Oh well, I don't think camo fits for navy uniforms so I'm going to go with something different.

Will begin trawling historical and current naval uniforms for ideas once I get internet sorted in the flat.

Hope to do more sculpting on him this weekend so should have more pics early next week once the internet is sorted.

Cheers,

Dante

Looking good. I wish I had your patience to get the fine detail you do in your sculpting.

As for the color scheme I agree that a blue/grey/black combo might work well. I think typhus might be thinking about the "black and white puzzle camo" of the Urdeshi 7th Stormtroopers from Guns of Tanith.

That's what I thinking, too - the Urdeshi's wore urban camo, but AFAIK, the navy units wear gray uniforms.

Phew, well after probably the two busiest weeks of my life, I'm back!

Moved into the new flat now and got most things sorted, bed - check, painting desk and chair - check, sofa - check, internet - check, 42" 1080pi 100hz hd plasma tv - check!

So back to modelling. Since I've been offline I haven't had much of a chance to do alot of modelling due to being so busy with moving and work, but I have got some more sculpting done on the navy armsman.

The right leg is almost there now, just some fine details on the boots etc that need adding. The left leg is currently needing some more work on the boot and the lower part of the fatigues added. I've also started the base work for the arm holding the shotgun, just an armature at the moment really though.

Finally, some pics of the new place:

The painting room (total mess at the moment, will be sorted this weekend)

The wardrobe in the painting room, all those boxes and bags are full of gamesworkshop stuff...

The bedroom, complete with superking sized bed!

The living room complete with new tv and girlfriend

The kitchen

Now thats sorted, back to the sculpting and painting. I hope to finish the legs this weekend and begin bulking out the arm and start the other arm, so expect pictures and more posting from now on.

Cheers,

Dante

Noice.

The resculpted leg is perfect! Now this guy is looking like a solid hunk of meat - the shotgun is just proof. His expression is that of a tireless Vet, and his gear is turning out great too.

Any ideas for the colour scheme you're going to use?

Thanks mate, exactly the look I was going for! Gotta say, I've come to really like the shotgun now, the size seems just right to emphasise the character.

For colour scheme, no closer yet. Only just got the capability to trawl through navy unifrom images for inspiration.

Thats actually the broadband and router box.....the pizza boxes were in the bin!

Yeah, congratulations on the new digs, looks pretty sleek, nice kitchen too.

This guy is looking very cool. I hope you don't mind me being nit-picky but could I suggest adding just a bit more bulk to the top of the right calf? I think it would ad a bit more "tension" to the straps holding the knee pad on. At the moment I feel his leg is still pretty thin under those fatigues and that knee pad might slip down. Hyper-critical I know, but you're doing some really nice, precise sculpting work here.

I can't wait to see more of him!

I spied a pic with you in a kilt, so your a native then?

The shotgun guy is a slow burner for me, not the immediate like that I had for the RT or the smile girl, he's developing nicely now though.

the legs are still in progress yes?

Yeah I see what you mean. I'll probably go back and add a little more bulk just under the straps for the pads. Appreciate the honest and constructive criticism though, always helps in realising areas that don't look quite right.

@ MeanGreenStompa - Yep, 100% Highlander born and raised. Don't know why the flag next to my name has changed to US since it used to be UK?!

Yep, legs are still WIP. The right one is closest to being finished but there is still some detailing work to be done on both the leg and the boot.

@ Malika - Haven't posted from outside UK this year so no idea why its changed.

Managed to get the bulk of the legs done. The cloth on the lower left leg still needs the folds defined more shaprly though.

The arms have also begun to be developed. Still just the armatures at the moment but you can see how the left arm is beginning to have muscle structure laid out. You can also see how the final pose is going to look.

More soon.

Just went through some quick pics on google and thought it might help give some more reference

If you ain't Cav... - This one is probably the best example I found.

I could go model my own set of gear, but I fear the photos of my legs might throw this thread off course ^_-.

Looking great btw. I feel like this guy should be chomping down on a cigar for some reason >.>..

Cheers guys.

I've done a bit more on him tonight. Mainly filling out the musculature of the arms etc. I also started working on a second version of the same head with a new expression sculpted over the old mouth, the existing one, while it will no doubt look fine once painted, looks a little extreme for the casual pose.

@ grey_death - Ta mate, the type of pics I've been working off are of WW2 US paratroopers:
http://www.sproe.com/u/uniform-paratrooper.html

Going for the "flared trousers" look that para's tend to have because its easier to do (I find) and looks cooler.

More soon.

Ah. Just the little stunty one looked like a Domino's we (down here) tend to get after a night out. If we still remember the foods, that is.

How's the right arm going to turn out? I'd imagine clutching belt/webbing, but I can't quite work it out at the moment. That's where the proverbial war will be won or lost -- the arms. Take extra care mate: if it's right, it will be awesome

May be a bit nonsensical at this stage, but I've just opened a new pack of the wonderful Vallejo WW2 German Camouflage paints for my new Guard, and they're proving a real eyeopener. I'd suggest, off the top of my head for this Navy lad, a bit of the 964 Field Blue, which I used as an alternative shade for ordelies etc. It's a satisfyingly realistic tone, which fits the navy idea well.

Good luck

Cheers mate.

Yeah it does look like the little Domino's ones.

The right hand with be resting against the pouch, thumb up, fingers clasped around. The arms will have rolled up sleeves (hence the reason I'm bothering to sculpt musculature). The shoulders of the sleeves will have patches designating rank, unit, fleet etc. Designs for these will be taken from "The Gothic and The Eldritch" navy section. I was contemplating shoulder pads similar to the knee pad design but much smaller, however, these would cover the patches etc so I think I'll leave them off.

On to the new pics:

I decided to create a second possibility for the head to test a different expression. It's still very WIP and the top of the head needs a bit more shaping with files and the mouth needs alot more work. The eyes also need upper eyelids. I filled the cheeks a little more on this one so that he looks a bit younger.

I quite like the different look so will probably finish both up and paint them both then see which looks best.

Arms are stille very early days yet.

More to follow this week.

Dante... have you been watching Ultimate Force reruns... he's rapidly morphing into Ross 'You Slags' Kemp...

so maybe he'd benefit from a comms mike and headset?

Lol, that show cracks me up. It was supposed to be a comedy right?!

Given that he already has a radio on his chest, I won't be adding a headset or microbead to his head. Don't worry, he'll look more Bruce Willis than Ross Kemp when he's done.

Thats what I thought when I saw the new head, "Yippee Ki a Mother F******."

He looks quite stunning, but I cant help but think that perhaps he needs more armor. I know you said you were'nt going to do shoulder pads, but couldn't you put his rank and other stuff on said shoulder pad?

Or perhaps make his left arm more armored, and leave his right one for such designation, seeing how he would most likely fire his with his left shoulder towards the enemy?

Well I actually think he looks like that bloke from the shield cop show, which is no bad thing.

I'm keen to see what you do with the right arm though...

A fair point. The left pad only idea was something I had considered, think it might look a bit odd though with just one unless it was a pretty big pad. I'll have a play around with them and see what I can come up with.

Cheers again for all the kind comments guys.

Mightn't I suggest a utility belt or a combat harness? It could have ammunition, a rebreather, perhaps a breaching charge or a blowtorch? You could even tuck a pack of lho sticks under it somewhere.

Sculpting looks fantastic as always! Any progress on the hooker or the captain?

@ Mercurial - He already has a belt with plenty of pouches on it, the only space left to add anything is where the rebreather (connected to the cable on the back) will go.

No progress on the smile girl or captain, the navy armsman is taking all my time at the moment as I try to get it finished for Conflict Scotland in April.

@ Migs - Cheers mate, I'm really pleased with the development in my scultping abilities lately. It's all thanks to your original =I=munda log that inspired my new direction.

Still got a bit to do to be fully settled in the new place but loving it so far. Got the balcony sorted today but its chucking it down so will have to wait til the weather gets better to get full use of it.

A bit of an update. I've done more to the face and arms. Upper right arm is almost finished now. Left still needs plenty of work. The face is almost done, the left eye looks a little off in the pics but I have sorted it since taking them.

More soon, though commission work will be taking precident.

Cheers,

Dante
