For some reason, the new face immediately made me think off Panthro from Thundercats ^_^.

Where is the right hand going to be resting? on the pistol hilt?

Aha, that angle helps. Yes, he does indeed have a sufficiently pouchy belt, doesn't he? Capital facial sculpting, though I too am curious about the left arm.

All will become clear soon!

Glad the face is getting good comments...despite its likeness to panthro!

More soon.

Realised I haven't got pics up yet of the most recent state.

Not too much change. I've finished the face off, added some folds to the boots and begun working on a sleeve for the left arm.

The forearm of the left and right arms still need work but its gradually getting there!

And finally, a comparison of the two heads. Both are made from the same piece but the one on the right has had more work changing the expression.

The shirt-sleeve on the left arm is very subtle, but looks great. And the before and after WIP on the face is pretty amazing. You make GS sculpting look easy! (When I know that it isn't!)

Good call on the exposed arms with rolled sleeves.

I really like that you share so much of the process here with us. It's nice to see your nice and slow process to building up each part with a little GS at a time. Something I'll definitely need to try should I begin sculpting with it in the future.

Hi

Looking really nice.

I assume you will be bulking up the connection between shoulder and arm pin when you finish it off? Right now the connection point is too thin, but I think that's just 'cause it's a work in progress...

Excellent effort - I'm enjoying playing with demons for now - they are much more forgiving to errors in the sculpting (you can call it a "chaos feature). Doing realistic looking humans and capturing an expression that matches their body language is very cool.

This, and Dave's are pretty much the only things I come on Dakka to check up on these days.

Bloody great work with the resculpts mate. Rolled sleeves and muscled forearms are a recipe for homebrew win. I suggest this toughy has:

a) Some sort of Ink on *a* forearm,
b) Blood Type Ink on the back of his neck.

So what, he has a shotgun, how could he possibly not be the hardest man in the galaxy?

Awesome stuff. I really like smile girl. I once did a similar type of thing using an old metal Daemonette body and some Dark Eldar legs. Yours is a whole heap load better though.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, I know it's been said to death but they really, really do help keep motivation up.

@ tallmantim - Yep, the arm joints will be properly filled, they're a bit empty at the moment while I get them sorted and then I'll work on their final positioning.

@ Xanthos and grey_death - Cheers lads, I know it can be a bit difficult to see the progress at times but hopefully it's not boring everyone to death seeing every little step.

@ Smiling Assassin - Ta mate, there used to be only one or two logs I would check in on here but increasingly there are more and more quality projects popping up, particularly the =I=munda ones catch my eye. Dave's log is just something else, the man is a painting machine. He churns out such quality and in such numbers that he really puts us all to shame (particularly me - the big slow coach that I am!). Really looking forward to a rather interesting joint project we will be working on soon....

Shotguns for the win!

@ Excommunicate - I've grown to dislike my version a bit actually. Think I just got tired looking at it. Will probably give the concept another go soon though.

Yet again, some small update pics:

Haven't had much of a chance to do a lot on this chap, have been working on commission stuff (seen here) and putting together some miniature scenery paint racks that my gf got me for valentines day (those things take forever to put together but are the dogs balls!).

Have begun working on the sleeves, the left arm is closer to being done than the right but you can see how they're developing at least. I've also begun to work on the edges of the armour around the "arm holes".

More soon.

Cheers,

Dante

I can see where you're going with the arms and the pose slightly more. You're going to have the same problem with the arms as with the legs in that they're going to have to be bulked out to a significant proportion to the rest of the body to be believable, but also hardcore.

Bloody shotguns are a pain to get hold of, but I'm going to pop a few of those Bolter/Lasgun Shotty conversions into i few of my new Cadians, just for the sake. For the S's and the G's.

Just a few things I think when I look at this model, in terms of just bulking him up aesthetically, mainly along the lines of perhaps some plating for the upper legs? He looks like a breacher (you know what I mean, first through the door?), and so I'd imagine him having slightly a bulkier one side as opposed to just the chest plate - in terms of body armour of course.

Any more colour scheme thoughts?

Good hunting

Looking good CMD! If you look throught the whole thread CMD seems to have the same routine when modeling. Rough shape, plays with details and when he likes it, bulks out and it looks perfect. Example- left leg. I have my full confidence in Dante! Keep it up!

As promised, here are some pics of the tools I use along with another small update:

The desk needs a tidy (been busy lately so just fitting in sculpting work whenever I can!). On the armsman, I decided to add a single shoulder pad on the left arm to provide more armour on his "foe facing" side. The arms still aren't done yet, need filling out around the armpits etc but its inching closer to completion.

Also, here's a pic of the first of 3 of the new paint racks:

Well I guess it's settled. I'm getting a set of shapers.

The shoulderpad looks like it will work out right now. Just needs more of the shoulder joint in place before it starts to look 'right'.

Can you post a picture to compare the Naval Armsman and the Lord Zhufor conversion? I know the size of Zhufor but not this guy.

Love it CM, splendid work!

Any plans for the cable running down the Armsman's back? It works for a tank crewman but just kind of...ends on this guy.

What is next on the cards for the Rogue Trader unit?

Already done the cable, pics to follow later of whats changed. Basically I'm making it a gas mask, the cable now leads to a pouch im sculpting on the belt.

Next will be either a pilot, or an female arbite scratch sculpt (based on the =I= illustration). Will decide once I finish the armsman off and paint him. Still need to finish painting the trader too but I'm thinking of sculpting a new head for him and lho stick holding hand.

Bit more progress. The gun fell a bit on the 2nd and 3rd pics so disregard the pose there. Also, I've decided the hand on the gun is too big so it will be going and being replaced by a sculpted hand.

I've begun bulking out the shape for the gas mask pack on the back and connected the cable using some guitar wire. It's the same width but the coils are obviously a little thicker, shouldn't be noticeable when painted though.

Other than that, most of the work has been filling minor areas etc.

More soon.

Yay updates!

Kudos on the gun hand decision - you would have either tried to keep the gloves uniform on both hands, then bulk up the rest to fit, or just ignore it, which wouldn't have been good. I'm glad you added the breaching side shoulderpad -- it just helps with the overall feel of bulk.

As someone else said, any size comparisons with the Rogue Trader/Renegade? It's just that I keep thinking this is going to be =I= scale. The details will come out tremendously at normal 40k scale, if slightly more realistic in proportion.

Good hunting

Decided to redo the head on the rogue trader. As the original was my first ever fully sculpted head, it looked a bit poor when I came back to it so decided to use the left over head from the armsman.

Added a chin wig and a ponytail to try and really push the rogue trader theme.

I decided to leave him with a pretty severe hairdo, short sides long on top, to emphasise the 40k side of things, gothic future and all.

I think the head is almost done now. I thought about maybe adding some piercings or something but then decided agaisnt it for fear it would make the face cluttered.

Hopefully get painting on him soon. The paint on it at the moment was just a play about with some thin layers of colour for some ideas, it will be totally different scheme when done though now that I've worked one out!

Cheers,

Dante
