gold.. I love it. I'll post pics of where I stopped in a couple minutes.

I'd rather not hear your opinion.
This WIP was set up for friends and customers to view projects. And if you're just passing through to look and have some constructive criticism, I'm open to that.
I'm sorry to be dovetailing something that you yourself have said is resolved, I just wanted to clear something up, mainly for my own benefit.
I'm sure it would have been better if he had made some constructive criticism, but it does not stop somebody giving their opinion. Just because it is not necessarily constructive does not mean that it isn't worthy to be posted.
I'm not sure "having a high post count" gives people the prerogative to make judgements on your work. I'm not sure if what you said was really intentional to come out like "Oh well, if you're new here...", but it did.
Having worse skills at something does not, either, disqualify an opinion from the arena. Just because most Art and Literature Critics are terrible Artists/Writers themselves, does not mean that their critical opinion is not valid. Sometimes it is more valid to look at a piece from an objective, distanced point of view.
Anyway, really nice work. I'm not a fan in particular of the scheme on the Fire Warriors, but everything else shows real skill. I especially like the lord's Claws.

Your right smiling Assassin it was an angry stupid post and it never sould have been posted so it has been removed (modified).
Gutteridge- gold was done in different ways.
On the grey knights they were painted scorched brown, drybrushed with dwarf bronze, then drybrushed in high areas with shining gold.
SM Capt. was done with 1:1 scorched brown/ shining gold, then all raised areas hit with just shining gold, then drybrushed where the light hits with a 1:1 shining gold/ mithral silver.

The models look great, nice detailing and color choices. The photoshop is garish and is overpowering the models however. Remember, the point is to highlight the qualities of the model and paint, not your abilities with motion blur.

Is the motion blur really that distracting? Think almost all my pix have the effect and thats the first time I've heard anyone being distracted by it lol.
@ Trevy the Great..I dont use inks. I dont think GW makes them any more and GW paint is all I use.
I use the sepia wash and the delv mud also for leather and skin. Inks tend to have a semi gloss finish I dont like.

It can be quite distracting, the tau color test on the previous page was absolutely overpowered by it. The colors ran into eachother and it only diminished the impact of the model. In miniatures pictures you want to show a strong contrast, with the grey night a black background would be best. The white to black gradient serves to confuse the eye and diminish detail when the central image is also black and grey. You want miniatures pictures to pop, which a few of yours would do much better without the backgrounds. They are excellent paint jobs, but take this advice for what it is. I do graphic design professionally and am on my third year of college (with a degree) relating. Your backgrounds diminish your photography and take attention away from the models.

Thanx.I do backgrounds how I like them and what I think looks cool for the model. I make the model huge in the pic to see the details. But I guess if more Art Majors stop in I'll get yelled at for not doing it "by the book" lol. I dont write music using guidelines so I apply that way of thinking to my models. Aren't the basics for mini pix dark model/ light background and lighter model/ dark background? I know I used the gradient on some of my pix because the mini suffered with light/dark backgrounds. Oh well educate me! I'm all about learning.

Contrast is important. As is negative space, since thats what you use to direct peoples eye. When you put the models blur behind it peoples eyes will travel over that blur in deference to the model as they scan down. You're not trying to create a balanced composition when you are photographing a painted model, you are trying to create a stark contrast so that the model in effect exists free from any other thing in the frame. You don't want people looking at your background. Simplicity is key, the ork warboss with the black background was great, when you compare it to the most recent grey knight you will notice the grey knight loses a measure of its visual strength because it does not contrast outside of its pertaining lines.
Simplicity should back the model, not complication.

AHH! ok ok.. I see keep the background boring so NOTHING takes attention away from the mini. So with the War Boss in mind.. even with the close up pics clustered together in the 3rd pic, too cluttered?

A little bit, you don't want anything to give the illusion of overlap. Breaking a compound picture like that into multiples is one of the better ways of solving the problem of busy imagery. You also don't want multiple cut sizes, both images featuring the warbosses head should be the same size. That way the eye doesn't give deference to one over the other.

Some good guides to photographic composition can be found online. Though I couldn't find much for modeling and macro photography specifically.

Maddening Mutant Boss of Chaos

I'm in love with your chaos scheme, the dark look is exactly what I go for in my painting as well, although I am still practicing.
I do have a question for you: I've noticed you drybrush alot and it comes out really well. I tried drybrushing when I first started, but I never seemed to get it right, and so have opted to do more solid? highlights. My question is, how heavily do you brush, and when do you know when enough is enough?
