will this guy have a warband of his own, or is he somehow afiliated with your BP gang?

Not been on 40k forums, must have been Warseer. Though there is another log currently on the go there where someone is emulating my blood pact stuff.

This guy wasn't originally going to get a gang but my head is swimming with ideas for other members of his band (pilot, ganger, navigator, armsman etc) and I already have alot of the bits and pieces I would use to make these figures. The only thing is I don't want to distract myself too much from the blood pact as I intend to have them as an entry for GD. Though I could always enter the Rouge Trader group as a squad.....uh oh!

Currently real life is keeping me from modelling and painting and probably will be for the next week or so (moving to a new flat) so I'll be on here discussing ideas etc and would appreciate all your input to keep my motivation up.

Cheers,

Dante

I think an entire RT 'naval' warband would be sweet. gotta have a gunnersmate in there too.

Well, the thought of doing a gang around this figure has grown on me to the point that I have begun to work on a few of my other ideas.

Second up for the group is a "smaile girl" - see Eisenhorn books for more info.

Early days yet but you can see where its going. The legs have been filed down to look more feminine and slender with the feet shaped for the basis of high heels. The idea is to have a long coat hanging off of her shoulders with arms at almost right angles to either side. Weapons will be either a sword/knfie or a laspistol/stub pistol.

The head is just a temporary stand in though I am thinking about using it but sculpting new eyes etc. We'll see.

Hope to start painting the trader soon too.

Cheers,

Dante

Great start, the legs look perfect now and the GS work is very smooth where it definitely needs to be.

Can't wait for the RT paint ^_^.

Looking good, not so sure about the long coat. What about some sort of latex suit kind of like Trinity from the Matrix movies?

Oh yeah...and two pistols would make her way more bad ass than a sword!

Looks excellent CMDante, there really is SO much background material in those inquisitor books, I don´t think we need to see the same model concept twice on Dakka, ever.

Cool smile girl so far, really want to see where you take this.

Cheers lads.

@ Grey Death - Thanks mate, I'm dying to paint him but real life issues (moving) are getting in the way, hence the reason for using the time I do get to do a couple of other conversions.

@ Malika - The "trinity" thing is overdone as it is in 40k by GW, I'm aiming to do something a little more in keeping with the Ravenor and Eisenhorn novels. My plan is to sculpt the coat so that it is sliding off her shoulders. It keeps with the "seductive" theme for a smile girl and should also look cool with the two pistols. Sort of a "I'm taking my coat off now so someone is definitely going to die!" look.

@ Xanthos - Couldn't agree more mate, the variety in the numerous =I=munda logs we already have here speaks volumes alone! It's a part of the 40k universe that hasn't previously seen enough attention outside of the realms of the odd 54mm mini so it's really great seeing the innovative ways in which the variety of GW plastics and FW resins, along with metals of course, can be altered and combined to produce models that tell more about life in the 41st millenium than any amount of cookie-cutter cadians ever could.

Not to say there is anything wrong with cadian armies, just that its nice to see other areas explored through modelling.

More soon!

Cheers,

Fair enough, I'm curious to see what kind of coat you will give her. You mention Ravenor en Eisenhorn so for some reason I'm thinking about a coat in the style of a commissar's coat or some yakuza styled trenchcoat.

But erm, what is a "smaile/smile girl"?

A bit on a general note for all the =I=munda people. Yes, the possibilities are endless with converting, just pick whatever inspiration source you want and you can go totally crazy with it.

However, well...not really however. It's more something that tends to get ignored because it's not as cool, all the models and such as playable figures or at least figures that fight. What about civilians? We never really get to hear anything about or see pictures of Imperial civilians, they are all heroic guys running around with oversized swords and guns, but never that mob of people who are out shopping when the store gets blown up by a heretic.

I dunno, if you guys are playing =I=munda games in populated areas I think it would be cool to see civilian models (conversions) as well, they could even just be part of the terrain (what about using them as human shields? )

Been Around the Block

I once wrote a scenario for a now defunct Inquis website (wish I knew where it went as I had some good fictin posted there...) which revolved around a stand-off between Inq gangs meeting in a busy market place. The idea was to have as many civilians and pack animals dotted around as possible at the start, and then once fighting commenced the crowd would begin to run for the nearest possible cover (potentially blocking line of sight) and animals would get spooked and start stampeding in random directions (potentially trampling Inq models in the process and also blocking line of sight where appropriate). Its an easy thing to achieve and would work in =I=munda too - simply add a GM turn in between the player turns where all civilian models move 6" towards the nearest cover and animals move 6" in a random direction. Resolve trampling with, say, a strength 6 hit if an animal comes into base contact with a character model. Jobs a good un!

To keep on topic - loving the smile girl. Those daemonettes really do lend themselves nicely to human female conversions. Great stuff.

Thanks for the comments chaps.

@ Malika - A "smaile" girl is a spelling mistake I made . Smile girls are the 40k's equivalent of escort girls. Elizabeth Bequin from the "Eisenhorn" trilogy started out as one before joining Eisenhorn.

Her coat will be a fur collared trench coat length coat. Something a bit grand but tacky, fitting the smile girl theme.

@Migs - Got it in a oner mate!

I see your in the UK now, how long for? Just London?

@ Malika - I agree, the only thing about doing an out and out civilian is that there isn't really anything exciting about them. Your typical civi isn't going to be rocking any extravagant clothing or gear really. I think it's more fun, for the moment anyway, doing those characters that aren't soldiers but aren't out and out dull civilians either.

@ Anodyr - I don't actually game but it sounds like an interesting scenario, you should see if you can find it and add it to the =I= munda thread in the rules forum. It has alot of potential for all kinds of cool GM interventions, such as scaring the cattle into stampeding etc.

The daemonette models really are beautiful, the lines on them are prefect and such smooth curves too.

More soon.

Quick update. A little more work done on the head, body and feet.

Still very rough as it's only second stage so just trying to lay the foundations for everything to come. Quite pleased with how the eyes have turned out, looks alot more human now.

Again, let me know what you think. More to follow soon.

Hmmm, last update wasn't very popular then? Lets try again!

I've started on the arms, just mocked up at the moment to work out how I'm going to do them. Not sure about the metal laspistol yet, looks quite large but at the same time, it looks kind of fitting and offsets the delicacy of the other pistol and the rest of the mini.

Next steps are to start prep work for the coat and develop the arms more.

As usual, comments etc appreciated.

Dante

Looking really good! I agree that the pistols of different sizes will work. They can provide a great asymmetrical basis for the rest of the model.

Are you thinking of putting any buckles or straps on the boots or just leaving them very smooth thigh-highs?

They're going to be stockings mate, she's getting high heels to go with the smile girl theme. It's also a good excuse to practice some transparency effects too!

wow, she is turning out great. I like the different pistols, and had a thought on the coat. I'm a fan of ladies in long coats, but the short heels might match better with a shorter coat.

wasn't the smile girl in the eisinhorn books also an untouchable? I ask as it gave her a useful talent to her boss, I'm curious as to what she has to offer a warband on the battlefield.

great work so far. I like the direction that the head is going in, but it still looks a bit alien. Maybe due to the vertical elongation?

Also, only in 40k would a torso sized pistol be called "delicate"

I really liked what you've done to the daemonette and top marks for the work on the face/eyes, that's some detailed stuff and really returns alot of humanity to the model, I really agree on keeping the upper shoulders bared, retaining femininity in the model. When you mentioned coats though, I had watched bladerunner last night and thought immediately of the coat Rachel wears in that and whilst hunting for images, came across this:

http://evadress.blogspot.com/2007/12/on-rachels-coat.html

Which would appeal to the rogue trader no doubt as it shows off the lady and shows off his affluence at the same time.

Looking excellent, loving the look you´re starting to get on this one. Totally agree on the pistols being different.

If you could get a hold of one of the really old las pistols that might look even better (I´m thinking age of squats here), those had a more slender look to them than the newer imperial stuff.

Not saying that the current ones are bad, but that might be even better.

As far as the sculpting you´re doing goes...... Wow. Just wow.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

@ Rahveel - Yep, I know what you mean. The problem actually was that one heel was short and one long. I was trying to see which looked better and have decided to go with the high heel, goes better with the look I'm trying to create.

Coat wise I'm thinking 3/4 length. As for the pistols, I've decided the metal one is too big, it just doesn't work the more I look at it. I had another of the FW commissar pistols handy so I've been busy converting it into a left hand pistol. I've also decided to make the pistols more slimline and less military by removing the clip from the bottom. It makes them look much more clandestine and like a civilian weapon rather than navy issue. Pics will follow tonight.

@ lasgunpacker - I see what you mean but I quite like the fact it doesn't look 100% human, I like to the think that the Abnett is trying to describe a variety of different facial structures in his characters depending upon their birth world. The description of Carthaean's are a good example of what I mean.

@ MeanGreenStompa - Thanks for the link mate, thats pretty close to the look I had in mind, will help alot when it comes to the sculpting too!

@ Xanthos - I've decided against the different pistols, I thought a paired set would actually look quite cool and hint at a hidden "gunslinger" type talent which would explain her use to the trader.

I would love to be able to get my hands on some of those old era plastic weapons again. All the sprue's I had are long gone. I'll keep and eye on the trade forums and ebay in the hope that somebody has a few spare.

Cheers,

Dante

Your subtle use of green stuff is always a pleasure to watch unfold.

I feel her ankles are a bit thick right now though. A bit cankle'esque >.>...slightly unfitting for a slender model like this.

Thanks for the honest comments Aaron, I think your right too, its also something my girlfriend had pointed out. I'll see what I can do for the next update. In the meantime...

Just finished doing the bulk of the sculpting work on the new hand to turn it from a righty to a lefty. Notice also the trimmed pistols sans clip.

I've also done a little work to even up the size of the eyes. Her left eye was looking a little off before. I also reworked the heels a little and added a spar to the corset to try and make it a little more symetrical.

As usual, comments and thoughts welcome.

I love the slender styling of the laspistols and the new GS details are working nicely. The pose is perfect btw. Adding the coat will really fill out the model nicely when you get to it. I can pretty much see the finished piece at this point, and I can't wait for it to get there ^_-.

Cheers mate, I like the slimlined pistols alot more too. I'm thinking about adding some intricate detail but not 100% on this yet.

I'm currently trying to plan how I can make the coat but also keep it detachable for painting. Think it'll require some thought.

Ideas welcome!
