Great work throughout Dave, and the heavy bolter team most out of the new stuff. Props on the basing as well, love the huge gears sunk into the 60mm base. Are the gunner's burly arms from the scout heavy bolter lad?

Hi guys

Thanks for the encouragement, I'm glad you like the HB team and yes Boss, the HB (arms and all) is from the SM Scout. The gears are from a scientific supply place that JHall found online. I'll bug him to post the address in this thread.

@ DbM - They aren't the ones I was thinking of, but thanks for the assist.

Onto the update!

My Stalk Tank is nearing completion. Only another few hours or so (mainly on a base for him) and then it'll be on to painting and working out some rules.

I've added the rogue psyker to the image to give a better sense of scale and, as you can see in this next shot, the fore limbs can still reach out and touch someone in an all-too-frightening fashion!

I hope you like this guy and, as always, there are a few more pictures on my blog: http://davetaylorminiatures.blogspot.com/

Cheers

Very nice what'll it count as? A Hellhound or something?

Hey guys,
Dave wanted me to send you all the link to the Gears we bought. These are what he used on the base for the weapon team.

They are very nice! I plan on using them in a few projects of my own soon.

I love the look of the mantis pattern stalk tank.
I can't help wonder, aside from appearance, what the rear "butt" section is for? Seems like it wouldn't/shouldn't be there if it doesn't have a purpose beyond appearance.

Great stuff.

Great stalk tank. Just like the concept drawings. I love it.

Iirc, the rear of the stalk tank was where the 'servitor' or psyker was held inside it (to pilot it). In the concept drawings, I think it was more like an egg sac (organic). It looks like Dave has made it an armored compartment. I also think in the Gaunt series, the stalk tank drivers had some kind of shielding to protect the apparently 'exposed' pilot compartment.

in the second picture it looks as though the stalk is motioning that the gent in front of him would be more of a hassle to the opposing army, and it looks FREAKIN' SWEET!

My reason for not painting so much? DragonForce and the Indestructible album are the siren songs to my ears.....

And where exactly would you put ammo storage, fuel tanks and engine if not there?

The stalk tank looks very good, but is there a way you could incorporate the stand a little more into the actual model? I'm guessing it's only there as its a WIP?

Right now having a pole there to support it really takes some of the beauty away. Will you be mounting it onto a large base?

A large base where it's held up by it's own legs would look fantastic. Reinforced with copper or steel wire it should be okay to hold its own weight?

also, that's where the driver is. in the books, it's a transparent fluid filled bubble with a hard-wired servitor. go read the blog, he explains it there.

Hi guys

Here's the next group of ten guys. This takes me to 55 infantry models so far, not too bad for 51 days work. I might not make the 520 club this year, but perhaps I can make the 365 club.

I'll take a break from the Blood Pact Troopers for a little while and concentrate on their armored support (and a few other projects).

To answer some of your questions and comments:

@ MagickalMemories - yep, basically just what Cruentus said

@ Lord Marcus - if you mean the red fatigues it is this:
- Dark Flesh basecoat
- Dark Flesh/Kommando Khaki (60:40) highlight
- Dark Flesh/Kommando Khaki (20:80) highlight
- Kommando Khaki highlight
- Dark Flesh/Devlan Mud (70:30) thinned glaze

@ Gundam Mecha - yep, the post looks silly and breaks up the lines. As you guessed, however, it's just for the WIP shots. I'll be working on a base next week as soon as my latest order from Dragon Forge arrives. I'll e working on a configuration that will let me transport it easily.

@Paul Atredies - the best descriptions of the Stalk Tanks are in Sabbat Martyr.

Thanks for the encouraging words, for more pics you can check out my blog at http://davetaylorminiatures.blogspot.com/

Dave, once again, you have outdone yourself on how well you're pumping out these men. They're dynamic, well painted, and just a visual delight. I'm digging the snubby autocannon a lot.

These guys are definately who I envisaged my new Cadians to be fighting against -- they're perfect.

@ghostmaker - yep, essentially I just removed barrel between the body of the gun and the muzzle break. I've been looking around at a ton of stuff online in the past week, saw that look briefly and now can't for the life of me remember where I saw it. It looks cool though doesn't it!

This is a rather awesome looking army, its got a great look to it. I do have a question for you though, do you plan on making Khrel Kas Obarkon's Hell Razor, or are you gonna call it good with keeping them the way they are described in Sabbat Martyr?

Hi guys

@ VermGho5t - glad you like it all! The metal (I assume you mean their armor?)was inspired by the recent Warriors of Chaos release and all the "dark iron" they have going on. Here's the recipe:
- Black undercoat
- heavy drybrush of Tin Bitz (with a tank brush)
- lighter drybrush of Boltgun Metal (with a tank brush)
- heavy wash of Badab Black
- patchy wash of Thraka Green (ie. only put it in random patches)
- heavy wash of Devlan Mud
- pick out the edges with Mithril Silver

@ CMDante - always pushing me ; ) I'm working with a friend on a couple of other projects and we might work on a clear resin bubble for the next one or two. I'd love to insert an already painted servitor wired into the best into a clear resin mold of the underbelly, that would be cool.

@ BrotherStynier - The next task is to get some of the armored elements done (the STeG4s, AT-70s, AT-83s, N-20 halftracks) but I'm keen to do a Usurper (originally in Honor Guard I think) as well, and the friend I mentioned above is working on a Locust, the little vector fighters mentioned briefly in Sabbat Martyr. Is Khrel Kas Obarkon from Double Eagle? It has been a while since I read that one.

Cheers

Sorry, I wasn't implying anything wrong with how it currently looks, I was just wondering if you had anything planned using clear resin etc?

We both know you are more than capable of producing something seriously awesome for it, it's just a matter of time required as always .

Had a chance to look over your blog, looking forward to what you have planned for the Steggadon comp. Care to share your thoughts? Will it be 40k or fantasy themed?

There are certainly plenty of parts on that kit that I am eyeing up for use in future conversions. Particularly the throne parts....

Cheers guys.

No offense taken at all Dante, I know I kind of cheaped out on this one for time purposes and also for getting a sense of scale. I do like that you prompt me to go that little bit further in directions that I know will make me happier with the final result, but might have avoided for [insert lame excuse here]. I think thereare a bunch of things that I've learned with this first Stalk Tank that'll mean I can spend less time on them (already figured them out) for the next couple that I'd like to do. That way I can spend some time getting the bubble right (or close to meeting my vision). If you've got some thoughts feel free to send them through.

On the Stegadon Conversion Challenge I'm thinking of a Khorneate Warshrine for Warhammer. A beefy Marauder champion atop the beast, wrestling with the chains that control it, a cage/brazier of skulls, metallic plates, and lots of metal wrapped horns.

An captain.gordino, I humbly accept your Morley and it will have pride of place on my mantle.

Cheers
