Nice work so far Dante... I'm absolutely loving the Rogue Trader, though worryingly he is starting to remind me of a guy I work with! Have you decided on a paint scheme yet? I'm interested to see how you "envision" his style of dress. Rogue Traders always come across as a little "eccentric" whenever they get a mention in the fluff... It would be great if you could somehow make his dress seem flamboyant and outlandish yet still tie him in with the darker aspect of 40K.

@Dante (or others) - I know this is a bit of an off topic, but I am curious about =I= munda, and I am curious what sort of rulesets people are using, such as is it just Necromunda with new "characters" or ??? Again, sorry for being off topic but I am really liking the what everyone, including Dante, has been doing in the =I= munda space and I am interested in learning more.

Personally, I'm not using any rules. I don't game, just paint and model. Migs is the man to talk to about rules, being founder and all.

For paint, I'm keeping it under wraps at the moment, you'll just have to wait and see .

Cheers,

Dante

Gaarghhh. I come back after a bit of not coming online, and you now say that you're keeping painting a surprise? Is this some kind of sick joke -- are you finding this amusing?

Really, nice touching up work on the Rogue Trader. I personally want moar of the Naval Man myself (could be misconstrued), but this is all great stuff.

To get back on track...

Started painting at the weekend, first time in about 4 months so things didn't go too great. I ended up redoing most of what I did on Saturday tonight.

Went back and redid much of the face tonight and am a lot happier now though it could maybe use another final highlight or two.

Cheers,

Dante

The skin is looking great so far, I like the greyish shade the skin tone has. Makes him even more gothic..
What might look cool on him is some stubble on the beard area, like he forgot to trim his beard for some days..

I'm truly looking forward to see this masterpiece finished, keep it coming!

His hair is going to be dirty blonde. Everything bar the face is still just basecoat.

@ tallmantim - Yep, I did, wasn't sure it would work out since they're so small but looks alright.

@sonofruss - lol, not sure how I'll do that one....

Brilliant - you know the few suggestions I have in terms of pant/shirt color, but other than that want to take another opportunity to say the face is superb and so is the jacket and this model will rock so hard.

I like the skin, very much. Very realistic, what are the plans for the rest of the model? Or is it going to follow the basecoat?

Just going to have to wait and see mate .

@ Migs - The jacket is only basecoated and a few first, scrappy highlights added in areas for some ideas. Thanks for your advice and praise though, really appreciate the help.

These ooze character the armsman yells "not on my watch you punk" while the nonchalantly smoking Rogue Trader just looks contemptuous and aristocratic.

You've got the girl, the boss, the veteran may I make the humble suggestion of a rookie to go with the armsman?

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Don't tell me to wait. I had to wait an hour for a Pizza at Pizza Express with three of my cousin's screaming brats. I guess I'll have to use your updates as ballast of inspiration to paint. Planning for any more equipment detail: an ornate las pistol?

I just noticed the centre parting on the Trader - woah. Is he in a Galactic boyband?

If your a Rogue Trader, and your NOT in a Galactic Boyband, then you aren't working hard enough!

The inspiration was drawn from Jes' "The Gothic and The Eldritch" with most human characters having "severe" haircuts....

Quick update:

Just done a bit more on the jacket and the sash, not so sure how much I like it though. Going to take a short break from him to work on Blood Pact (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/220069.page) again for a bit though.

Cheers,

Dante

He looks great, wonderfully arrogant. Do I actually see an embroidered pattern on his shirt? Impressive.

Yep, I tried to do an embroidered effect on the red jacket after seeing JRN do it on one of his mini's. Obviously his looked A LOT better though.

This model actually drives me nuts. The brocade and button bit of the jacket was just not made to be painted, it is so fiddly and impossible to get how I want it, what you can see above is my best effort - which is pants!

I'm actually getting a bit skunered with the mini to be honest, hence the reason I returned to the BP.

While trawling through my bits boxes I came across the navy armsman I was working on a while ago. After looking at him for a bit, I decided I wanted to finish him off, but not as planed.

The idea is for him to be a storm trooper type fella standing on a battlefield after battles end, staring at the grave of a fallen comrade (gun in ground with helmet on top or something like that).

[Note - the conversion is far from finished, pics are purely to show the new direction]

More soon.

Cheers,

Lol, if you weren't all the way over in MA then you'd be more than welcome to mate! He was there for storage in the "Imperial Guard" bits rack. I was putting a load of new stuff in and decided to have a root through my FW stuff for some inspiration.

Cheers,
